The CEBC is a non-government, non-profit member organization of leading local, regional, and international organizations operating in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) clean energy sector. An umbrella organization, the CEBC offers corporates, start-ups, SMEs, and the public sector with an inclusive forum for idea sharing and best practice promotion in the area of clean energy. Members are drawn from amongst the industry’s key players, including financiers, project developers, and service providers. Amongst the most important of the CEBC’s objectives are to increase public awareness of clean energy and technological developments, address the availability and accessibility of region-wide data, and nurture a dialogue between the private and public sectors to achieve our mission of accelerating the development and deployment of clean energy in the MENA region.     As the world pivots towards sustainable energy, understanding the cost dynamics of hydrogen is crucial. A recent analysis by Wood Mackenzie sheds light on significant trends and developments shaping hydrogen costs in 2024, with important implications for the MENA region. 🔹 Declining Costs: Hydrogen production costs are projected to decrease further in 2024, driven by technological advancements and increased scale. This trend is making hydrogen a more competitive energy source. 🔹 Regional Production Economics: In the MENA region, improving specific hydrogen project economics is essential. Optimizing local resources and infrastructure can lead to more cost-effective production and distribution, enhancing the region's position in the global market. 🔹 Technological Advancements: Innovations in electrolyzer efficiency and scaling up production processes are key factors in reducing costs. The MENA region, with its access to cutting-edge technologies, can leverage these advancements to boost hydrogen production. 🔹 Policy Support: Government policies and incentives are critical in shaping the hydrogen market. MENA countries are increasingly implementing supportive policies that can accelerate the adoption and cost competitiveness of hydrogen. 🔹 Investment Growth: Increased investments in hydrogen infrastructure and technology are vital. The MENA region is attracting significant investments, which will enhance production capabilities and reduce costs over time. 🔹 Market Dynamics: Understanding the dynamics of hydrogen demand and supply is crucial. The MENA region's strategic location and abundant natural resources position it as a key player in meeting global hydrogen demand. For us in the MENA energy sector, these insights are crucial.     As we conclude our campaign celebrating Women in Engineering, we highlight Margarita Huaca V. Sajons from Enernouva. With a background in Agricultural Engineering and a decade of business development experience spanning China, Spain, and the Middle East, Margarita has been instrumental in driving sustainability initiatives in Dubai since 2016. At Enernouva, Margarita spearheads the expansion and implementation of thermodynamic solar systems across the UAE. Her efforts with clients in sectors such as hotels, hospitals, and administrative buildings aim to reduce costs and achieve national goals for carbon footprint reduction. Margarita is passionate about promoting sustainability through innovative technologies and enhancing energy efficiency. She challenges traditional mindsets, advocating for green investments that yield positive financial returns despite initial hurdles. Her leadership has contributed significantly to Enernouva's portfolio, with over 450 projects underway or completed in the UAE. Margarita's dedication and expertise exemplify the impact women engineers make in shaping a sustainable future.     As we conclude our week-long campaign, we are excited to celebrate two more exceptional women engineers from our member company, UL Solutions. Their contributions to the field of renewable energy are truly inspiring. 🌟 Sibabalo Noludwe: As an Associate Project Engineer, Sibabalo is a dynamic professional with a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Currently working as a Renewable Energy Advisory Project Engineer at UL Solutions, her passion for the STEM field, instilled by her father, has driven her career in a traditionally male-dominated industry. Determined to break gender stereotypes in engineering, Sibabalo has become a role model for the next generation of young girls. During her university years, she earned the prestigious Women in Science Award, using it as a platform to empower young girls to pursue STEM fields. Sibabalo also dedicates her time to tutoring high-school students in mathematics and physical science, striving to ignite their passion for these subjects. Outside of work, she enjoys physical challenges such as hiking and playing soccer, balancing her professional and personal pursuits with enthusiasm and determination. 🌟 Fatemeh Moghaveleh: Fatemeh is a Project Engineer Associate at UL Solutions. She graduated from the University of Nottingham with an MSc in Electrical Engineering for Sustainability and Renewable Energy. Fatemeh is a firm believer in our responsibility to protect the world for future generations. She advocates for utilizing the endless resources available to us to benefit our planet and acknowledges the importance of sustainable practices. Her dedication to renewable energy and sustainability is driven by her commitment to creating a better future for all. These women are setting new standards in renewable energy and engineering.     Today, at CEBC, we are celebrating our outstanding women engineers from our member company, Positive Zero, who are driving the future of renewable energy. As part of our week-long campaign, we proudly highlight three exceptional women from Positive Zero. Their impact on the field of engineering is truly commendable. 🌟 Joëlle Tarabay, CEM: As a Performance Manager at Positive Zero - Generation, Joelle is an accomplished renewable energy professional with expertise in solar engineering and performance management. Starting her career as an Electrical Engineer at Butec s.a.l. in Lebanon, Joelle later specialized in global solar plant design and coordination at Akuo Energy Solutions in the UAE. Since joining Positive Zero in 2018, she has held various roles, including Solar Design Engineer, SCADA Engineer & Data Analyst, and now Performance Manager. Joelle's leadership in optimizing performance and operations through data analytics and innovative strategies is exemplary. She holds a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Lebanese University. 