Work Text:
It was always like clockwork for him. Same time in the morning rush hour, same black coffee order. The tall, fair-haired stranger with the bookish good looks and crisp clothes. Vex’ahlia looked eagerly at the clock, counting down the seconds until he arrived.
In all honesty, she would’ve been lying if she said she didn’t have a bit of a crush on him. She just hoped she wasn’t as obvious as her brother claimed she was.
“You’re staring again”.
Vax snickered as he walked over to her side of counter, still finishing off the remains of his coffee before the rush. It seemed like a bad idea at first, but a brother-sister coffee business turned a pretty penny.
Vex laughed in response to his teasing, leaning against her desk.
“It’s not staring….he’s just not here at the exact time he usually is.”
Vax rolled his eyes in her faux attempts to dodge his teasing.
“Oh, so you’re keeping tabs on him now? Didn’t think that was a thing for couples, or whatever you call yourselves nowadays.”
Vex only laughed harder as she shoved into her friend’s shoulder. Just then, the one she was anticipating briskly walk through the door. Only a man such as tall and elegant as he could make flushed and flustered still sexy in the early hours of the morning. Vex noticed Percy coming in and made her way behind the counter.
“Well someone’s in a bit of a rush this morning.”
Percival de Rolo III, heir to his father’s conglomerate businesses and corporations and a polyglot like his mother, let out one of his most undignified laughs. Any other occurrence, he would have been embarrassed of his laugh, but seeing the reaction upon the young woman’s face made him think otherwise. Was it just the adrenaline kicking it, or was his heart beating faster than normal?
Vex quickly prepared his coffee, before handing the sleeved cup to him. “Well, don’t worry about that too much this morning. Lucky you have me to run and look out for your life now. Go ahead and take this for today, on the house.” Percy smiled softly at her kind gesture, a light blush coming across his cheeks.
“Thank you…Ms?.”
“Oh, it’s just Vex, only Vex here.”
Percy took one of her hands into his, a gentle shake goodbye before he departed.
“Goodbye, Vex. May your day be well.”
As he pulled away and made his way towards the exit, Vex noticed something in her hand.
A small, folded piece of paper wedged between her fingers. Confused at the gesture, she unfolded the piece to some of the most visually pleasing calligraphy she had seen with a phone number written at the bottom.
“I’ve noticed you for quite a while now since I’ve visited, and want to get to know you better. Would you want to go to dinner sometime?”
Smiling deeply at his gesture, Vex perked her head up at Vax’s amused laughter.
“Well, it seems that he finally made his move.”
