Automatic, Supervised, or Manual: Automatic
Programming language(s): Python mwclient mwparserfromhell
Source code available: on github
Function overview: Adds url
parameter to {{cite web}} templates that include archiveurl
, but not url
.
Links to relevant discussions (where appropriate): Wikipedia:Bot_requests#Archiveurl_bot
Edit period(s): Daily
Estimated number of pages affected: Roughly the number of pages in Category:Pages with archiveurl citation errors
Exclusion compliant (Yes/No): No
Already has a bot flag (Yes/No): Yes
Function details: Uses Category:Pages with archiveurl citation errors as a generator. For articles containing the archiveurl part of the cite web template, but not having the regular url part (which is required, or else it generates an error), the bot adds a url tag by grabbing the archiveurl, stripping out the archive bit of that url, and then copying it into the url tag. Here's an example.
Discussion
[edit]- As the person who requested this bot, obviously I support this becoming a proper one. I've seen it a few times where people haven't put the url in, and anything that gets rid of those bright red errors is good for me! Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 06:58, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
