For example, George L. King moved from Taiwan when he was 10 years old, but his notable career has been in America. Should he be categorized under Category:American physicians or Category:Taiwanese physicians? His citizenship status is not known. BhamBoi (talk) 21:41, 14 January 2024 (UTC)

Peer review of historic British Royal family member/German Nobleman/Nazi leader

Charles Edward, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha was a strange, footnote-of-history type character. A British prince who became a German duke and later a Nazi leader. I have put it up for peer review (See:Wikipedia:Peer review/Charles Edward, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha/archive1) in the hope of getting it to featured article status. Can you assume nationality if no sources explicitly state it?

e.g. Cynthia Gardner; her place of birth is not known, but her career has been in the U.S. and with a national government agency. Can I put her in Category:American geologists, or do I have to tag Category:Geologists with Category:Nationality missing? BhamBoi (talk) 22:26, 27 January 2024 (UTC)

Similar nationality questions can be raised about hundreds of pages, but a few more geologists just for example include Terry Keith and Robert Mitchell, who both have notable careers in the United States, but I'm still unsure whether to tag them with nationality unknown because it's not known what country they are actually nationals of. Updating "as of" in Robert Rubin article

Hi WikiProject Biography, I work for Robert Rubin and recently posted an edit request seeking to update the "as of" phrasing used to describe three ongoing affiliations of Mr. Rubin. Verification that he has been involved in each are already supported by reliable sources, but those sources are now a bit older. One of these affiliations also includes a link to Mr. Rubin's biography on that group's website, so my thought was to update the accessdate for this one and add similar links showing that Mr. Rubin is still active in the other two. I realize these will be primary sources, but they are prominant organizations and there is no reason to doubt them. I had raised this on the talk page, but no one has weighed in, so I thought I'd come here and see if there was any interest from folks in this. I'd love to hear your thoughts, here or there. Draft article awaiting review for director/writer Misha Manson-Smith

I have a draft biography pending review for director/writer Misha Manson-Smith. It has yet to be reviewed after some weeks. Seeking feedback to progress it getting published. Intending to link it to a new article on "hybrid comedy" which is a niche but specific sub genre as performed by the likes of Sacha Baron Cohen, Nathan Fielder, Marc Wootton and Eric Andre, in which actors play fictional characters interacting with unsuspecting people in documentary like situations. Manson-Smith has directed a number of works in this field. On the help chat, I was advised to post here, along with the key citations that demonstrate notability. Links below. Any feedback would be most helpful.

Request for Megan Twohey biography

Hello! My name is Danielle Rhoades Ha and I work for [[The New York Times Company]]. I have disclosed my affiliation at [[Talk:Megan Twohey]], where I was asked by User:Tamzin to verify my identity after flagging some issues with Megan Twohey's biography. I am struggling to get editor feedback [[Talk:Megan_Twohey#Revisiting_the_transgender_healthcare_section|here] ], where I've outlined my concerns related to the "Transgender healthcare" section. I have outlined how the section has non-neutral text, overemphasizes the amount of criticism received, and uses sources labeled as "commentary" or op-eds. I have also provided more accurate and neutral replacement text based on the same sources, including the sources I think may be problematic. I still welcome User:Tamzin's feedback, but I would also like to invite other editors to weigh in. Are any editors here willing to take a look at my proposed changes in more detail? Thanks for your consideration. DanielleRhoadesHa (talk) 20:29, 9 March 2024 (UTC)

Michele Fitzgerald nominated for deletion

Deletion nomination for Category:American politicians who are the sole member of their party in statewide office

I am commenting to appeal for Keep votes on this deletion entry for Category:American politicians who are the sole member of their party in statewide office. I believe it is an extremely obvious measure of the unique identity of politicians who are incentivized to be "mavericks," as well as electoral geography and power balance. Much of the reasoning for deletion relies on the nominator's as-yet unsourced insistence that categories must permanently apply to pages, rather than be subject to current events or changes in employment, like elections. Others have simply declared this plainly unique status to be non-defining. The Delete voters have been largely unresponsive, and even when they do respond, have been argumentatively selective and engage in sophistry. Thank you very much for your consideration. 1Matt20 (talk) 18:45, 17 April 2024 (UTC)

Does "girlfriend"/"boyfriend" count as "partner"?

I've edited Gaten Matarazzo infobox to remove the listing of Amy Yu as his "partner" (but I left in the "personal life" item about their relationship). The cited article describes her as his "girlfriend". Does Wikipedia have standard practice/criteria for what qualifies as "partner"? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bsammon (talkcontribs) 16:04, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

How to deal with people-lists split by subsections such as current/former/deceased

I don't ordinarily deal with biographies and people-list articles, so I thought I'd ask the good folks at WP:BIOGRAPHY for their experience on how similar articles are treated, or maybe even get some links to other similar articles so I can see how those present such categorization.

My question is how to deal with articles that have lists of people that have been separated out by statuses such as current/former/deceased. Of course trying to find a particular person in such an article means you have to scroll through 3 lists to find the one you're looking for, but is it even necessary to split people out? Who is checking to see if someone has died (so as to move the entry to the other section)?

