It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our esteemed colleague, mentor and former chair, Bob Helman. Bob was a partner in our Chicago office for nearly 57 years, and he was a towering figure in the legal profession, recognized as one of the most highly regarded corporate lawyers in the United States. As chair, he led Mayer Brown through a pivotal transformation. Bob’s influence extended far beyond our firm. He was a dedicated servant to Chicago’s cultural, philanthropic, and legal communities. He was also dedicated to serving pro bono clients and the community at large, including helping establish Legal Aid Chicago to provide free legal services to indigent people. Bob’s dedication to service and mentorship instilled in us the values that define Mayer Brown and leaves an enduring legacy. On September 24, Mayer Brown’s European Women’s Network and Apollo Global Management, Inc. hosted an insightful panel event in London, titled “A Woman’s Health Journey from Fertility to Menopause.” Moderated by Mayer Brown’s Danielle Bliss and Apollo’s partner and international general counsel Seda Yalcinkaya, the event featured a discussion on the impact of stress on physical and mental health. Last night, Mayer Brown officially launched its NextGen initiative in New York, further extending the firm’s innovative platform that fosters opportunities for emerging leaders to network, build connections, and strengthen relationships with clients and peers. We welcomed more than 270 next generation business and legal industry leaders from across New York at the Metropolitan Club. Raymond Braun, two-time World Record Endurance athlete, former brand marketing executive, Stanford Entrepreneur in Residence, and multimedia journalist delivered the keynote address. First launched in London in 2018, NextGen is an empowerment platform inspired by the firm’s associates that connects junior lawyers with peers across a variety of sectors through a series of events and workshops. In New York, the initiative will kick off with a series of exciting events, including a leadership workshop on emerging legal technologies, a networking gala featuring prominent industry speakers, and a series of interactive panels focused on cross-sector collaboration. “The success of NextGen in London has been remarkable. We have seen our junior lawyers grow in confidence and capability, forming strong networks that have been beneficial both personally and professionally,” said partner Sally Davies, who helped launch the initiative in London and is part of the management committee. “Seeing the initiative expand globally and now to New York is incredibly rewarding.
