Work Text:

After it was discovered the island was twice as big as it first seemed, many of its inhabitants took to exploring the great unknown. The island had become a home to most of the islanders. Even if they didn't choose to come, they came to terms of it. However most of the land had been explored mapped out. All of a sudden there was more to explore once again. New buildings and dungeons ready to explore.

Roier had decided to take Pepito with him as he adventured through the new areas. Specifically the two had entered a dungeon to search for hidden treasures. At first Roier wasn't sure about it, while his dungeon diving is sparce now adays, he didn't want to Pepito in a dungeon. The kid couldn't always hear when the man called. Pepito had trouble just in a dusty library yet alone a cobweb filled dungeon. Not to mention the hoards of monsters. Yet the man's son was determined to face the dudgeon and be strong like those he looks up to. With hesitation Roier gave in despite his gut telling him not to. They had made it through about half the floating castle when Pepito ran ahead into a treasure room. The small kid struggled for a moment before prying the old chest open. Peering in Pepito almost fell in as the child's hands grabbed at blocks of shimmering diamond.

"You can't just run ahead when you feel like it! I told you to stay behind me! What if if was trapped!" Roier snapped at his son. He yanked the young water dragon away from the treasure chest. The spider hybrids arms were tense as he looked to the boy.

Pepito had tears pouring down as the kid shakenly looked to Roier. "I didn't mean to Apa. Pepito messed up and was dumb again." The young dragon apologized.

"You little," Roier groaned as he picked his son up into his arms, "Just try to stay by me dungeons are dangerous Pepito." Sorrow glinted off of the man's eyes with a hint of guilt.

"Okay Apa I find treasure!" Pepito happily exclaimed holding up a gold block happily. The small one's tears had faded away. A dungeon adventure with Apa what more could the child ask for, it was an exciting day.

"Nice find kid." Roier chuckled at his child. His fingers ruffling the dragon hybrids hair causing more laughter to resonate through the room. "Lets go find more shinny treasures." He spoke gently setting his son down.

"We show it to Richas and Abuela!" Pepito cheered leaning forward onto his toes bouncing up and down. A smile spread a crossed the kids mouth beaming with happiness. Pepito was almost always happy even when he really shouldn't be.

Deeper in the dungeon they ran into a few zombies, that was nothing even if they had some armor. Zombies were one of the most basic monsters they could run into. Roier smiled as the saw Pepito kill one of the creatures with a sword. Maybe the kid had some strength and skill. With a sigh of relief Roier swung is sword down on a nearby zombie.

"I think I see a chest over by those bookshelves lets go check it out." Roier spoke up. He saw his kid nod running off happily towards the shelf. The spider hybrid had the sword loosely at his side, assuming the room was clear. Thats when he saw something out of the corner of his eyes glinting in the torch light. Something felt off something felt wrong. "Bo- Pepito look out!" He screamed rushing over.

Pepito was trying to open the chest as Apa's words rang loudly through the air. Roier grabbed him pulling the dragon hybrid behind him. The man winced as he took a hit, a zombie clawing harshly at his arm.

"I got you just stay close looks like we just missed a few. Should only take a second nothing to worry." Roier tried to calm himself down along with his son. Twisting his wrist quickly with a fast raise of his arm he sliced the baby zombie in two. That's when the footsteps echoed followed by childish groans of agony. "There is a baby spawner!?" Roier yelped.

Pepito struggled to hold the sword right as fear rushed through the air. Apa needed Pepito there was no running no matter how scary things got. Together they could get through anything. Pepito smiled he always had hope even when other's would say their prayers. Striking forward Pepito managed to knock one of the monsters to the ground. "Apa look! Apa?" Pepito smiled turning to find Roier.

Roier was trying to mine the spawner to disable it, knowing if he didn't the swarms would never end. He could fell claws and teeth crack into his armor. So many were spawned already, he had to destroy the spawner. Roier could take these hits he was full kitted out he could do this.

'Shink!' A diamond sword pierced through a crack in the armor sliding in-between a pair of ribs. Roier bit his lip trying not to scream infront of his son. Of course the monsters had the same tools he had. How could he be so stupid and forget something so simple? It didn't matter ignoring the pain pushing through he finally broke the spawner. Right as another sword struck him, this time it plunge into his thigh.

"Pepito run!" Roier screamed in desperation as he fell to the ground slowly looing consciousness. The device on his wrist glowed as an energy shield surrounded him keeping him stabilized. The federation was determined to keep the islanders alive. Their kids were never given this luxury of safety, death was always a risk for them.

Pepito felt a racing heart as Roier fell to the ground unconscious. The monsters slashed at the spider hybrid before quickly realizing they couldn't touch him. They all slowly turned to look at the young dragon. Pepito's hands were shaking fear consuming every inch of the kid's body. However the dragon hybrid could not runaway leaving his father behind. All Pepito had to do was press the button on the wrist device and Apa would get up again.

The child ran forward sword forward trying to get to Roier. A small zombie immediately slashed at the child's chest chipping the armor. Pepito was knocked back hitting a wall hard, blood coughed up landing against armor. The dragon hybrid wasn't smart so Pepito got up refusing to stay down. Running to Roier with the same plan as last time.

'Shink!' A diamond sword went through the small hybrid's shoulder. Screams escaped out as tears fell to the floor. Pepito felt incredibly weak as eyes slowly started to close. The child used all their strength to keep them open. Too weak to eat or take a healing potion, however if hit one more time Pepito would die.

"...Sorry...Apa..." Pepito mumbled as the monster ran at him. This was it all alone unable to be helpful to Apa. Pepito really was dumb and the weakest out of the dragon kids.

Someone appeared flickering barely visible standing in front of Pepito. His hors were a dark blue and black peaking out of messy brown hair. Vibrant blue and purple wings matched the boys scaley tail. Wearing a pair of overalls he held a sword in his hands. "Stand away from my brother." Was all the figure said.

With ease Bobby raised the sword blocking the swing of three baby zombies. Keeping a protective stance in front of Pepito he refused to back down. Slicing down on the first he pivoted stabbing the second straight through the stomach.

Pepito just stood back slowly recovering strength. The child didn't know who this stranger was though Pepito has seen him before. He looked so familiar, he even look a little like Pepito.

Bobby grew annoyed by these monsters as he looked over the room seeing there was still almost a dozen. Putting away his sword the dragon hybrid exchanged it for a gun. He mowed down those zombies in seconds like it was nothing.

After he checked around making sure the room was cleared, for real this time, Bobby ran over to his little brother. "Try not to get yourself killed." He spoke slightly softer than he usually would. A smile was a crossed his face as he ruffled Pepito's hair. He knew he wouldn't have the strength for something like this for a while, but that didn't matter, his baby brother was safe.

Roier slowly woke up with a groan still in pain despite his wounds all scabbing over. He looked down seeing his son at his side. "Pepito? Pepito you are alive!?" He cried pulling the boy close to his chest. The spider hybrid just held the kid there for a moments in silent.

"How are you alive?" He asked finally breaking the silence. He was beyond glad his son was safe, however the odds were not in their favor. With his luck he was sure that he messed up. That he was gonna loose a son to a dungeon once again.

"A guardian angel saved Pepito." The child nodded as both slowly got up to their feet. Pepito ran to the chest happily pulling out treasures placing them in his inventory.

"A guardian angel?" Roier asked as he laughed softly to himself. Of course a kid would come up with something like that. Probably was some kind of imaginary friend. Pepito named the kid's own stuffed animals as if they were people already.

"Brother Guardian angel saved Pepito, he had overalls." The child nodded running back and hugging Roier.

"...Bobby..."
