RE: Resent edits to List of Take-Two Interactive video games

[edit]

The iFruit app is a companion app for GTA V, this app allow you to connect to your game on GTA V and allows you customize you cars, characters etc, through this app on iOS. You also need GTA V and a RSSC account to run this app meaning it's not a standalone game, it might have a little game elements but is no means a game. Information icon Hello, I'm 2Awwsome. I noticed that you recently removed some content from List of circulating currencies without explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry: I restored the removed content. If you would like to experiment, you can use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks! 2AwwsomeTell me where I screwed up. See where I screwed up 19:15, 16 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! There is a DR/N request you may have interest in.

[edit]

This message is being sent to let you know of a discussion at the Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard regarding a content dispute discussion you may have participated in. Content disputes can hold up article development and make editing difficult for editors. You are not required to participate, but you are both invited and encouraged to help find a resolution. The thread is "Highest-valued currency unit". Please join us to help form a consensus. Thank you! EarwigBot operator / talk 18:20, 24 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Howdy there, could I ask for your assistance?

[edit]

I am nervous about user Ruby Murray and an article I follow and occasionally update. The article is the Anthony holland composer biography. Living. Ruby Murray is edit warring with me and when I check his user page I see that he has a habit of it...and he or she also seems as though they often get other users in trouble. I don't know if I should request for comment or ask for a third opinion or what. I know I'd like a little help with our dispute and it is the integrity of the article that should take precedent.

I don't want to get into trouble...I am already sick and tired of rubes passive aggressive threats..I would like to resolve our conflict but I am not sure how to do it... So think you can help the holland article and maybe help me stay out of trouble. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.200.208.230 (talk) 14:36, 28 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Edits to "My Chemical Romance discography"

[edit]

Hello Zntrip, it's alright about the revert. You're right on both aspects, I was busy trying unify it and hadn't noticed the redundancy until you pointed it out. The tables look better now with the set width.

P.S. Love the MCR taskforce's work on Black Parade, great article (and album). Best, yeepsi (Talk tonight) 21:43, 1 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you seem to be a major contributor to the SCLC scene and I don't really know who else to go to so I figured I might as well come here! I want to create a separate page for the trial of Charles Taylor in the SCLC and I was wondering if that would be kosher with you. If not I could also lengthen his section on the SCLC page, but I'm rather new to the Wikipedia scene and I'm looking to help! Thanks for any help. pettyn (talk) 6:40, 7 January 2014 (UTC)

Re: New Page for Charles Taylor

[edit]

Thanks so much for the quick response and the welcome! I would absolutely love help on this project, even if it's just adding some formatting edits here and there or adding more substantial content. I am going to be finding more sources over the next few weeks and would really like to start up a new page. If I end up falling flat on my further research I will add the content I do find towards the current article on the SCLC page. Thanks again for the quick reply! pettyn (talk) 6:47, 7 January 2014 (UTC)

[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Asylum Entertainment, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page A&E (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Lego: The Hobbit

[edit]

Hey Zntrip. In my edit summary here I didn't really have room to explain the issue sufficiently. The issue is that while the article is currently poorly titled, it would appear that the move request to the Lego The Hobbit (video game) would also result in a bad title. We never use parenthetical disambiguators like "(video game)" unless there is an existing article at a confusingly similar title title that we need to disambiguate the title from. See WP:PRECISION and WP:DAB. Likely the article should be moved to just Lego: The Hobbit, or maybe Lego The Hobbit or possibly something else, but there there does not appear to be any disambiguation purpose for "(video game)". Main Page appearance

[edit]

Hello! This is a note to let know the main editors of the article List of circulating currencies that it will be appearing as the main page featured list on March 28, 2014. You can view the TFL blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured list/March 28, 2014. If you think it is necessary to change the main date, you can request it with the featured list directors Giants2008 (talk · contribs), Crisco 1492 (talk · contribs) or SchroCat (talk · contribs), or at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured list. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions of the suggested formatting. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. In this article you changed the format. It looks great BTW. The reason I'm here however is that you removed entries related to the Eritrean–Ethiopian War. Just two entries that is. However as you did it while reformating there is no apparent reason for the removal and I saw nothing on the talk page. I'm curious about the reason you choose to remove them.Serialjoepsycho (talk) 07:47, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with your position. I actually added one of those to balance the other. I just though would of course be necessary to have a record for the reason of removal.Serialjoepsycho (talk) 00:59, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Nirvana songs