In my case, I'm working on Scientology officials. Earlier it was a list-article, separated by the three sections current/deceased/former (example of old list-only version). It has since been made into a regular article by the addition of non-list content, and renamed to remove the "List of" part of the title, but retains the original list of people (plus some added since then). I had thought of removing the subcategories current/deceased/former and making just one alphabetical list, so I checked each entry to make sure there was sufficient information in each paragraph where a reader could easily see if the person was deceased or a former official (if we even know that information). We almost never know when someone dies or has left the employ, so I think the subsections should be removed.

Are there other similar articles in Wikipedia? Have there been other discussions about this sort of situation that I could read? Any insight would be appreciated.   ▶ I am Grorp ◀ 15:54, 6 May 2024 (UTC)

Request for Review and Input on a New Article about Michelle Valberg

Hello, WikiProject Biography members,

I recently created a draft article about Michelle Valberg, a renowned Canadian nature and wildlife photographer known for her extensive work, especially in the Arctic regions. This article aims to highlight her career, contributions to photography, and her efforts in environmental and philanthropic activities.

As I prepare to move this draft towards a formal review, I am seeking your expertise to ensure that the article meets Wikipedia's standards for accuracy and neutrality and that it adequately covers her significant contributions to the field of photography.

I would greatly appreciate any feedback, suggestions, or edits you could provide to help enhance this article. Here is the link to the draft: Draft:Michelle Valberg

Unassessed articles tagged with WikiProject Physics and WP Math

I just started a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject_Physics#Biographical importance ratings? and now realize that maybe I should have gone here, instead. Some biographical subject matter expertise is needed, since I don't understand how its supposed to work. Here's the post I put up there:

The physics project template counts the number of articles ranked by importance, and quality. Here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Physics/Quality Control There are currently 700 articles with unassesed priority (marked "???"). Clicking through, almost all of these are biographies. I suspect that no one particularly wants to tackle this, because of the unpleasantness of tagging someone's biography as "unimportant". That, plus the true difficulty of actually assigning a relative ranking -- you have to be very cross-disciplinary to be able to assess such comparisons. And that's just within physics, never mind something like "my biologist is more important than your physicist" or god help us, "our TV anchor is more notable than your physicist". Thus, I'm wondering if perhaps there might be better to avoid this issue entirely? I'm thinking of allowing the template to have an "importance=biographical" value. Or maybe there is some better way to do this? FWIW, Wikipedia:WikiProject Mathematics has exactly this same issue with unrated articles. (I'll cross-post there shortly.)

Dragan Šolak (businessman)

Hello, I would like to seek editor input on this edit request on the Dragan Šolak (businessman) article and its Money laundering investigations section.

In a discussion with another editor on the Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard I outline how the name of the section is misleading, as it could imply Šolak was investigated for money laundering, which he was not. This section is not about Dragan Šolak directly but rather a media company owned by him and its reporting into Slovenian government misconduct. AlexforUnited (talk) 06:23, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

Starting this July, we will see a new contest on the scene - the Developing Countries WikiContest (WP:DCWC)! Think of it as a WikiCup but only for articles and media on developing countries.

Competitors may submit GAs, GTs, FAs, FTs, FLs, FPs, and DYK and ITN entries from/on developing countries to gain points and proceed to further rounds. Points are also awarded to those who review GAs, FAs and FLs.

I encourage everyone here to sign up and compete with editors from around the world to create high-quality content! Many people from developing countries have poorly-written biographies, and this is a great opportunity to improve those articles.

Append your name to the DCWC signup page today!

There is a content dispute on Talk:Orlando Figes that could use the input of people who know BLP policy! The Orlando Figes#Amazon reviews controversy of 2010 is the subject, with one side preferring to excise it or at least minimise its coverage, and the other thinking that it is relevant content requiring full coverage. There are quite a few policy-based claims that have been made including some that regular BLP-ers might have more insight on like Wikipedia:Who is a low-profile individual.

Cleaning up biographical article for Geoffrey von Maltzahn

Hi, I'm Lindy from the Flagship Pioneering communications team, and I've started to look into cleaning up the biography for one of the firm's partners, Geoffrey von Maltzahn. As my User page explains, I have a financial conflict of interest with his Wikipedia article, so I am making requests for editors to review. To begin bringing the page back to Wikipedia standards, removing anything promotional, I've made an initial request for removal of the Awards section. As editors here are familiar with biographies and the standards for them, I hope someone can look at this request and also potentially offer other suggestions for cleanup. POV/length check for NZ historian

The article Erik Olssen has gotten significant contributions from someone who has been in contact with the author and seems to be a big fan. A lot of material has been trimmed, but I'm not sure the remaining material reads neutrally or doesn't have some excess detail. I've read it too many times, and was wondering if anyone with more familiarity with how biographies are supposed to read would be willing to skim it and point out any glaring problems. The list of awards at Andrew Michael Hurley#Awards is a table. Looking at other articles on authors, almost all I found had the awards as a prose section or a bulleted list, the exception being a table created by the same editor as this one, at Damon Galgut#Awards and honours. Problems with New User

Hey everyone, I've run into some issues with a new user over at Taylor Hagler who is convinced that biographical information shouldn't be included in the infobox. I've already reverted once and left a note at their talk page but I'd like to avoid an edit war if at all possible -- I'm concerned that things are headed in that direction. Would someone be able to point me in the right direction regarding next steps? SmackJam (talk) 00:26, 30 July 2024 (UTC)
