(4/13/0); Scheduled to end 21:35, 18 September 2008 (UTC) Candidate withdrew. –xeno (talk) 22:49, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
LAAFan (talk · contribs) - I am taking the Why the hell not? approach for this RFA. I know this could be a quick RFA, but I might as well try. For those who don't know me, I am LAAFan. I have been editing Wikipedia for about 4 months and two weeks now. During this time, I have accumulated over 3000 edits. (count from toolserver.org, if anyone is wondering) I enjoy writing article, hence i have a triple crown. I have 2 featured lists, 3 good articles, and 10 did you knows? under my belt. I also have Major League Baseball currently nominated for GA. Anyway, besides article writing, I revert vandalism, patrol new pages, etc. I do have rollback rights on the English Wikipedia. I actively participate in WP:WikiProject The Simpsons and WP:WikiProject Baseball. My reason for nominating is I would like to help reduce backlogs, particularly for articles with a CSD tag. (Not just by deleting, but by sorting also) Thanks for the comments in advance. Have at me! LAAFansign review 21:35, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- I have decided to withdraw this RFA. I was going to let it sit, but, because of mounting opposition and per Xenocidic, I have decided to withdraw. Thank you to anyone who participated.--LAAFansign review 22:47, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Questions for the candidate
[edit]Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Wikipedia as an administrator. It is recommended that you answer these optional questions to provide guidance for participants:
- 1. What administrative work do you intend to take part in?
- A:Before I answer this, I would like to stress I would continue to work on articles. The administrative work I would participate in would be sorting articles for CSD. I would also continue to revert vandalism, which leads to WP:AIV Besides those two, I would occasionally help out at WP:RFPP and WP:AFD. If needed, I would help out anywhere needed, but I would start slowly, as I would have little or no experience in that area. So, in a nutshell, I would participate at Category:Candidates for speedy deletion, WP:AIV, WP:RFPP, and WP:AFD.
- 2. What are your best contributions to Wikipedia, and why?
- A: I am proud of my article work. I would have to say my best contributions would be Cy Young and Major League Baseball. I am proud of these two articles for two reasons. For one, I rigorously worked on them. My other reason is because those two article were of top importance within Wikiproject Baseball. By working on these, I feel was doing a service to Wikiproject Baseball.
- 3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
- A: Yes, I have been in two conflicts. I hate to admit this; but I was very disruptive when I was brand new to Wikipedia. See Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Fan/Wikipedia Welcome Squad and Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Sharkface217/Awards Center. (Be prepared to be horrified) In the first case, I took the MFD personally and eventually got into a scuffle with User:Lomn. I have reformed from those two instances. I have apologized for my actions in both instances, both the MFD page and on the talk pages of users I felt needed a formal apology. Since then, I have also yet to be in one argument. So, I ask, can I be forgiven for my newbie edits? I have grown since then. For proof, see Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:LAAFan/Wikipedia Welcome Squad, the second MFD of my Welcome Cabal.
Optional question from xenocidic
- 4. As an administrator, you will come across some extremely vulgar language and often come under attack for your actions. You will most likely have to deal with some fairly troublesome users. The users you block will sometimes ask to be unblocked. Please review the very NSFW scenario outlined at User:Xenocidic/RFAQ and describe how you would respond to the IP's request to be unblocked.
- A:Well, after looking through the contributions, I would have to say I would decline the unblock request. However, I would give the use a 2nd chance. I would do this because of the edit that the IP made 11:18, which appears to be constructive. If needed, I would get a 2nd opinion on this from another administrator.

Oppose
[edit]- Oppose per [1], [2], [3], [4] and most especially [5] and [6], all in the last few days. There's a difference between "reasonable deletionist" and "trigger happy and sloppy", and these were all way over that line; if you had a delete button, these articles would all now be redlinks and there'd be a reasonable chance their creators would have left Wikipedia in disgust. – iridescent 22:13, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Regretful oppose Candidate appears to be a decent contributor, but the diffs provided by Iridescent raise some concern. Also, this candidate does not meet my standards, specifically those relating to registered time as a Wikipedia user and main space edit count. Finally, for someone who has stated that they intend to spend time at AI/V, I would like to see more edits to that location prior to an RfA. I have no doubts that this candidate would make a quality administrator with a bit more experience, but I regretfully can not support at this time. --Winger84 (talk) 22:16, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose (2 ec) I was about to give a bunch of diffs, but Iridescent beat me to it. Overall I see way too much haste when tagging for speedy deletion, and I'm skeptical as to how you'd do with the delete button. This furthers my point. –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 22:19, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose per above --Admrb♉ltz (talk) 22:21, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Sorry, but I don't think you have enough experience in the admin-areas. Does your admin coach know about this? —Sunday Scribe 22:22, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Premature RFA, I'm afraid... I see you're being admin coached, but you haven't interacted with your mentor that much, nor did you ask them if s/he thought it was a good time to stand for RFA. Also per the diffs irid provided and your response. I would advise withdrawal at this time. FWIW, I do appreciate your willingness to provide the hypothetical user in Q4 a {{2nd chance}}. –xeno (talk) 22:25, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks for the compliment. However, I would like to state I would prefer this RFA not be closed prematurely, as I would like to "tough it out"--LAAFansign review 22:27, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Fair enough, but neglecting to withdraw in the face of mounting opposition may reflect poorly on you. Withdrawing with dignity rather than having your RFA snow-closed by a bureaucrat is the best bet. –xeno (talk) 22:40, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- Strong oppose; a cursory review of recent CSD taggings show less than 50% success rate— you desperately need to familiarize yourself with the speedy deletion criteria before you apply again because you are much too trigger-happy with the tagging— and that's coming for a renowned deletionist. Sorry, but you'll need a much better understanding of our policies before we hand you the bit. — Coren (talk) 22:28, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose per concerns from this discussion. While LAA later apologised for his actions and I accepted, I have concerns about such issues in an admin. Being an admin can be stressful and I don't think LAA Fan has shown s/he is ready. Also per concerns raised by Iri re: speedies, not yet experienced enough TravellingCari 22:29, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose A friendly and helpful user, but I'm not seeing administrator material at this point. Keepscases (talk) 22:31, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- (ec with the three above) Regretful Oppose. LAAFan appears to be a decent contributor, and the answers to the questions seem reasonable. The diffs provided by Iridescent seriously concern me, though. I wouldn't like to have an admin who, rather than thinking about speedy deletion, rashly assumed that articles like those should be deleted. Try again when you have more experience, especially with regard to deletion. Good answer to Q4, though. Bart133 t c @ How's my driving? 22:33, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose - Per concerns listed above along with the nom statement. Tiptoety talk 22:35, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose per your sloppy CSD tagging which makes me feel that you simply do not know deletion policy well enough to be given the buttons. Sorry. weburiedoursecretsinthegarden 22:35, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose - Tagging copyright violations for speedy deletion after corensearchbot without even bothering to look at the content? Sloppy Work. Wisdom89 (T / C) 22:41, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
