“Meet me in the meadow.”
Lily looked at the letter in her hand and smiled. When she had seen Xeno’s owl approaching, she had secretly hoped it would be a message for them to meet.
The meadow was a few blocks from her house, and it was their usual meeting place. It was where they had met for the first time - she had stumbled upon him practising magic and fell instantly in love with the older, handsome wizard.
Over the years they stayed in touch during their school years, although they never interacted at Hogwarts.
“I’m heading out for a bit,” Lily shouted to her Mum before slipping out to the door. Humming to herself, she quickly made her way to the meadow.
Once there, she looked around but didn’t see Xeno anywhere. Letting out a deep breath, she let herself fall back into the grass, a happy sigh escaping her lips. Looking up at the sky, she enjoyed the sight of the fluffy clouds against the blue sky. It was the perfect little escape from the war, James and Severus fighting, the stress of O.W.L.S. coming up, etc.
“There’s my firebird,” a deep voice murmured.
Sitting upright, she looked and found Xenophilius before her. “Hi,” she greeted him with a smile.
He moved closer and sat down next to her. “I’ve missed you.”
“I missed you too,” Lily admitted. Reaching out, she placed her hand on top of his. He wasted no time in lacing their fingers together.
Peering up at Xenophilius, she pressed her lips together. “Were you able to get out of your arranged marr-”
“No,” he cut her off abruptly. He looked at her and squeezed her hand. “I’m sorry, Lily, but I’d rather not talk about that right now.”
Lily nodded, a tear slipping from her eye. She knew there was no way the two of them would be together. He was arranged to marry Pandora, and Lily knew that she’d likely marry James, despite how much she didn’t want to.
“Let’s just lay here, okay?” Xeno said after a moment. He leant back, pulling Lily with him so that she was snuggled against his side. He pressed a kiss to her forehead before a tired sigh escaped his lips.
Lily closed her eyes, enjoying the feel of Xenophilius against her. She knew they likely only had a few stolen moments left, so for now; she’d enjoy the peace with him in their meadow.
