Chapter Text
Vaggie forgot how fast it is to travel with wings. Before she knew it Lucifer was appearing from the woods, not prepared to face him. Vaggie stood up, shivering while doing so and still not looking at him, because how could she? After lying to his precious daughter, something he holds really close to his heart.
Vaggie felt something touch her shoulder, tilting her head she saw Lucifer holding his jacket up to her. “You’re drenching, kid.” Vaggie looked at Lucifer, only seeing concern written on his face. Vaggie opened her mouth to protest, but Lucifer beat her to it. “Please, just take the jacket, the way back to my house is going to be freezing cold.
And with that Vaggie found herself in a little too tight jacket, in the sky with harsh pouring rain. It was a while ago since Vaggie could see the city from above, but this time it wasn’t with all that chaos and murder. It was quiet, if you chose to ignore the loud bolts of thunder and the harsh rain but otherwise it was quiet, no words spoken anymore.
It didn’t take long for them to arrive at a big mansion, it was probably Lucifer’s, being the big boss of hell and when they entered it, Vaggie asked again, “Sir, I need you to send me back, I need to make it right,” Lucifer interrupted her “Look, I don’t know what happened up there, and we will talk about it, but first freshen up, I don’t want you getting sick, kid.”
Vaggie shook her head, “Please, I don’t have time, they’re going to the hotel first at extermination day, I need to try and make them change their minds.” Lucifer’s expression darkened, “Wait, what? How dare they threaten,” Lucifer stopped for a second, “Why are you so.. desperate on settling it on your own?”
Vaggie felt her breath hitch, thinking if this was the right decision, to tell the king of hell that she stabbed his daughter in the back, twisting it by running away like a coward for not being able to handle the harsh words from her.
“Vaggie?” Charlie’s dad reached up to touch her, but Vaggie moved away, she didn’t deserve any comfort, not after the shit she did.
“I need to make it right, I need to make it up with them, with your daughter,” Vaggie said, her voice wavering “I’ve lied to Charlie at the moment I met her, lied about what kind of monster I am.”
Lucifer just stared at her confused before responding, “About what?”
Vaggie looked away, “I’m an angel.”
…
“Yeah, I know.”
Vaggie’s head shot up and saw Lucifer staring at her, confused. “I can tell when someone is from heaven, I was there too you know?”
Huh, she never thought of that.
Lucifer sighs, and starts walking motioning to Vaggie to follow him. Lucifer goes into a room, what seems like a kitchen and grabs two cups. “Grab a seat, dear.” And Vaggie listens.
“I take it you never told them? About being an angel?” Yet again Vaggie didn’t respond, something she noticed she’s being doing a lot today. Lucifer continued, meanwhile grabbing an empty kettle and filling it up with water. “How did they find out?”
“Adam.. He told Charlie. Everyone was watching and then we got sent back. Things got heated and I ended up breaking down and told them the t-truth,” Vaggie explained, starting to stutter, “I lied to them, I m-murdered their kind, y-your people.. How c-can I face them? I really w-wanted to do better, I wanted to f-forget what I did and restart.. I wanted to tell Charlie but.. seems like I was too late for it.”
Lucifer turned around with two cups, placing one in front of her and turned back to grab the kettle, now steaming. “You know, I never really thought that people in hell could redeem themselves.” He pours hot water in the empty cups, and then grabs two tea bags. “But the fact that an exterminator has changed, deciding that she’d rather act like she’s a sinner then go around and kill souls, as if they weren’t already being punished, has really made me see something in that hotel.” Lucifer told her as he handed her a tea bag.
“Kiddo, the hotel is made for people to change, it’s made for every soul to change. People can be angry, of course but you have to face them, I’m sure they’ll forgive you.” Lucifer smiled at her, lifting up his cup. “After all, you still are the same person, and definitely the same sweetheart my daughter fell in love with, angel or not.”
Vaggie felt her eye burn and looked down, rubbing her eye. She didn’t deserve this kindness, but the kind words made her feel a little better. Lucifer eventually walked closer to Vaggie and hugged her, “Everyone deserves forgiveness, if only you could believe that.” And with that Vaggie started crying.
