Summary
The plane crashes and Wei Ying is suddenly forced into trying to survive and keep a child breathing too. He thought that would be the most difficult part of the ordeal. He never expected that once he met the father of the child that he'd be draw so strongly to him that he would find it unbearable to go back to his old life, but this kind of love isn't for him. He didn't deserve devotion from someone like Lan Zhan, right?
- Wei Ying and Lan Sizhui get in a plane crash. The only two survivors, Wei Ying sets out to get them back to civilization and return Lan Sizhui to his father.
Epilogue added! B/c I wanted some fluff and smut halloween wangxian.

The boy climbing over the wall is clearly, straightforwardly breaking the rules, even before Lan Wangji sees the jars of alcohol he carries. When caught, though, he laughs — and for a moment, Lan Wangji can do nothing but stare, because despite the vague sense of disconnection that has lingered all day, here is someone fully, entirely real.
Oh, he thinks, and the sense of loss that has been weighing him down begins to lift.
Lan Wangji has his regrets about things he did and did not do, and he tried not only to do better when he got another chance, but to become someone who would not have made what he considers to be his original mistakes with the information he had at the time. So did he succeed?
(The answer given here is ‘Yes, and this can be contrived to plausibly make things better rather than worse.’)

Heart pounding in his ears, he took the first step into the chilly water. His boot, not waterproof, instantly soaked through. Another step in and he was already chilled to the bone. He chanced a glance back towards the house, and his heart stuttered when he saw the distant glow of what looked like a fire. Smoke lighter than the blackness of the sky was rising steadily into the air. Something was burning.
His heart jolted and he stuttered a couple more steps forward. Water sloshed around his ankles now, and waves pushed up to his knees. The water was frigid.
It was now or never. He waded out until he was chest deep, felt the constricting pinch of cold water as his bare arms dipped in, and then he began to swim.
