Event information
[edit]On Friday 8th March 2019 – on the International Women’s Day – Swathi Sriram and Kirsten Palz will host this year’s Art Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon for Berlin. Edit-a-thons will take place during the month of March at hundreds of institutions across the globe.
What is Art Feminism?
[edit]Art Feminism is a campaign improving coverage of cis and transgender women, non-binary folks, feminism and the arts on Wikipedia. It is a do-it-yourself and do-it-with-others campaign teaching people of all gender identities and expressions to edit Wikipedia.
Why are we here?
[edit]We’re here because less than 10% of editors on Wikipedia are women
Wikipedia is the largest and most popular general reference work on the internet with more than 40 million articles in more than 250 different languages. The fact is when we don’t tell our stories or participate in the ways our history is preserved, it gets erased. Gaps in the coverage of knowledge about women, gender, feminism, and the arts on one of the most visited websites in the world is a big problem and we need your help to fix it.
2019 marks the sixth year of our campaign. Our project is about creating material on Wikipedia that people can use to learn the real history of gender, feminism, and the arts.
What is it about?
[edit]The Art Feminism Edit-a-thon in Berlin is open to all languages and people from all backgrounds. Most importantly, no prior experience is needed.
What to expect?
[edit]There will be an introduction to the editing process and we will help you individually on the Wikipedia entries.
What do you have to do?
[edit]If you know any artists, scholars, authors, dancers, performers, actors, musicians or composers who need Wikipedia entries, join us on International Women's Day. You can work alone or in teams to write about someone you think needs to be on Wikipedia.
Please bring a laptop and power cord with you.