After a tiny heart to heart with Charlie’s father, and a warming cup of tea, Lucifer sent her to the bathroom, scolding that she’s going to get sick and stuff. Vaggie took a long shower, reflecting about everything, finally getting back to her senses. Lucifer was right, Charlie would forgive her knowing her tall sunshine, but the problem was just that she didn’t deserve it. She can’t just turn back to the hotel and face her, she has to do something for forgiveness.
Vaggie was taken away from her thought by the knocking on the bathroom door, followed by a voice she wasn’t mentally prepared to hear. “Vaggie? I brought some of your clothes, I’ll be waiting for you so we can go back.” Charlie said, and from shock by not expecting that she would see Charlie that quickly, Vaggie slipped, groaning as she hit the wet floor.
“Vaggie? Are you okay?” The voice on the other side of the door said, followed the sound of a door handle. Vaggie carefully stood up, walked slowly to the door, “J-just leave it in front of the door, I’ll pick it up in a few minutes.” It was quiet for a bit, but then Charlie quietly said okay, followed by footsteps that got softer by the seconds. Vaggie opened the door, grabbing the clothes and got back again.
Well fuck, she didn’t expect Lucifer to call Charlie that quickly. Or she didn’t hope that it would be that quick. After completing the shower, as slowly as she could, drying herself, putting the clothes on that have been brought to her, she quietly opened the door, feeling the cool air in the hallway. She hears Lucifer talking and walked quietly towards it, “…Didn’t know that heaven had gotten that low…. Threatening the hot….. and leaving souls to…” Lucifer sounded angry, she walked closer and noticed that Charlie started talking, “Assholes… I’m done with their shit…… start up a war already….” Vaggie burrowed her eyebrow in confusion, not hearing the conversation that clear, and quickly got into the room they were talking in and was met with two Morningstars that looked pissed. Yeah, Vaggie decided that she’ll ask later.
Charlie looked at her, demeanor changing as her horns disappeared and her eyes changed to normal. Lucifer still looked pissed, and he started to walk away, but turned around towards Charlie when he was nearby the door, “I’ll talk to you tomorrow again, you both need rest after today,” then turned towards Vaggie, “Sorry, I just had to after hearing about the threat.” And then walked away.
Now Vaggie was alone with the person she wanted to avoid for a day or two, and started to get nervous because Charlie wasn’t saying anything. Charlie just wandered around, grabbing her red jacket, putting it on. The weather seemed a bit better now, the thundering stopped but it was still raining, but not as bad. “I’m calling us a taxi, I don’t want you getting anymore wet.” Charlie grabbed her phone and started the call and with her other hand she started rummaging in her other pocket, to Vaggie’s surprise a pack of cigarettes appearing out of her pocket.
Charlie quickly arranged the taxi, then slipped a cigarette between her lips and walked out the room, towards the front door, opening it and standing outside before lightening it. Vaggie followed Charlie slowly, and looked at her, “I ah.. didn’t know you smoked.” Vaggie quietly said. Charlie looked at Vaggie, “Only when I have fucked days.” Charlie answered, looking back outside. “Oh, I never smelled it on you. Never told me about it too.”
Charlie snorted, “Yeah, this relationship never really shared stuff, huh? I stopped after I met you, so never really thought about telling you. The topic never came up too.”
Vaggie took a stuttering breath, she deserved that one. “Charlie, I’m really sorry.” Charlie huffed and took a long hit from the cigarette before throwing it away. “Vaggie, we’ll talk this out when we’re back home.”
Vaggie wanted to say more, wanted to apologize, and opened her mouth to do so, but got distracted by the sound of a car honking. “That’s our ride,” she heard Charlie say, walking to the car that’s waiting for them, grabbing the car’s handle, “listen, we’ll talk about it when we’re home, alright?” And for the first time, after the awful meeting in heaven, Charlie had a softer expression on her face.
After saying that Charlie opened the car door for Vaggie to enter, and Vaggie did, with a deep breath, because it’s going to be one hell of a talk when they arrive at home.
