“In the firehouse,” Tommy interjects.
“Well, yeah, that is where we work?”
“No, no…” The wickedness in Tommy’s voice has Buck peeling his arm away from his face. Tommy’s grin is devilish. “He can write you up when you’re on the clock. At work. He can’t do anything if it’s out in public."
And thus, a plan is born.

“What? Did you want to go out with her granddaughter and make lovely babies with her?” deadpans Eddie, air-quoting.

“Excuse me, are you Buck?” A tentative voice calls out from his left, cutting off whatever it is that Bobby had just been about to say. He turns to see a woman walking over, smiling at him like she’s greeting an old friend.
“I’m.. uh, yes?” He replies, ears still ringing with the words exhausting and suck it up and bail me out of jail.
Her answering grin is delighted and Buck can’t remember the last time someone was so happy to see him.

Summary
Robbie “Buck” Nash Jr. is living the life. He’s a firefighter working under his dad, he loves his life in LA, and there’s something brewing between him and the hot new firefighter. Plus, his dad and Chimney are having whirlwind romances of their own. It’s all great, except… he’s still living in his ex(?) girlfriend’s apartment, the new firefighter’s wife is dragging her heels on their divorce, and oh, his dad may be lying about everything that happened twenty-two years ago which led to Buck’s adoption.
It seems like every week, their firehouse is responding to yet another kidnapping, and the feeling that his dad is keeping secrets grows. From missing documents to laced brownies to nosy reporters and even little black books, the evidence mounts and finally forces Buck to decide: pull on the thread and make his whole world unravel, or continue to stitch everything back together and give up ever knowing the truth.
Buck pulls on the thread.

“Sure, I love the zoo.” Chris is saying with that perfectly adorable giggle that makes Eddie want to melt whenever he hears it—which is far too infrequently these days. “My dad takes me there all the time.”
Eddie’s head snaps up at that, quick and sharp. His fingers go numb and he scrambles uselessly with the tongs as they fall with a loud clatter against the grill.
Because Eddie can count the times he’s been to the zoo on one hand.
It’s Buck who’s been taking Christopher there nearly once a week for years.

“Do you think if Chris ever has a sibling, they’d get up to trouble like this?” Buck asks Eddie, standing shoulder to shoulder with him and watching the scene unfold.
“God, I hope not,” answers Eddie. “I wouldn't have the patience for this.”
“I’d probably help them scheme together,” admits Buck.
Eddie raises a brow. “Against me?”
Buck simply smirks and winks in response, patting his shoulder softly before skipping away to see if Bobby needs him for anything else, ever the overachiever.

Summary
Because Buck thinks he could build something with Tommy. He could love Tommy, if he put his mind to it. Tommy is fun, and serious, and competent and good at his job and he is really good in bed and with his mouth. He could love him.
He could. And maybe he even would, if he didn’t already –
He screeches to a halt at the next red light, almost missing it as the images race through his mind. An image of Buck himself digging through the mud, calling and calling the name of a man buried beneath feet of dirt, the name of a man that couldn’t hear him. He feels his heart breaking as Bobby grabs him, as Buck sobs into the sky.
Buck blinks and realizes that he could love Tommy, if he didn't already love Eddie.

Summary
Eddie has not stopped talking since they left the restaurant. He thinks that he kind of blacked out during the actual dinner, because he’s not really sure what actually was discussed or how they even ended up sitting next to Buck and Tommy. But as soon as they got back into the truck, it was like the dam breaking loose.
“I mean, it’s so great,” Eddie says once they’re back in his bedroom, as he takes his shirt off in the closet. He’s not even paying attention as Marisol perches on the edge of his bed. “They’re two of my friends, it’s awesome.”
He’s happy for Buck, because Buck deserves to be with someone who gets him and will love him like he deserves. He just . . .
“Is Tommy too tall for him?” Eddie asks. “Like, they’re the same height.”

“What’s this?” asks Buck, picking up a pamphlet from the loft’s kitchen counter.
“I’m pretty sure you can read, Buck,” answers Chim, popping his gum. Usually, Buck wouldn’t be irritated by that, but Chim’s the interim captain due to Bobby’s cruise, and everything gets on his nerves.
“I can read,” Buck huffs. “I’m just confused. How does this work?”
He looks down at the pamphlet again. The deep red letters that say, are you a first responder looking for a buddy who understands your woes? — Fireapp’s got you covered!

Hen paused, for seconds that almost dragged into a minute. “You know,” she started softly, “We’ve all been going through it the past couple of years. And now, that things are settling down – there’s, –” Hen hesitated, looking for the word, “a void.”
