Thanks and welcome

[edit]

Thanks for joining this task force, hopefully we will be able to have a more co-ordinated approach to Liverpool articles, and get as many as possible into such a state that they can be good, or even featured articles. John Hayestalk 11:07, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

The link next to Liverpool FC on the WPF header it is linked to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Munich/Liverpool task force. It is a red link. I am not sure how to change it so I wont try. It does need to be changed though. mattypc 16:27, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Userbox

[edit]

I think maybe you should change the background colour I know it is the clubs colours but I have changed taskforce England and taskforce Womens football to the same background as are {{User WikiProject Football}} and {{User WikiProject Non-league football}}. So maybe it should be changed to make Football userboxes in the same style. mattypc 16:39, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well it is up to you, the box is open for anyone to edit, but none of those are associated with specific colours, whereas Liverpool is. John Hayestalk 21:16, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Liverpool FAC

[edit]

I feel this article is ready to be nominated now, but I feel we should discuss this first, anyone support this or object to it NapHit 17:20, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It certainly looks close to me, but peer review first, please. Robotforaday 16:57, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you mean AFC Liverpool, you spelt it wrong! Zacitty (talk) 10:38, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

More Members

[edit]

We need to get some more members, I am sure there are more people who edit the articles on a regular basis, I just picked out you lot as you seemed to have done the most recently, but you probably know other editors. John Hayestalk 21:20, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Did you ask user:alii h and user:Seb Patrick? They've contributed to the articles quite a lot. ArtVandelay13 21:35, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Important Articles

I would like to know why some players are on the list and others aren't! Some of the longer serving ones, (Hyypia, Finnan, Carragher etc.) El-Nin09 19:30, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just picked out a couple which need watching, either for current events or articles which suffer from a lot of vandalism, feel free to add/remove as you see fit. John Hayestalk 21:23, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well i do this with everything i join, so how about a barnstar, merger with the Liverbird? El-Nin09 19:33, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Talk Redirect

[edit]

I would like to propose redirecting Talk:Liverpool F.C. season 2007-08 to Talk:Liverpool F.C. because i can't see Talk:Liverpool F.C. season 2007-08 being used too often. El-Nin09 19:02, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah seems fine. John Hayestalk 19:47, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tagging

[edit]

We need to tag some more articles, there are a lot of liverpool related articles which aren't listed as such. I'm going through tagging them as I see them, but if you see any article without {{Football|England=yes|Liverpool=yes|importance=Top/High/Mid/Low|class=B/Start/Stub}} give it the tag. John Hayestalk 09:21, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well I just got that from 30 to 69 articles, but that was just the current first team, some officials, and a few older players and managers. There should be plenty more. John Hayestalk 10:21, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Could we get a bot to do it? To tag all articles in Category:Liverpool F.C. and subcategories ArtVandelay13 10:49, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Would be nice. Not sure if it exists. But I've also been adding the importance and quality parameters which have to be done manually anyway. John Hayestalk 11:53, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm currently tagging all talk pages which don't have the football template with {{Football|England=yes|Liverpool=yes|importance=|class=}}, where the man page is in Category:Liverpool F.C. (using AWB)John Hayestalk 01:22, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

First 250 pages done, of which 130 were edited. Another 350 to go. After that it will get more complicated when I have to find ones with football templates but no Liverpool tags. John Hayestalk 01:47, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Another 180 edited, that's all done. My next task will be adding the Liverpool tag to all the football templates which don't have it. John Hayestalk 22:37, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
However, please do not tag articles which would not meet notability criteria as being supported by the Wikipedia Football project unless you are certain that they would be. Players who have not played competitive first team professional football are not considered sufficiently notable to have an article, unless they have other grounds under WP:BIO. Kevin McE (talk) 01:12, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I realise that (see my comments on the Ryan Flynn afd). I simply have tagged the talk pages of those pages which are already tagged with the Liverpool category, I'm not making any judgement on those pages. That is the next step. John Hayestalk 01:17, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And apart from that, until they are deleted, this taskforce does support them, so the template is accurate. Then finding the articles which should be deleted will be much easier if they are linked to this taskforce, than if they were effectively orphaned. John Hayestalk 01:21, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
My contention is with the tag that claims that they are supported by the WP:FOOTY comunity, which, if they do not meet its notability criteria, that community does not. To state that something which is ostensibly AfDable is an article that has support is easily read as meaning that that group has come to a consensus against its deletion. Kevin McE (talk) 13:56, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well I don't agree with that. It's an article on football, it currently exists. it should be part of WP:FOOTY. Once it has been afd'd, which most of these of these cases now have, it is obvious that there isn't a consensus against it's deletion. Alternatively maybe it's the text of the template that needs to change. Still if you want we can get some more opinions on this, but in any case I'm finished tagging now, and the articles that I found (through the tagging procedure) have now been put up for afd. John Hayestalk 14:13, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've completed that as well now, another 110 edits, all Liverpool F.C. related articles now have the Liverpool and England tags, and importance and class, even if they haven't been rated yet. Which brings me to the next task, all articles without an importance or class rating need to be rated. This has to be a manual task, so I can do with some help. John Hayestalk 11:15, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Players to add

[edit]

The players to add list is pretty much complete - there are still some 0 appearance players to add, once I or others think of them. It will also act as a useful watchlist as new player articles appear. If you are to add new players, don't forget the MOS. ArtVandelay13 21:37, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Captains

