Please join Wikipedia Connection, a student organization at the Ohio State University, for a fun, inclusive one-day event that brings together diverse communities to create and improve Wikipedia articles related to women in the arts. Despite its wide reach, Wikipedia suffers from a severe gender imbalance: since most editors are men, articles conform to men's interests and perspectives. In an effort to change this, we are gathering diverse women and allies together to celebrate women's cultural achievements and discuss openly ongoing challenges caused by structural sexism

Learn more about the gender gap at WikiProject Women and Gender Bias on Wikipedia, and learn more about the Art Feminism campaign on their page.

Food, refreshments, and raffle prizes will be available. Please take a few seconds to RSVP, either here or by signing your name in the section below. Anyone with an interest in the cause and editing is welcome to join - no prior editing experience is required! Please be aware of our Safe Space Policy.

  • Date: Saturday, March 5, 2016
  • Time: 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm
  • Location: Central Colloquium Space (3rd floor) of the 18th Avenue Library, Ohio State University, 175 West 18th Avenue, Columbus, OH 43210

  • Who should participate:
    • Everyone is welcome! While this event takes place on campus and is run by a university student organization, you do not have to be affiliated with the Ohio State University to attend. We welcome students, faculty, staff, and Wikipedians from all around the area to join us, regardless of skill level. Women are particularly encouraged to attend, along with anyone with a background, focus, or interest in art (painting, writing, culture, etc.).
  • What to expect:
    • The event will begin with a presentation of Wikipedia's gender-inbalance, and a quick guide to editing. This is a casual drop-in event. Participants are encouraged to stay for as long as they wish. Food, snacks, and refreshments will be provided, along with some goodies.
    • No Wikipedia editing experience necessary; tutorials will be provided for Wikipedia newcomers. If you are unfamiliar with Wikipedia, it's easy to get started with this guided tutorial. Experienced editors will be providing help with editing throughout the event.
  • Cost: Free (please register below!)
  • Hosts: Wikipedia Connection organizers with support from Ohio State's Libraries
  • Social media hashtag: #ArtAndFeminism
