I need a control for this possible ban-evasion, as there are many signs that Periklis* (talk · contribs) that this may be the permanently banned Cretanpride (talk · contribs). This suspect comes from 1) exactly like C., P. claims to be a Greek American. 2) The dates coincide: P. started editing on September 30, while on September 24 his last wave of socks had been detected, and hade made his notorious death threats 3) they both have a great interest for modern Greek military history: they have both edited Battle of Greece, Greco-Turkish War (1919-1922), Battle of Crete and World War II. 4) A common special interest for Crete-related topics: they both edited the article on the Chretan singer Nikos Xilouris and Battle of Crete and have edited of the battle of Crete in more general articles. 5) a common on adding the word "pyrrhic"; as Cretanpride added it to the infobox of battle of Crete, so did Periklis* with the infobox of the Battle of Thermopylae. 6) Cretanpride has had from 15 September an ascertained sockpuppet called Perikles (talk · contribs): it's hard not to note the similarity among Perikles and Periklis*.--Aldux 10:51, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

"a link to the closed [ArbCom] case""[a link to] the discussion that resulted in the ban or block" would be great also. Apologies for the error - got my codes mixed up :). Daniel.Bryant 11:24, 22 October 2006 (UTC)- Comment. The link above is to the AN/I discussion of Cretanpride's most outrageous offence, the death threat — however, I had already indefinitely blocked him for extensive sockpuppetry and block-evasion. After multiple offences (which can be seen at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Cretanpride) I changed the block to indefinite on September 17. The block was supported by a strong consensus on Talk:Homosexuality in ancient Greece, and after Cretanpride's further disruption (including the death threat) it more-or-less morphed into a community ban. —Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 22:17, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

- Code letter: F
A previous RfCu for Takidis was declined as a throwaway account. He has edited Talk:Homosexuality in ancient Greece, using many of the same arguments Cretanpride did. He has posted to my talk page, requesting that the checkuser be performed, so that his concerns about the article can be addressed on their own merits, rather than being dismissed as Cretanpride's monomania. —Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 00:14, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
- Cretanpride's edits are too old to get an IP from. I can't run a check unless you have some other way to get IP evidence for me to check against. Dmcdevit·t 17:10, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

- None of these are helpful either, unfortunately. Inconclusive there. Dmcdevit·t 06:59, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
comment First off, Aldux has greatly exaggerated the similarities.
1) I made only one edit on Greco-Turkish war which pointed out a neutrality violation. 2) I have turned 'Battle of Greece' from a start class into an FA candidate. 3) I was planning to do the same to related articles. That is, turn them into an FA candidates. 4) Adding the word 'pyrrhic' doesn't really count for much, since it is a usual Greek expression. 5) I have gotten along with fellow wikipedians and I have not started any debates. Judging from Cretanpride's contributions, the only thing he did was start arguments. 6) I would NEVER make any threat to anyone. I have been courteous to everyone. 7) My name in real life is Periklis, and many other users on wiki have that name. 8) There are millions of Greek-Americans. 9) This is a bad-faith accusation, and I never was informed that I was suspected.
Again, I see no harm which can be done if you allow me to edit. I will not support Cretanpride's line, and in order to be a sockpuppetry account, it has to support a cause, something I haven't done. It is not against wiki policy to have more than one account so long as you don't support a cause. Periklis* 03:35, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Code F. Single-purpose account, posting to an RfC on Talk:Alexander the Great (see this diff). Takidis echoes positions that confirmed socks of Cretanpride have taken on the topic of Alexander's sexuality (see this diff, for instance, and the archived RFCU's on the same sockpuppeteer. Writing style seems the same as CP's and his socks' as well. --Akhilleus (talk) 00:53, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
- I noticed this from the "what links here" on my page. I am not Cretanpride nor a sock of Cretanpride. A fundamental policy on WP is to assume good faith, something which you have all violated. I insist, please do perform a checkuser. I have things to say and would like to be taken seriously. I, having an interest in Alexander the Great, decided to post my opinion. There is nothing wrong with that. Please, perform the checkuser so I can be free of this suspicion. Thanks. Takidis 20:46, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Code F (ban evasion), but I can't find the discussion that resulted in Cretanpride being banned. Ample evidence of his sockpuppetry is on the RCU case page, not to mention Category:Wikipedia sockpuppets of Cretanpride. Cretanpride also issued a fake death threat.
A new user, Alex35, made this edit to Alexander the Great. Alex35's edit reflects Cretanpride's attitude towards homosexuality. His edit summary claims that "Agreement" has been reached on talk page, when discussion is actually deadlocked; this is also a behavior of Cretanpride's socks, including the odd capitalization. --Akhilleus (talk) 15:32, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

