Welcome to FIRE WOODS
A downloadable game for Windows
Gift for lucentbeam from the Secret Santa Game Jam 2024. My first ever game jam, and I intend on adding features in the future that I had planned originally before life (and Gamemaker) got in the way. Enjoy!
Welcome to FIRE WOODS, an unassuming-looking forest ravaged by Emerald Ash Borer Beetles (hence all the tree stumps). One day, Navy and Fairy went hiking in this forest, and discovered its curse - an eternal firestarter that can only be quenched by determination and water. Luckily, Fairy is able to keep the fires from setting anything ablaze, but it's up to Navy to put them out using a very handy magic-infused portable water hose!
Can you keep the fires from getting out of control?
- CONTROLS -
Navy: WASD to move. Left Ctrl to fire water (lol).
Fairy: Arrow keys to move. Spacebar to heal Navy for 10 hp.

Ay, I looked up the file type, I think you sent a raw gamemaker project instead of n exported, compiled game. You can still change the files btw.
Ah dangit. Thanks so much for letting me know. I will correct that immediately. I've only ever used Gamemaker for school projects where I was asked to submit a zip folder so I just defaulted to that, lol. Thanks again!
Hello! Thanks again for letting me know about the file issue. I just switched the zip folder for the one with the executable file. Please let me know if it works now!
Yup, works now. Was surprisingly difficult but I won. Cool game. If you want feedback, I'd say the fairy's use cases are a little niche.
Hey! Thanks so much for playing my game and leaving feedback! I'm glad you liked it and were able to beat it : D If you don't mind coming back in the future when I've hopefully had the time to polish it, I'd love to hear any further thoughts!
To your comment about the fairy, I designed that particular character with the young child of my giftee in mind. My giftee explained that their child has difficulty managing health in games, which is why Fairy does not have a health bar, and instead is a support character which is a little easier to understand and have fun with. I made this game with the intention that my giftee and their child would play it together, but that it would also be playable alone as Navy. I've also never made a multiplayer game in any engine before, so this was a particularly big deal for me.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to add in several features that I wanted to during the game jam time, such as a brief tutorial/controls screen and instructions, Fairy having multiple abilities, and a difficulty/time limit selector(which is currently partially completed and automatically set to Standard). But I did intend on putting in a single-player or co-op selector as well for this reason. I hope that makes a little more sense!