🌟 Jude Barghouthi: Jude is an Energy Engineer at Positive Zero's Energy Efficiency arm, Taka Solutions. Since 2017, she has been a vital part of the team, specializing in Measurement and Verification (M&V) to ensure energy efficiency measures meet their targets. Jude's expertise has been crucial in driving the company’s mission to optimize energy usage and reduce environmental impact. With a BSc in Civil Engineering and an MSc in Environmental Engineering, she is dedicated to making the built environment more sustainable. Outside of work, Jude is a passionate cook, delighting her friends and family with her culinary creations. 🌟 Vandana Ahuja: Vandana, Sr. Business Development Manager at Positive Zero - Generation, is a seasoned renewable energy engineer with extensive experience in project engineering management, construction, sales, and business development. Based in Dubai, Vandana has been instrumental in promoting clean energy solutions through distributed solar generation since joining Positive Zero in 2020. She has achieved significant milestones, including 24 MW of on-grid and off-grid solar installations for major companies. Vandana holds a Post Graduate degree in Project Engineering Management from NICMAR University and a Bachelor's degree in Construction Technology Management. Her work in sustainability and solar renewable energy is driven by the desire to create a better, more sustainable future. These women engineers exemplify the excellence and dedication that drive the engineering field forward.     We're also delighted today to showcase Avanthika Satheesh from Customized Energy Solutions for her outstanding contributions in the energy and power sector. Avanthika currently serves as Director - Emerging Technologies at CES, where she drives decarbonization efforts and inspires innovation in supporting renewable energy developers and manufacturers. She also serves as a Board member of the Clean Energy Business Council MENA for the term 2024-2025. Avanthika has over 15 years of experience, starting as a Design Engineer at Larsen & Toubro Ltd. She holds a Master's Degree in Power System Engineering from Anna University, where she ranked second, and has since focused on renewable energy. Her role as a Research Analyst at Frost & Sullivan sparked her interest in decarbonization, collaborating with multinational firms across the Asia Pacific in smart grid technologies, energy storage, and renewables. At Customized Energy Solutions, Avanthika led research for the India Energy Storage Alliance, exploring cutting-edge technologies like energy storage, electric vehicles, and hydrogen, and collaborating closely with policymakers, utilities, and private sector leaders in India. Let's now shine a spotlight on two remarkable professionals whose dedication, innovation, and resilience serve as inspiration to us all. 🌟 Sanam Siddique: Sanam is a Senior Business Development Manager at Johnson Controls with 17 years of experience in AEC, Sustainable Building Services, and Connected Technology in the MEA region. She has been featured as a LinkedIn Top Business Development Voice and is a DE&I Global Champion. An Electrical & Electronics Engineer with an MBA and a certified Digital Marketer, Sanam began her career in Building Services and has held various roles in Sales & Marketing within the lighting industry. At Johnson Controls, she is responsible for expanding the Building Technology Services footprint across the GCC, covering Digital, HVAC, Controls, Fire & Security. Passionate about community management, Sanam is also the founder of a thriving 30k member community and serves as a mentor at the Dubai Business Women Council (DBWC). Sanam’s inspiration to pursue engineering came from her father, whose work in project design and her love for physics fueled her passion. One of her most rewarding projects was being part of the design team for the London Olympics in 2012, where she discovered her love for lighting and connected technology. 🌟 Lamaat Elkhatib: Lamaat is a Sales Manager (HVAC-Install, Abu Dhabi) at Johnson Controls with over a decade of experience in the HVAC industry. She holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, a master’s degree in business administration (MBA), and a Master’s in Global Sustainability Engineering. Lamaat's technical foundation, combined with her business and sustainability knowledge, allows her to provide clients with efficient and environmentally responsible HVAC solutions. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated exceptional leadership and consistently exceeded targets, driving business growth. From a young age, Lamaat was fascinated by mechanics and problem-solving, which led her to pursue engineering. One of her most fulfilling projects involved developing an energy-efficient HVAC system for a large commercial building, significantly reducing energy consumption and positively impacting the environment. Lamaat is optimistic about the future of women in engineering and encourages young women to believe in their abilities, seek mentors, and stay curious. She emphasizes that engineering is a field where creativity and dedication can lead to significant advancements and impactful solutions.     🌟 As we continue our week-long celebration at CEBC honoring exceptional women engineers, today we shine a spotlight on Secil Torun from ENGIE for her outstanding contributions to the energy sector. Secil Torun joined ENGIE in 1997 and has held various positions related to natural gas infrastructures, including transmission pipelines and liquefied natural gas (LNG). Currently serving as Vice President - Engineering and Technical Project Management for ENGIE’s Asia-Middle East-Africa (AMEA) office, she focuses on developing hydrogen and power-to-X projects. Her previous role as the Hydrogen lab team leader at ENGIE Lab CRIGEN involved supervising research activities and coordinating R&D developments along the hydrogen chain. Secil has participated in over 12 European collaborative projects, showcasing her commitment to innovation and sustainability. Secil’s journey in engineering was inspired by her curiosity and passion for mathematics, physics, and chemistry. She finds the most rewarding aspect of her career to be her current work in hydrogen innovation, particularly at CRIGEN, where her team built a H2 factory with an electrolyser and multiple pilots to test solutions for clients. Her new challenge involves leading a renewable hydrogen to ammonia project in Oman to success. Reflecting on the evolving future for women in engineering, Secil notes significant progress with more women embracing this career path and thriving in engineering roles. She advises young women to be curious, believe in themselves, and join the exciting world of engineering, which offers diverse opportunities and the chance to contribute actively to addressing climate change and energy transition challenges. 🔧 Secil’s achievements in the engineering field highlight the importance of innovation and perseverance.
