The World Intellectual Property Forum (WIPF) was held from the 20th to the 23rd of February 2023 at the Hotel Shangri-La in Bengaluru, India. This year, the conference focussed on 'Intellectual Property: The Race to Digital Transformation' and provided great opportunities for networking, and knowledge sharing among the various stakeholders of research & innovation in India and abroad.

On December 11, 2022, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the All India Institute of Ayurveda in Dhargal, Goa, and addressed the valedictory session of the 9th World Ayurveda Congress and Arogya Expo.

Dr. Niti Dewan & Dr. Mohan Dewan were privileged to visit South Korea recently in Mid-October.

They travelled to three locations; Gangnam, Busan & North Seoul. At Gangnam, they had a series of meetings with Korean attorneys & clients discussing various aspects of IP commercialisation in India & protection & prosecution of Korean Intellectual Property in India.

Next, after through the length of the country, they travelled to Busan where they attended APAA, 0222 & interacted with over 100 patent attorneys from Korea & all over the world.

Their visit to Busan coincided with the last concert of the BTS. After Busan, the Dewans drove back to North Seoul to attend the KINPA 2022, where they again interacted with nearly 100 members of the association.

During the visit, the Dewans were also privileged to be exposed to different aspects of Korean culture and Cuisine.

The visit strengthened RK Dewan & Co.’s ties with Korea which is already very strong and resilient and will definitely lead to an improvement in the Korean-Indian relations.

Since the last few days we have received multiple queries regarding filing of the applications/ documents, deadlines, notarization/legalization of documents etc. due to the Covid-19 lockdown faced by many countries across the world.

We understand that the lockdowns have caused the process of obtaining the original documents, notarization/legalization etc., if not very difficult, impossible. Thus, the question of how to face the upcoming deadlines remains unanswered.

Due to nationwide lockdown until April 14, 2020 announced by the Government of India, the operations of various institutions have been suspended till April 14, 2020 which might extend though there is no official notification till date.

Moreover, even if the IP Office in India reopens, the provision to file requests for extension of time shall be entertained by the concerned IP Office considering the ongoing pandemic as force majeure and thereafter documents can be filed with ease.

This is to inform you that R.K. Dewan is fully functional (work from home) to provide you full assistance in e-filing of forms/documents pertaining to your Intellectual Property before respective IP Office, India. We, therefore, recommend you to not delay in filing of forms/documents for unavailability of original/notarized/legalized documents. Requirement of any such nature, if any, can be complied with after the situation becomes normal.

Dr. Niti Dewan was conferred with the IP Gems Recognition Award for her stellar contributions to the field of Intellectual Property. A complement of 21 skilled engineers and scientists working out of our Mumbai, Pune, Delhi and Bengaluru offices have successfully cleared the Patent Agent Examination, 2018. Mr. Gaurang Dhond from Pune is among the top 10 scorers all over India. Our super girls of RKD, viz., Ms. Bhagyashree Laghate and Ms. Sharvari Kelkar from Pune were not far behind and have both scored above 200 out of a total of 250 in the Patent Agent Exam.

All the qualifiers have made us feel elated and we at RKD are extremely proud and extend our heartiest congratulations to the newly inducted Patent Agents at our Firm.

The Patent Agent Examination in India, was held on October 28, 2018. From a total complement of 25 extremely talented engineers and scientists at our Mumbai, Delhi, Pune and Bangalore offices here at RKD, 22 individuals were listed in the published merit list and have successfully cleared the written examination of the Patent Agent Exam, 2018. Their accomplishment has made the firm feel proud of them.

Thus, on this occasion we extend our hearty congratulations to each individual, who has cleared the examination and has also struck a perfect balance between studying and delivering proficient services to our Clients.

Disha Dewan, Patent Attorney & RKD’s Head of Global Business Operations, was invited to speak at the CIPA Life Sciences Conference held at Whittlebury Hall, Towcester, UK on 16-17th November 2017. This conference is known to provide unrivalled expert insight into the latest developments in patents, regulatory and IP law in the global life science industry. With a focus on the pharma, biotechnology & medical technology sectors, Disha’s talk focused on latest developments in India while keeping with the theme “Dispelling Myths about patents in India”.

To kickstart its 75th anniversary celebrations, RKD organized an inter-office retreat on 07-09th September 2017 at the beautiful Fariyas Resort in Lonavala, India. Over a 100 team members came together to mark the occasion in a multi-faceted 3 day event. The events included exploring the local sights including the wax museum, scary house & mirror maze, individual/team games & prizes and water park & ziplining adventures. The team was also super enthusiastic about a 7am High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) exercize session on the hotel grounds. Just before the gala dinner & DJ night, about 40 team members performed in a cultural show showcasing their musical, artistic and dance talents. Many team members had very interesting experiences to share about their time at RKD, right from the newest joinee to the seniormost leaders who have been with the firm for over 30 years! Dr Niti Dewan talked about the the history and growth of RKD from a small 120 sq foot office in Mumbai to over 12,000 sq ft offices across 6 cities; while others talked about loving the biweekly yoga classes and team picnics. While addressing the RKD family, Dr Mohan Dewan remembered his father, Raj Kumar Dewan, the founder of the firm and his amazing vision to start an IP firm in India in the year 1942, whose legacy continues to this very day.
