8X Ventures — an early-stage venture capital firm — has closed the first round of its second deeptech fund at ₹200 crore, The Economic Times reports. The fund is looking to back 18-20 early-stage deeptech startups in India over the next three years, with initial investments ranging between ₹2 crore and ₹5 crore. It also has an additional green shoe option of ₹100 crore, the report says. Which sectors will it focus on? Water, sanitation and hygiene, advanced computing, biotech, Industry 4.0, and B2B enterprise SaaS, the report says further. The firm will back startups with accessible markets, developed tech, and sustainable advantages in terms of competition. Chirag Gupta, Managing Partner of 8X Ventures, said that India’s deeptech landscape offers opportunities for better returns than those of the United States, Europe, Singapore, or West Asia. In the last few months, several VC and venture debt firms have raised funds, including Stride Ventures (₹1,377 crore), IvyCap Ventures (₹2,100 crore), and Filter Capital (₹800 crore), among others, the report adds.
