Save the Children provided AquaTabs and soap to 600 individuals in a rural area of Balkh province, along with training to help them understand proper hygiene practices and diseases caused by contaminated water. The aim is to prevent waterborne diseases, particularly among children, in a community reliant on biologically contaminated water from Kanda. Karim*, a participant, shared: “We now understand that soap and AquaTabs are lifelines. I’m very happy Save the Children provided these along with training on how to use them. We rely on contaminated water from Kanda, and before, we suffered from stomachaches and diarrhoea without knowing the cause. Now we do.” #SavetheChildren #WaterSanitation #CleanWater #HygieneForHealth #WASH #AquaTabs #HealthAndHygiene #SafeWater #ChildHealth

Save the Children in Afghanistan is working, more than ever, to fulfill its promise to transform the lives of children and families, especially the most vulnerable and marginalized. Since 1976, we have been providing Education, Health and Nutrition, Child Protection, Child Poverty, and Emergency Response support to Afghan children and their families. The past several years have been extremely challenging for the people of Afghanistan. Already suffering from decades of conflict and instability, families are experiencing extreme hunger, repeated disease outbreaks, and the devastating impacts of climate change and drought on a scale the country has never seen before. In 2023, Afghanistan is experiencing one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world. We face new challenges as we look forward to serving even more children. We advocate for positive change in the policies and practices that impact children’s lives to ensure they can survive, learn, and be protected. We work to fulfill Afghan children’s rights and make their voices heard locally, nationally, and globally.

Teachers are the cornerstone of education in emergency crisis zones. Our latest research reveals that improving teachers' well-being and fostering a safe home learning environment significantly boost children's literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional learning in #Afghanistan. We urge donors, policymakers, and development agencies to invest in teacher professional development, adequate teaching resources, and safe home environments to secure brighter futures for Afghan children. 🌍 Save the Children Afghanistan was honored to welcome Rolf Dieter Reinhard, the German Chargé d'Affaires a.i., during his recent visit. We showcased our Street-Working Children Integrated Programme, a crucial initiative designed to support vulnerable children and families in Kabul. Through this program, we provide safe learning spaces for children, offering numeracy and literacy classes to help them transition into formal education. We're also empowering caregivers by offering sustainable livelihoods through cash grants, Income Generating Activities (IGAs), and essential business management skills. Our support reaches internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, and vulnerable host communities, improving family well-being and enabling better care for children. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of Afghanistan's most vulnerable. 🌟 Save the Children Deutschland, Save the Children International, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Arshad Malik, Florian Westphal #SavetheChildren #StreetWorkingChildren #Education #livelihoods #IncomeGenerationActivities
