20,494 children in rural Afghanistan received essential school kits to help them attend school regularly and pursue their dreams. Najib*, a principal, noted that this support, along with other improvements, significantly increased attendance. Wais*, an 11-year-old student, shared that having adequate supplies now allows him and his classmates to do homework and participate in class, boosting their confidence and readiness for school. #SavetheChildren #SupportEducation #SchoolKits #ChildrensDreams #IncreasedAttendance
Save the Children in Afghanistan
Non-profit Organizations
Save the Children has been supporting children and families in Afghanistan since 1976.
About us
Save the Children in Afghanistan is working, more than ever, to fulfill its promise to transform the lives of children and families, especially the most vulnerable and marginalized. Since 1976, we have been providing Education, Health and Nutrition, Child Protection, Child Poverty, and Emergency Response support to Afghan children and their families. The past several years have been extremely challenging for the people of Afghanistan. Already suffering from decades of conflict and instability, families are experiencing extreme hunger, repeated disease outbreaks, and the devastating impacts of climate change and drought on a scale the country has never seen before. In 2023, Afghanistan is experiencing one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world. We face new challenges as we look forward to serving even more children. We advocate for positive change in the policies and practices that impact children’s lives to ensure they can survive, learn, and be protected. We work to fulfill Afghan children’s rights and make their voices heard locally, nationally, and globally.

Through Save the Children's assistance, he received cash support that empowered him to start a small business, stabilise his life, and provide hope for the future. Karim said, "I was unable to afford medical care for my children when they were ill or provide them with adequate food. We faced numerous challenges before receiving this cash assistance. Two-year-old Shekib* had serious health issues that weren't improving despite visits to private hospitals. His father, Zarif*, struggled to afford the treatment and had to borrow money. They found help at Save the Children's mobile health team, where Shekib* was diagnosed with severe malnutrition and received medication. He recovered after consistent treatment. Zarif said, "I brought Shekib* to the clinic, where the doctor examined my son and provided him with medicines.
