Summary[edit]

Photoshop illustration representing Captain America's shield, as depicted in Captain America Comics #1 (March 1941). The escutcheon design reflected the character's patriotic motif, incorporating three stars and red, white and blue stripes (order of color varied between the cover and the interior). This design was dropped the following issue in favor of the more familiar circular shield, of which there were at least four different variants between 1941 and the present day. No copyright was violated in the production of this image. Stars, stripes, colors and geometric shapes are not subject to individual copyright.

Notes[edit]

Although this image is in use on at least 6 non-English wikimedia projects, it has never appeared on en.Wikipedia - a rather strange oversight considering that Captain America was first published in English. This discrepancy is most likely due to the administration's irrational hatred towards the contributing artist.
