A Poetry Lesson

Notes:

Prompt 6. Poetic License. A character writes poetry (doesn't have to be good poetry).

Work Text:

Rosie didn't often think about her mother. She had Daddy and Sherlock for parents, and Mrs. Hudson as a grandmother right downstairs, and Aunt Molly and Uncle Greg and Uncle Mycroft in London and two more grandparents out in the country, so that was plenty of family to go along with. Unless she could talk her Daddy into letting her get a dog. She would definitely like another family member, if it could be a dog.

But one day she had a poetry lesson in school. It was the week before Mothering Sunday, so most of the kids were writing poems for their mummies. Rosie was staring at her paper, trying to figure out what kind of a poem her Daddy would like, when her Allison asked “Why don't you write one for your mother, too?”

So Rosie wrote:
“Dad says you're in heaven.
But that's so high above me.
Next time stay down here.
So you can love me.”
