A meet-up (translation: last-minute, thrown-together and informal) Nashville Wiknic at Centennial Park was held on Saturday June 25, 2011, as part of the Great American Wiknic celebrations being held across the USA. It was a last-minute idea, so individuals were encouraged to consider themselves as organizers of the event. Five people said "yes" (by adding name below), crossing the threshold for the event to occur.

The event was planned to start at 1:00, but only two attendees were present until around 1:45. It was located in the Centennial Park, right next to the jet fighter/railway engine at the northwest end of the park, marked by a pink sign and a big tree with WIKI on it in masking tape. As a wiki-picnic, it was held as a potluck.

Event Report

[edit]

Despite the weather holding out fairly well, most people didn't arrive until quite a bit later than planned, and most had already eaten. People arrived and departed over time, with the total attendance being roughly about 16. Over half of that number were from a serendipitous and friendly pair of families who showed up and were welcomed to the picnic in fine wiki tradition. Others were still stopping by after 3pm, including a couple who drove in from about 100 miles away, full of questions about Wikipedia and wikis in general.

Definitely attending

While I'm not really a Wikipedian, I am heavily involved in WikiSpot and the LocalWiki.org project, which puts me in the category of, "or if you are otherwise involved with free content." --Evan 'JabberWokky' Edwards, but really Evan 'JabberWokky' Edwards at GnomeHQ and Evan 'JabberWokky' Edwards at Davis Wiki

Sounds fun, I'll plan to be there. Will try to bring some food and such as well. -Chris
