    Summary

Since my last summary on how to create asynchronous polyphonic multivoice filk, I have gained quite a bit of experience, so this is my attempt at summarising my experiences of editing all in all 150 voices together in 4 different projects so far.

I use Audacity for my endeavours but most of the things I wrote apply for most audio editing platforms.

    I hope this helps.

This guide is aimed at beginners with the intention of trying to break down the process so it is less overwhelming. It is, as all guides are, highly biased to what worked for me when I was starting out. If you find it doesn't work for you, I absolutely recommend trying out one of the many different guides out there!

My number one recommendation is: just go for it! Things are less complicated than you think. There are a hundred of extra bells and whistles you can start adding on once you're ready, but try and keep it dead simple for your first one.

    Summary

In general there are several different file export options you'll see used. Both by audacity or whatever device you're using to record with (especially your phone). Some of them will be easier to control than others. What I'll mostly be focusing on is audacity because that's the one that provides by far the most number of options.

How you choose to export your podfic can have a big impact on quality (if done improperly) or the size of the file you're asking people to download.

A repost of my 2012 meta, originally written on Dreamwidth for the "Feedback" day of Pod-Aware 2012.

I kept thinking about this and starting lists of all the things I like in feedback, but then I realized they all came back to the same idea: Tell me you liked my SKILLS.

There are two ways I can think of to do that: distinguishing my reading from the writing, and distinguishing my skills from my body.

Hooray! You've made a podfic! But now, how do you share it? Posting to tumblr, youtube, or a fandom-specific community are all decent options. But chances are, if the fic you recorded is from AO3, you'll reach the largest and most receptive audience by also posting to AO3.

The archive welcomes all types of fanwork, but is structured and built primarily for written works. Posting podfic can be confusing or complicated if you're unfamiliar with it. This guide will cover both the basic mechanics of posting podfic to AO3, as well as the typical conventions used by the podfic community to help your audio be found by people who want to listen.
