Nominator's rationale: There isn't really a clear difference between these two categories, as all documents are records and are technically historical by way of history being a way in which knowledge is recorded by writing. Furthermore, everything in the "lost documents" section appear to be texts of some degree of historical significance/interest to begin with, which further obscures the need for "historical records" being a separate category. The result of the discussion was: rename (merge "Walla Walla"). (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 17:17, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: These are broad categories including culture, history, people, descent, etc. Renaming the categories also avoids confusion in cases where there are multiple recognized tribes. William Allen Simpson (talk) 04:23, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@William Allen Simpson: I can't see anything with which to populate the Walla Walla parent category, so I'd still upmerge that one. For Mono, Category:Mono people (United States) would be unambiguous and consistent with naming policy; there do not seem to be any biographies competing for the "people" category name. If Category:Seneca people (currently used for biographies) is renamed to Category:Seneca people (individuals), then Category:Seneca tribe can move to Category:Seneca people. – Fayenatic London 16:08, 10 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Fayenatic london: OK, modified above. Category:Mono (United States) If no content for Category:Walla Walla (tribe), then upmerge. Leave Category:Walla Walla people biographies. Also, leave Category:Seneca people biographies. What's wrong with Category:Seneca for the tribe?
William Allen Simpson (talk) 04:18, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Because Seneca is highly ambiguous, and I would expect the primary meaning to be Category:Seneca the Younger (known mononymously as Seneca). – Fayenatic London 08:27, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Fayenatic london: this must be an example of WP:ENGVAR education. The WP:PRIMARYTOPIC should be the tribe, with so many places named after them. The perfidious Seneca are the first natives that American schoolchildren are taught to hate (followed by Comanches and Apaches) from an early age. They sided with the British, and blocked the Erie Canal, so they had to be "removed." Meanwhile, I don't recall learning about Seneca the Younger (or his father) at all. At university, we spent considerable time on Cicero because of his influence on Jeffersonian democracy.
William Allen Simpson (talk) 15:06, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Could be. As a boy, I had a colouring book about Native Americans; I remember Apache, Cheyenne and Comanche, but don't remember knowing there was a Seneca people. There has not been a PRIMARYTOPIC at the disambiguation page Seneca except from 2013 [1] until 2014 [2] when it was Seneca the Younger. – Fayenatic London 15:40, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Fayenatic london: Those are all western tribes, later conflicts, Cowboys and Indians. We were taught the Seneca viciously attacked the Huron and ethnically cleansed them. I'm from Michigan near the Huron River west of Lake Huron, so maybe that's regional instruction. In part that's the justification for "removing" the Seneca. When children are taught about the French and Indian Wars and the American Revolutionary War, we learn that the Seneca were allies of George Washington during the former, then betrayed him in the latter. There are books and films, 19th century romanticised white savior drama. Anyway, I'd oppose Seneca the Younger as primary topic. According to the current article, The tribe's name has no logical connection with the ancient Roman statesmen.... There is a moon crater and asteroid named after him (and other philosophers), but most place names are about the Seneca people.

Nominator's rationale: WP:SMALLCAT for just three alumni of a high school. As always, every high school that exists does not automatically get one of these as a matter of course -- they're fine if there are a lot of notable alumni of that high school, but not just if there are only two or three, and checking the school's "what links here" didn't turn up anybody else that could be added. Then, for no apparent reason, it's also filed as a subcategory of Category:Ministers' Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School alumni, despite the school's article not containing any indication of what would make Minister's Hill and Minister's Not-Hill two separate things for the purposes of needing two separate categories, and of Category:Ministers' Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School, which exists only to sit between the underpopulated alumni category and the category for the town the high school is in -- which means that neither of those categories are necessary either. Nominator's rationale: WP:SMALLCAT for just two districts. Wikipedia does not currently have any scheme of subdividing Category:Districts of Rwanda by individual province, and even if that were desirable this would not be the category's correct name anyway. Nominator's rationale: WP:SMALLCAT for a former small community which is now just an area within a larger (but still relatively) small town rather than its own thing. There are just two articles here, but there would have to be a lot more than just two articles to file here before a dedicated category was justified. Bearcat (talk) 17:21, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You don't get to create a small underpopulated category first and then claim you're going to create content to populate it later. That's not how this works: you create the content first, and then you can come back and create a category to hold the content after the content already exists. Bearcat (talk) 17:38, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Again, didn't no that, nor does it clearly mention that it is against the rules. I didn't think it would let me do something that is wrong. it allowed me, so I went with it. DRS311 (talk) 18:12, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Eponymous category for a smalltown church without the volume of spinoff content needed to justify an eponymous category. All that's here is the head article, one biography of one person who was once rector of it (but that's not what he's primarily notable for, and thus including him is the religious equivalent of a WP:PERFCAT), and one photograph, which is not sufficient to render a smalltown church as being in need of its own dedicated category. We do not mix articles with photographs in articlespace categories. There may be an "images of X" category for only the photographs with no articles, or an "X" category for only articles with no photographs, but there cannot be a mix of both articles and photographs in the same category. And it doesn't matter how many photos you've uploaded, either — it matters how many photos you've actually filed in the category, and there's only one photograph filed in the category. And also, furthermore, we do not upload duplicate copies to Wikipedia of photos that you've already uploaded as CC to Commons — we just directly use the Commons copy itself. Bearcat (talk) 17:34, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't know that sorry, it does not say not to mix articles and photographs. my apologies. they should make that clearer, thank you. DRS311 (talk) 18:07, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Eponymous category for a small community (pop. 3K) without sufficient content to justify an eponymous category. As always, every place that exists does not automatically get one of these as a matter of course -- it's warranted if there are a lot of things to file in it, but not if there are only one or two. And for added bonus, Cutchogue, New York isn't even its own standalone town anyway -- it's merely a community within the town of Southold, which already has its own, much better populated Category:Southold, New York that these two articles can be filed in without needing a special layer of Cutchogue categorization. Nominator's rationale: Wikipedia does not do "residents of X" as a separate category tree from "people from X". The people-from tree is not applied solely on the basis of birthplace alone, such that a person who lived in Lagos somehow couldn't be categorized as "people from Lagos" if he or she wasn't actually born there -- they're applied solely on the basis of "lived in Lagos for long enough to have that be relevant to mention in their article at all, regardless of whether they were born there or not", meaning that there's no category-worthy distinction between "people from" and "residents of" at all. Nominator's rationale: Eponymous category for a writer, without the volume of spinoff content needed to justify an eponymous category. As always, every writer who has a Wikipedia article does not automatically get one of these as a matter of course -- it's done for writers who have a lot of related content to categorize outside of the established "Works by..." scheme that already exists (e.g. Category:William Shakespeare), but is not automatically created just to hold "Works by head article".
The category formerly included images of his book covers (which as non-free content can't be galleried in categories that mix them with articles) and a dedicated "Shahidul Zahir template" category that existed solely to contain the {{Shahidul Zahir}} navbox (but navboxes don't get their own dedicated "[person the navbox is for] template" categories either, except maybe in the rare case that there are several related but distinct navboxes for different aspects of the person's notability that need to be grouped together). So those have been removed as inappropriate entries, but that means all that's left is "Works by head article", which isn't enough. Bearcat (talk) 16:22, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: recent proliferation of tiny categories with unusual and irrelevant hierarchical organization. Wikipedia:Category naming does not provide for by region encapsulating by country.
Summary: Trivial intersection between occupation and ancestors' nationality. These are not harmless as these "regional" subcategories are also a proxy for race, and are understood that way. Continuing removals after categories were emptied by previous discussions.
