And, oh.
Langa’s falling in love with Reki. Reki, his snowboarding instructing partner, his partner who speaks his home language and picks him up for work every morning and wears his clothes, his partner who laughs louder than anyone Langa’s ever met, who gives the best hugs, who always says Langa’s name like he can’t keep a smile out of his voice. Langa’s falling in love with Reki, and he swallows again, because everything makes sense now. The sweaty hands, the urge to run his fingers through Reki’s snow-damp hair, the warm feeling spreading through his heart whenever Reki wears his scarf, and Langa can feel his heart stumbling in his chest because oh, he’s — he’s in trouble.
(langa and reki meet as snowboarding co-instructors and tumble into love over clothes sharing, cuddling, and — after a little pining — accidentally getting caught in the snow <3)

Summary
He was man enough to admit he had a crush. Of course he did—Langa was absolutely, miserably, catastrophically head-over-heels for his best friend, and it was hell. He should have been content with being Reki’s friend, but then friends didn’t think about how soft their friend's lips might be, or what sounds they’d make if they kissed.
Shit. Langa groaned and buried his face in his pillow.
He couldn’t tell Reki. God, he didn’t even know if Reki liked men. To be fair, Reki didn’t know Langa liked men, either. Langa’s Mum had told him Japan was more conservative than Canada, which was why he hadn’t come out to anybody yet. If he did, would Reki come out to him, too? His chest tightened.
This was the crux of the issue. How could he tell if Reki swung his way?
Reki is Langa's happiness. He knows this, and he's fine with it. Really. Until, of course, he's not fine, and he finds himself Googling 'how to tell if someone is gay'.

Reki was so, so beautiful. His shoulders were broad and muscular, with freckles dancing down his spine. He seemed so smooth, so soft, and Langa drifted away thinking of trailing his hands across those freckles, touching his skin that always radiated warmth. “Oh, no, I’m definitely mad at you.” Reki nudged Langa’s shoulder. “I don’t care about you not telling me you’re gay, but I sure as hell do care that you didn’t tell me about this guy! You mean to tell me you’re in love with some dude, got in a fight with him, didn’t talk for a while, were suffering like crazy, and didn’t think to let me know? I could have been there for you, Langa!”
At this, Langa began to laugh. He gazed at Reki, his eyes glowing amber in the room’s dim lighting. “Reki, are you serious?”

Summary
“You want to date me?” Kojiro can’t hide his blatantly horrified expression. “That’s… nice, but—”
“No, no! Not you. Reki! I want to ask Reki out,” Langa blurts out at a volume that garners more than a few stares. His face goes up in flames, and he immediately smacks his head on the tabletop, attempting to hide. Poor kid.
“What does that have to do with me?”
“Every time I see you at S, you’re with a different person,” he mumbles, his voice muffled by the self-imposed prison of his arms. Finally, he looks up, eyes nauseatingly earnest. “I just… I want one person. How do I do that?”

Reki tries to teach Langa how to ride a bike. It...doesn't go well.
“I’ll teach you,” Reki said. “How to ride a bike. I taught you how to skateboard! And it’ll be good practice for my sisters. ‘Cause I’m sure you’ll be much easier to teach. You know how to balance.”
“Teach…me,” Langa repeated, slowly, as the thought took hold. “Okay. I want to learn.”
“Sweet!” Reki lightly punched his shoulder. “This will be a piece of cake. You’re gonna be in the Turtle France before you know it!”
“The…you mean the Tour de France?” -

Summary
Learning a language for your bro was totally a reasonable thing to do, Reki decided. A best bro. A bro who you wanted to spend the rest of your life with. A bro who you would follow across the universe. A bro who you loved so much, as a friend, that you genuinely couldn’t imagine your life without them at your side.

It's almost time to graduate, and neither Reki nor Langa have any concrete plans for their first foray into adulthood. But they'll have to decide what to do eventually--whether it's going to university, finding a full-time job, or trying to make skating a lucrative past-time. There is only one sure thing: Reki wants his future to include Langa no matter what, even if that means following him halfway across the world.
Sure, Reki's aware that learning English won't guarantee that he and Langa spend the rest of their lives together, but he figures it'll at least give him a fighting chance.
Strangely enough, he's right.

Summary
It's been a year since Prince Langa smiled. The queen offers a reward to anyone who can fix that. Reki would give it a try, but he's pretty sure being the one who broke the prince's heart disqualifies him.
“You’ve been quiet. Are you jealous?”
Reki lurches up. “Jealous of what?”
Miya’s brow angles impossibly higher. “Of all the attention the prince is getting?”
Right, of course. That’s what anyone would be jealous over. “I just don’t believe it. Prince Langa isn’t…” he waves one hand, frowning, “...like that.”
“Ha,” Miya crows. “Like you’d know.”
But he does. And Reki thinks: I could do it. I could make him smile. I’ve done it before.

Summary
The snow is beginning to fall again, in slow drifts, and the flurries melt when they kiss the glass, and it’s magical in a way Reki never imagined anything could be. He glances over at Langa, whose face is close enough that Reki can see the faded scarring on his cheeks, his pale lips with the cupid’s bow in the center that Reki has wanted, for so long, to kiss.
Langa has always been beautiful, but he looks the most beautiful to Reki when he has that wonder in his eyes, usually at S, and occasionally in the dusky sunset at DopeSketch or on the half-pipe at the skatepark. The way he looks up at the mountains makes Reki’s throat go dry.
He wants Langa to look at him that way.

Summary
Langa hit the ground. Hard.
“You okay?” Reki ran over to him.
“Yeah,” Langa said, rubbing his hip. “I’m…” not fine at all “…fine.”
“Are you sure?” Reki peered into his face, concerned. He held out a hand to help him up. “You’ve been kind of out of it all day.”
“Yeah,” Langa answered, looking at Reki’s hand but not taking it. Instead he pushed himself up to standing and ran a hand through his hair, which just fell right back in his face. “I…I’m sorry, Reki, I think I’m gonna head home.”
“Huh?” Reki asked, startled. “O-okay—”
“Sorry, Reki,” Langa said again. “I’ll see you tomorrow,” he said over his shoulder.
“Okay,” Reki said quietly, not knowing what else to say.
Or: Reki wants to help Langa, Joe wants to help Reki, and Cherry wants to help Joe (but won't admit it).
And Miya's just along for the ride.

Summary
There were two universal truths for college students that Langa had come to realize during his first semester: ‘8 AMs’ were a product of Satan himself and coffee (or any other form of caffeine, really) was man’s true best friend.
So it came as no surprise that he stopped by the coffee shop every Monday morning before class and when he needed a pick-me-up. Whether the mood boost was due to the caffeine or the barista who was like sunshine incarnate and always spelled his name wrong on his cup, that was becoming harder to tell with every visit.
Or, in an attempt to flirt, barista Reki spells Langa's name on his drinks in the most ridiculous ways possible, and it goes completely over Langa's head.

The florist crossed his arms. "So what brings you here today? Wait." He narrowed his eyes in suspicion. "Are you gonna ask me again to babysit you? Because I'll be busy this weekend-"
Langa waved his arms wildly in defense, looking a little flustered. "No, it's not that. I-" A blush colored his pale cheeks, and really, if someone can tell Hiromi what's going on, he'd appreciate it-"

“I just don’t care much about dating.”

“No.”
“Okay, well, have you ever... liked anyone?”