[edit]

I found List of Liverpool F.C. captains in a rather lacklustre state. I have cleaned it up but it needs referencing. I also think that it is probably worth merging to List of Liverpool F.C. players in much the same way that List of Aston Villa F.C. players does. Most of the captains will be notable in themselves? I don't know, only a suggestion, but it most certainly needs referencing. Woodym555 16:00, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is now up for deletion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Liverpool F.C. captains. All comments welcome. Woodym555 (talk) 16:07, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What happened to the information from this article? User:NapHit seems to have completely deleted it from the List of Liverpool F.C. statistics and records article, and since the original article doesn't exist any more, all information on Liverpool's captains seems to have disappeared from Wikipedia entirely. – PeeJay 16:10, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Userbox Image

[edit]

I noticed the user box image was replaced with "THIS WAS NOT A FREE IMAGE" (a free image is requirement for userboxes apparently). How about using the image of the Shankly Gates? - that image is free and would look like this:

To me it's not obvious to non liverpool fans what it is. And it's too big, I'm not sure if it would be very clear when it is shrunk down. John Hayestalk 10:55, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Why not just take a picture of the club logo, on a shirt or even better on the outside of the Kop and put that on? Zacitty (talk) 19:06, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You'll Never Walk Alone

[edit]

You'll Never Walk Alone (song) is subject to frequent vandalism. Please keep an eye on it. Spion Kop (stadia) is worth clocking too. smb (talk) 21:51, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is currently a dispute on page You'll Never Walk Alone (song) between myself, User:Barryob (Celtic fan) and User:RoyalBlueStuey (Everton fan). I would appreciate some input. RoyalBlueStuey asserts that YNWA has been "part of Celtic's tradition and heritage" for "two generations" and is pressing hard for inclusion of such information, something I find most dubious. Am I wrong to insist that he provides a separate source other than this, because it doesn't actually state when Celtic adopted the song? smb 12:59, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will have a look. But in short (without having looked at the issue), if there is no source with a date then the "two generations" which is a bit vague anyway, can't be mentioned. John Hayestalk 13:51, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article of the week month

[edit]

I feel we need an article of the week, which we attempt to improve. Since setting this project up not a huge amount has changed. If every week we have a new article to work on it would mean that our efforts may be more concentrated. This could be anything from getting an article to good or featured status, to working on a stub. Anyone else like the idea? John Hayestalk 16:51, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This could be a good idea, but perhaps "of the week" is a bit ambitious, and "of the fortnight" or "of the month" more realistic? Robotforaday (talk) 00:36, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
True, ok what about having a couple of articles of the month. That way everyone in the task force who wants to can suggest an article every month, and we all take a look at them. Even if we only go and add a source or a few lines it will slowly improve the articles. John Hayestalk 10:11, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Liverpool F.C. Reserves and Academy is in need of a lead section - it has been without one pretty much since the Reserves and Academy articles were merged (something I never really agreed with, although I was in a minority). I started the article as Liverpool F.C. Reserves, and had no problem writing a lead just for the Reserves, but I have no idea what should go in the lead for a combined Reserves and Academy article. Any ideas? (Perhaps it would make a good article of the month?) Robotforaday (talk) 19:23, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, I'll make it the first (along with Martin Škrtel) John Hayestalk 19:32, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notable players section in Liverpool F.C. article

[edit]

Just as a heads up, as the notable players section was removed from this article (I have copied the section in question into my userspace), I have started a discussion at WP:FOOTBALL about whether prose sections on notable players can be included within articles. I'd be interested to see what people who are familiar with the Liverpool F.C. article think about this, if they would care to take part in the discussion there. I just don't want to see wikipedia reduced to a series of dry lists, and I think that one of the most essential things any visitor to an article on a football club wants to know is "what famous players have played for that team". Deletions

[edit]

I'd really rather not have to do it, but I've put a number of the fringe first team players, who have yet to play a professional game, up for afd. Hopefully they will play soon, and therefore either the afd can be halted, or the articles resurrected. John Hayestalk 02:19, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I support this, as the inclusion policy has to be even-handed, although I share your regrets. Robotforaday (talk) 14:26, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It does seem a little strange is some cases, where Robbie Threlfall & Ryan Flynn, both players at a similar stage in their careers, and similar backgrounds, both go on loan to Hereford, one plays 4 games, the other gets injured and doesn't play, and because of that one player can have an article and the other can't. I can't imagine that one is really notable and the other not. Still, rules is rules. John Hayestalk 14:38, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thats perfectly simple. The notability guidlines say players who have played senior games for any club currently in the football league can have articles, whilst players who have been registered on a club's senior squad list but have never made a first-team appearance can't have an article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zacitty (talkcontribs) 19:10, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Anfield and LFC stats

[edit]

If anyone has any spare time would they mind having a look at Anfield as it is currently under Peer Review and has only had one contribution so far, and seeing as I want to go to FAC straight after I would welcome more opinions. LFC stats is at FLC, so if anyone could add their comments to either I would very extermely grateful. Cheers NapHit (talk) 19:49, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

[edit]

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Superleague Formula Motorsport has a Liverpool FC team

[edit]

Hey all, I found Superleague Formula today and noticed that LFC apparently have an official team. I think this probably means it ought to be included in the project, so I'll tag it as such. This post is a heads up really. --Ged UK (talk) 14:03, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Liverpool F.C.

[edit]

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

[edit]

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