In this comment on Talk:Alexander the Great, User:SaveGreekHistory posted a link to a Myspace thread, whose initial post was by a Myspace user called "Greek". User:Steve88, a confirmed sock of Cretanpride, previously directed us to Myspace threads started by "Greek". These threads invite Myspace users to edit Homosexuality in ancient Greece and other articles--a concrete illustration of Cretanpride recruiting meatpuppets. --Akhilleus (talk) 23:21, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Also, whether or not this is confirmed, could someone please do some targeted IP range blocking or something? Cretanpride is creating new socks on a regular basis. --Akhilleus (talk) 23:26, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- I think this account can be blocked as a sockpuppet based on similar edit behavior, but I would agree the IP behind them needs to be blocked for longer than the standard 24 hour autoblock. I would therefore like to ask the checkuser not to confirm sockpuppetry (that's obvious), but to apply a block to the involved IP(s). This RFCU subpage has ample evidence of sockpuppetry by this user to warrant it. - Mgm|(talk) 09:29, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
User:Yannis234 made this edit to Talk:Alexander the Great, praising the posts of User:Apro and User:GreekEconomist. Seems to be following Cretanpride's pattern. --Akhilleus (talk) 21:49, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
User:James258 posted this message which includes a possible personal attack and material from the same Myspace discussions that Cretanpride directed us to. The name is similar to User:James577, already blocked as a (probable?) sock of Cretan. --Akhilleus (talk) 03:31, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
- All of these seem obvious enough to me that I've blocked them as sockpuppets of Cretanpride. However, I'd like to echo the call for a range block; this is getting tiresome. —Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 04:39, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

My IP was blocked because I started with a Greek name and was therefore confusing. I replaced it with GreekEconomist once the block was lifted. My IP is 66.233.19.91. This IP has been used by me and only by me. It is not my fault Clearwire IPs are similar. I would also point out that I have never edited on any articles Cretanpride has and have never supported any of his arguments. I felt obliged to post here given Cretanpride's history. - To clarify: the matter to be determined is whether Μέγας Αλέξανδρος (talk · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log · CA · CheckUser(log) · investigate · cuwiki) is the same as MegasAllexandros (talk · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log · CA · CheckUser(log) · investigate · cuwiki), a former Cretanpride sockpuppet. This isn't as clear-cut as previous cases, but I still suspect User:Perikles is Cretanpride's sock. The account has been active since 15 September 2006, and made a recent edit to Homosexuality in ancient Greece (see this diff) reflecting Cretanpride's enthusiasm for the work of Bruce Thornton. Like some of Cretanpride's other socks, Perikles is named after a famous ancient Greek.

Some other suspects involving sockpuppetry by Cretanpride. A very fresh account, the suspects regard mainly 1) his total opposition to take in consideration that Alexander the Great may have been homosexual or bisexual 2)his interest for the battle of Crete, one of the articles preferred by C., as clear by his message to User_talk:Jpbrenna#Cretan_Resistance_Article 3) he's edited Greco-Turkish War (1919-1922), as done before by C. 4)most of all, the user pages; as for the languages box, in both Cretanpride's and MegasAllexandros' userpages he claims native Greek, native English and near-native Spanish. They also both have the userbox with written "this user is proud to be Greek".--Aldux 22:36, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
