The result of the discussion was: merge all. (non-admin closure) DannyS712 (talk) 02:34, 31 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Propose merging:
Nominator's rationale: Pointless category layer. In each case, the only parent category is the merge target listed above.
Each "Cat:YYY0s films by year" can only ever contain ten category pages. e.g. Category:1950s films by year can only ever contain Category:1950 films, Category:1951 films ... Category:1959 films.
The only case I can see for keeping these categories would be if it helped organise the parent decade category, but it doesn't. The largest "Category:YYY0s films" is Category:2010s films, which currently has 54 subcats. Adding a further nine subcats (i.e. one per each of the tens year, minus the deleted container) won't overload Category:2010s films, and the years will sort neatly at the start of the list. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 18:21, 5 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Contributor's rationale: The point of decade-by-year categories and their navigation templates is to help users do historical surveys. —Coder Dan (talk) 20:01, 5 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Coder Dan, how is that aided by a decade-by-year category rather than just a decade category?
For example, how does Category:1900s films by year help historical surveys in a way which cannot be done (or not done as well) by Category:1900s films. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:58, 5 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: WP:NONDEFINING category - type of headlamp is not a common way to categorize a car (such as classification or body style). Vossanova o< 14:41, 5 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Creator's rationale: - I see what you're saying. My rebuttal though is that there are numerous other categories which group vehicles/cars with notable technical features or design elements and they seem to have proved themselves relevant. For instance "Automobiles with gull-wing doors", "Automobiles with backbone chassis", "Vehicles with four-wheel steering", "Vehicles with CVT transmission", and "Vehicles with wheel motors". Many of those articles have been around for over 10 years (since 2008), and even the newest created, "Vehicles with backbone chassis" has been around for 2 years and so have proved to have staying power. They all tackle niche, yet notable features, gull-wing doors, four-wheel steering, CVT transmissions, etc, that don't fit into a common categorization (classification, body style) and that people are likely to be interested in. I see no reason why hidden headlamps wouldn't be at least as relevant, if not possibly more, than those features. Thank you for your consideration. TKOIII (talk) 15:25, 5 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
WP:OSE. DexDor (talk) 21:47, 6 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Understandable, but other design features, like type of door, shouldn't really be categorized as well, for the same non-defining reason. I would instead suggest such categories be converted/merged into lists (see WP:CPN). --Vossanova o< 16:46, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: WP:OCEPON --woodensuperman 12:54, 5 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
We don't need an eponymous category that only contains a works category. The dozens of articles and subcats are correctly in the works tree, this does not add anything. --woodensuperman 09:15, 15 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It adds a substantial category to Category:Wikipedia categories named after English writers. Oculi (talk) 16:37, 15 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
By that reckoning, everyone with works in Category:Works by English writers should have an eponymous categories, which is clearly against the spirit of WP:OCEPON. --woodensuperman 16:57, 15 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
