The below post is regarding entry to the International Astronautical Federation student competition for #IAC2024 managed for the UK by the British Interplanetary Society which for some unfathomable reason has a limit of who counts as a student at an arbitrary age of 28. So not exactly "CALLING ALL STUDENTS" is it! I can see that my challenge is having at least some effect as usually this issue is not directly acknowledged. This time we've got a disclaimer from the BIS that the "global entry requirements have been set by the IAF" which is one way of dealing with this problem I suppose. Although effectively saying it's not our fault doesn't really strike me as an effective response to discrimination. Age is a protected characteristic in line with the Equality Act 2010 I do wonder if that would also be the acceptable response to complaints of arbitrary exclusion of students in terms of race, sexuality, gender, etc... As the BIS clearly believe that it is outside their responsibility and the IAF refuse to engage at all I'll just say Happy BIS Groundhog Day 2024 folks! I look forward to absolutely nothing changing and having this same conversation next year.
⏱ | UK Students - DEADLINE - 5PM TOMORROW!! Submit your abstract by Friday 24 May to bein with a chance of representing the #UnitedKingdom @IAC2024 in Milan 14-18 Oct. 👇 👇 https://lnkd.in/ez54c3xV NB: The Global entry requirements have been set by the International Astronautical Federation.

President Sheikh Mohamed and Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi stood side by side, leading the nation in joyous celebrations as they commemorated UAE Flag Day. The spirit of unity and patriotism filled the air, as they jointly raised the cherished national flag at the historic Qasr Al Hosn in Abu Dhabi. This momentous occasion holds profound significance, for it marks the accession of the late Sheikh Khalifa as President of the UAE in 2004. It symbolizes the enduring legacy of leadership and the unwavering commitment to progress that defines a great nation. As the flag soared high against the backdrop of the capital's iconic palace, it served as a poignant reminder of a shared history, a present unity, and a boundless future. The UAE has always been a land of dreams, where visionary leaders like Sheikh Khalifa have guided the kingdom toward greater prosperity and harmony. It was a special honor to witness the return of Sultan Al Neyadi, a true explorer who had ventured beyond our planet, aboard the International Space Station. His journey was not only a testament to human curiosity but also a reflection of the UAE's relentless pursuit of excellence and ambition. Flag Day is a celebration of the heritage, the values, and collective achievements. It's a day when they come together as one, regardless of backgrounds or beliefs, to reaffirm their commitment to this great nation and the principles it stands for. In the colors of the flag, they find inspiration – the red representing courage, the green for hope, the white for peace, and the black for strength. These are the values that continue to guide them as they navigate the ever-changing landscape of the 21st century. As we join in raising their flag high, let us remember that our greatest strength lies in our unity, our diversity, and our unyielding spirit. Together, we have overcome challenges, scaled new heights, and written our own story of success. The future holds endless possibilities for the UAE, and with leaders like President Sheikh Mohamed at the helm, we can be certain that their journey will be one of prosperity, innovation, and unity. On this UAE Flag Day, let us stand proud and salute the flag that embodies our national identity and the principles they hold dear. It's a symbol of their past, a beacon for our present, and a promise of an even brighter future. #UAEFlagDay #Unity #Patriotism #Leadership #Legacy #Progress #Future #Inspiration
President Sheikh Mohamed and Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi led the celebrations as the nation came together to mark UAE Flag Day. The UAE leader raised the national flag at a ceremony at Qasr Al Hosn in Abu Dhabi alongside the trailblazing explorer, who returned to Earth in September after a six-month mission aboard the International Space Station. Líder com Visão de Futuro | C-Level Estratégico e Presidente | Palestrante e Autor | Profissional de Aviação & Espaço | Defensor de Políticas para a Indústria Aeroespacial
Today I participated in the ICESCO's 3rd International Aerospace Symposium: "Building Tomorrow's Global Workforce" at Istanbul Technical University, Turkey. This was a very important event to build international leadership for the Space Industry with young generation who leaves in 54 Islamic Nations, members of #ICESCO. I have delivered a speach on Space Situational Awareness (SSA) and Space Domain Situational Awareness (SDA) aspects to enhance the Safety & Security of Space-Earth and Space-Space operations: a Path Forward Outer Space Protection. Space is a new world of opportunities with an increasing presence in the daily life of common people worldwide. I brough some strategic aspects related to defense, security, diplomacy, and economic development, including regional and multiregional cooperation opportunities. Everyday life is increasingly dependent on space services, which has led to an exponential increase in operations in the space environment that is just beginning. The safety of these Space-Earth and Space-Space operations depends directly on systems that provide space situational awareness (SSA) to mitigate damage caused by unintentional conjunction among the spacecraft with existing millions of space debris or natural space objects and by severe space weather events. There are many applications already used in different areas and motivate interesting discussions about the space economy, space market, trends, and the space industry, especially regarding the on-orbit collision avoidance support Services, promoting a safer space, supported by SSA and SDA Systems. Military perspective in the space combat domain was also part of the discussion, and the increasing military presence in space was presented. The mentoring will encourage the students to infer alternatives for policies in favor of the growth of space businesses, and the development of local space industries, and provide better conditions for their participation in global chains. The increase in economic activities in space, combined with the use of space assets to increase the defense capacity of countries raised the concern about the aspects related to the security of space operations themselves, and how to combine space capabilities together with the military ones to protect space assets themselves or to enhance defense operations. In this context, the SSA features help to improve Space Domain Awareness (SDA) services, additionally to some aspects such as the need to monitor intentional conjunctions and how to cope with Anti-Satellite Weapons (ASAT), and others. AIMalik, General Director of ICESCO, Mr. Serdar Huseyin Yildirim, President Turkish Space Agency (TUA), Dr Sian Proctor, Astronaut SpaceX Inspiration 4 Mission, Maj. Gen. Gaganyaan, a human space flight mission and one of India's most ambitious space programmes, is all set to become reality with Group Captain Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair,Group Captain Ajith Krishnan, Group Captain Angad Pratap, and Wing Commander Shubhansu Shukla of the Indian Air Force having received their' astronaut wings' on February 27 at Vikram Sarabhai Centre in Thumba, Kerala, from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who rightly described them as the'four forces representing the dreams of 1.4 billion Indians. While the excitement around Gagnayan among Indians demonstrates the growing profile of ISRO( Indian Space Research Organisation), the task of sending humans into the vast unknown and bringing them back safely is more expensive and challenging than Mars and Moon missions. A successful execution of Gaganyaan would not only put India in the company of the US, Russia, and China but also make Indian science and technology more competitive at the highest level. For this dream to materialise, India needs to enhance its spending on research and development while nurturing universities as centres of research and development, for it holds the key to positioning the country as a leader in space research.
