Work Text:
Yelena,
Where have you gone? It"s been months since the last you wrote me back. From the moment you walked into my life, I knew it would never be the same. Natasha told me I should stay away from you, but I think she cared more for you than me. She always did love you as a sister. I miss her too.
She was wrong about me staying away from you, though. How was Natasha to know that you would be the person to make my life finally have meaning? Without you here, I wander without purpose. Your laugh, smile, wit and sense of humour made my heart soar, and now that is all gone.
I hope you will come home or write back, so I know you are alive.
Please, Yelena. I can"t go another month without hearing from you.
-Draco
Draco,
The past few months have been chaotic. I"ve moved from city to city, country to country, trying to fix my mistakes. I"ve done some horrible things in my life, and as Natasha would say, my ledger is filled with red. I"m trying to clear it up, but I do not feel that is possible. Day after day, I find it harder to look at myself in the mirror.
I"ve hurt too many people and am scared to hurt you. I think we both know that I am not the one for you. I know you care for me, but I can"t be there for you how you wish. It"s time for us to accept that. How can you even bear to look at me after everything I have done?
Please, forget me.
-Yelena
Yelena,
Receiving your letter was the highlight of my day. I"m thankful to learn that you are alive and well, but you speak so poorly of yourself that my heart breaks. Do you not understand just how wonderful you are? How do you not see it?
I, too, have done some horrible things in my past. You"re not alone in this. So long as we try to make up for what we"ve done, we can clear the red from our ledgers. If you come back to me, to the life we began, I promise you will understand. I can help you, just as you helped me to see that life was worth living.
After everything you"ve done, I still love you.
With everything I am.
-Draco
Thunder sounded as the rain continued to pour down outside. Draco stood staring into his fireplace, not seeing the flames as he was lost in thought. How long had it been since he sent his last letter to Yelena? Just days? It felt like months…
Sipping his whiskey tumbler, Draco worried that Yelena had been serious when she said to forget her. But if so, would she even bother to reply? Was that single letter from her all that he would have left to remember her aside from the memories and echoes of her laughter that still haunted his dreams?
After another clap of thunder, there was a knocking at the front doors. Draco turned away from the fireplace, frowning. He set the nearly empty glass on the mantle and left his study to answer the door. The rain and wind thrashed against the side of the Manor, and Draco wondered who the hell would be out in this storm. He threw open the door and felt the world shift.
"Yelena," Draco breathed, staring at the woman he never thought he"d see again. "You"re here…."
"I love you too, Draco," Yelena said as a greeting. She brushed her sodden blonde hair from her face. "With everything I am."
A smile broke out on Draco"s pale face, and he tugged her into the warmth of the Manor. As the door shut, the couple kissed, and the past few months were all forgotten. With Yelena home, Draco was whole, and they could start their future together.
