I am so pleased and proud that the #Kuwaiti-#Saudi Railway Project is underway to launch its initial design, as it is set to revolutionize regional connectivity and economic integration. With approval from the Project Management Committee, this high-speed rail link promises to enhance both economic and social ties between the two Gulf nations. The feasibility study covered various aspects, including financial, economic, technical, and social factors. This comprehensive analysis ensures that the project is viable and beneficial for both countries. The railway will span approximately 500 kilometers, starting from the Shaddadiyah area in Kuwait and extending to Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. With high-speed capabilities, the journey is expected to take just one hour and 40 minutes, making it a fast and efficient mode of transport for the 3,300 passengers it aims to serve daily. According to the project plan, it is expected to be completed within four years. It is part of a series of Kuwaiti-Saudi projects aimed at economic integration and strengthening historical relations between the two countries.

RIYADH METRO LINE 7-TENDER RESULT IMMINENT According to MEED (Middle East Business Intelligence), the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) is expected to announce the tender winner for designing and building the next phase of the Riyadh Metro project very soon. MEED previously reported that contractors have formed teams to bid for the project. The consortia, each of which contains a rolling stock supplier, include: 1- Alstom (France), Freysinnet Contracting (local), WeBuild (Italy), FCC (Spain), Nesma (local) 2- Siemens Germany), Samsung C T (South Korea), Acciona (Spain), Alayuni (local) 3- Hitachi Rail (Japan), Daewoo (South Korea), Hyundai E&C (South Korea), Gulermak (Turkiye), Albawani (local) Spanish consulting firms Typsa, Ayesa and US-based Aecom are the design consultants for the Alstom-led consortium. Spain-headquartered Idom, South Korea’s Dowha and Switzerland’s Pini are the designers for the Siemens-led team. US-based Jacobs is the design consultant for the Hitachi Rail-led group. RCRC first issued the request for prequalification notice in October. The initial deadline was 16 October. Line 7 will be executed in 2 phases. The first phase includes constructing a metro line linking Qiddiya Entertainment City, King Abdullah International Gardens, King Salman Park, Misk City, and Diriyah Gate. The line will be about 65 km long, 47 km underground and 19km elevated. It will have 19 stations. Fourteen stations will be built underground and five overground. Phase 2 of Line 7 will connect Diriyah Gate with New Murabba and King Khaled International Airport. In June 2020, a joint venture led by French consultancy firm Systra won the preliminary design contract for the second phase of Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh Metro. NOTES- Riyadh Metro is one of the world’s largest public transport network projects. The scheme’s first phase features six lines with 84 stations. Construction activity on the project slowed in recent years due to disputes over prolongation and the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. RCRC awarded the main construction packages for the scheme on 28 July 2013. The Fast consortium won lines 4, 5 and 6, reportedly valued at $7.82bn. The Bacs consortium was awarded lines 1 and 2 for $9.45bn, while Arriyadh New Mobility secured Line 3 for $5.21bn. US firm Bechtel leads the Bacs consortium. Italian firm Ansaldo STS leads the Arriyadh New Mobility group, and Spanish firm FCC Construccion heads the Fast consortium. AtkinsRealis has delivered programme management and supervision services for the operations and maintenance of the Riyadh Metro scheme. The Saudi Landbridge is a railway line currently under development by the Saudi Railway Company (SAR), which has a length of 950 km (863 miles). The Landbridge Line has been planned to link Jeddah on the Red Sea coast with Riyadh, where it would link up with both the North-South Railway and the lines to Dammam. For freight, the railway will connect Jeddah on the Red Sea coast with the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh, as the existing 450 km line between Riyadh and Dammam will be upgraded, and a second 115 km new line is planned to connect Dammam with Jubail.

🚆 GULF RAILWAY - GCC to launch High-Speed Regional Railway by 2030 The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has announced the launch of a groundbreaking regional railway network that will start operations by December 2030. The Gulf Railway, also known as the GCC Railway, is a new 2,117km railway system that connects all six Gulf Cooperation Council member states in Eastern Arabia. Construction is to get underway, giving Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain their first Rail Lines. Each of the six GCC member states is responsible for implementing the portion of the project within its territory and will construct its own railway lines and branches, stations, and freight terminals. The six countries will share the cost in proportion to the length of each country's rail network. As a result, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia will spend the most on the project, followed by Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain. The GCC Rail is materializing, and significant progress has been made in recent months across the regional railway development sector. Rail projects are becoming investible again as GCC economies seek to unlock a new phase of urban development. Over the past year, improved oil receipts and market fundamentals have supported infrastructure development. The project is estimated to cost US$250 billion. The railway network is expected to enhance GCC connectivity and create economic collaboration and trade opportunities. The number of passengers using the GCC Railway is expected to reach 8 million annually by 2050.
