Abu Dhabi has unveiled a new initiative aimed at boosting its gross domestic product by an additional $25 billion by 2045 through a focus on agricultural growth and water security. The Agrifood Growth and Water Abundance Cluster, or AGWA, is designed to attract investments totaling 128 billion dirhams ($34.8 billion) within the same timeframe, as announced by the emirate’s Department of Economic Development on Saturday. The initiative is expected to generate over 60,000 jobs in the city and foster exports exceeding 50 billion dirhams. This will be achieved by employing advanced technologies and concentrating on sectors such as food ingredients and water treatment. The Department of Economic Development emphasized that these efforts are a key component of Abu Dhabi's strategy to diversify its economy and ensure long-term resilience and sustainability. #dubai #agriculture #abudhabi

Qatar Chamber (QC) has revealed the Qatari businessmen' desire to explore the investment opportunities offered by the Sultanate of Oman at the International Horticultural Expo 2023 "Expo 2023 Doha" through the event of 'The Investment and Food Security Week in the Sultanate of Oman'. This came during the participation of QC First Vice-Chairman, Mohamed bin Twar Al Kuwari in the event who affirmed that Oman is one of Qatar's most important trade partners, emphasizing significant developments in trade within the private sector, pointing out that Qatari private sector exports reached QR 4.6 billion by the end of Q3 2023, and the Qatari businessmen are eager to explore investment opportunities in Oman through this event. Abu Dhabi's industrial sector grew by 9.7% YoY to AED 90.8, contributing 8% to the emirate's total GDP and 16% to its non-oil economy. Abu Dhabi's Khalifa Economic Zones (KEZAD) is set to enhance UAE food security by constructing three food processing plants. AED 1 billion ($272 million). These projects, including the region's inaugural starch processing facility and a significant broiler project, will be developed under lease agreements between KEZAD Group and Al Ghurair Food. It is a significant milestone towards Abu Dhabi’s vision of securing a sustainable future and strengthening its position as a leader in the global food and agriculture ecosystem. Strategic Objectives: ·        The AGWA cluster will serve as a hub for developing and commercializing innovative technologies focused on food and water. ·        It will attract global talent in research, product development and entrepreneurship and bring together all relevant stakeholders to build capabilities and create a robust, enabling ecosystem ·        The cluster will integrate all aspects of the value chain - farming, manufacturing, technology, services and distribution to build a seamless continuum of agricultural production and route-to-market. ·        The initiative is expected to open up considerable investment opportunities in associated industries: alternative proteins, aquaculture, food ingredients, fresh produce, poultry and meat, water treatment and food certification standards and regulation. Projected total investment by 2045 = AED 128 billion This is an exciting opportunity for companies in the sustainable food and water industry looking to expand operations to the region. The launch also saw MoUs signed to develop cultivated meat capabilities in Abu Dhabi and establish regulatory pathways.
