AIA offers nearly 400 lots of historical stocks and bonds in a double sesssion auction held over two days. Among the many attractive certificates is a stunning bond trio from the San Fransisco International Airport (SFO).
This is one of three City and County of San Fransisco bonds offered as lot 296 in the auction. The $1000 Airport 1949 Loan bond was issued in 1950. The engraved vignette shows a four-engine propeller airliner, a Douglas DC-4. SFO's history starts in 1927 when the City and County of San Fransisco leases 150 acres from politician and business man Ogden L. Mills for use as an airport. The airport was initially called Mills Field Municipal Airport, but it was renamed into San Francisco Municipal Airport in 1931. SFO adopted its present name in 1955.