[edit]

Hi, I noticed your work on List of songs recorded by Nirvana and just wanted to point out that there are still loads from In Utero deluxe/super deluxe that are missing from the article. Such as from disc one the bonus tracks: Sappy, Moist Vagina, IHMAWTD etc.. not to mention the demo recordings off disc two. QuintusPetillius (talk) 19:31, 6 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

ICC Article

[edit]

Thank you for your recent note on the talk page of the ICC article, and most especially for your expansion of the article in the jurisdiction section. As you will see when you have time to read the discussion through that my talk page note engendered, my concern is that the article currently does not adequately reflect the controversy regarding the Rome Statute, particularly regarding Article 12 which asserts that the ICC has jurisdiction over alleged crimes committed within the territory of a nation which is a party to the statute even if the alleged offending party or parties are from nations that are not parties to the statute.

From my research, it appears as if the Untied States rejects the validity of this assertion as an unilateral power grab not acceded to by our government, and perhaps other nations (I don’t know) make the same argument. What follows are two articles. One is a thorough review of the issue from a U. S. legal standpoint while the second is the official rejection of the ICC’s jurisdiction over U. S. citizens rendered in 2002 under the administration of President Bush the younger. I am uncertain if anything substantive has changed under the Obama Administration.

http://scholarlycommons.law.case.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1256&context=faculty_publications

http://2001-2009.state.gov/p/us/rm/9949.htm

I realize that it is presumptions of me to ask you to address this issue. However, as you are a senior editor and administrator and one well-versed in the issue of international law and such considerations, coupled with the fact that I have experienced vision problems of late, compels me to at least ask you for your kind assistance in this matter.

Please understand that I am not suggesting that the requested addition be anything other than objective. I simply would like it pointed out that there is such controversy concerning the legitimacy of this tribunal in certain situations and the possible resulting conflict such might engender.

Thank you once again and best wishes.HistoryBuff14 (talk) 13:52, 29 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for your courteous reply. It’s most appreciated.
As I said, I’m having vision problems right now while recovering from cataract surgery. I see all right, but my eyes tire easily which is why I just skimmed the article I presented to you for your consideration. However, I was aware what the author’s conclusion was. I also noted that it was thorough and presented arguments on both side of this question.
If you have the time to add the position of the United States under your suggested criticism section, that would be most appreciated as well.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

I know as well as you do that Turkish soldiers were(and still are) guarding the tomb. What I insisted was to stick to what we had cited originally, even if it turned out to be fault. No need to become upset. I undid your changes for several reasons: #1 you inserted a number of broken references; #2 the references were not to reliable sources (wikis are not reliable sources); #3 you made a number of improper format changes, such as adding links and references to section titles. – Zntrip 01:05, 8 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

ICC map (2)

[edit]

Hello Zntrip, thanks for updating the map "File:ICC member states world map.png" to include El Salvador. But I wonder: why have you made it light green rather than dark green? Apparently, now that this country has deposited the instrument of accession to the Rome Statute, it has become a state party to the International Criminal Court immediately. As you can see here on the ICC's website, the ICC has included El Salvador in the number of states parties, which number it lists as 124 now.

By the way, could you tell me how such a map can be updated? Best regards, Paul K. (talk) 00:36, 6 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Zntrip, I regret that this still has not been adjusted, the colour of El Salvador is still light green. This was probably right at that time, but here [1] you can see that El Salvador became a full state party already in 2016. I have no idea how this can be adjusted on this map, but apparently you know how to do this. Can I request that you do this? Thanks. Paul K. (talk) 19:13, 27 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Paul K.: Hi Paul! The easiest way to edit the file is to use Microsoft Paint. It's very easy to copy the color you want with the Color Picker tool and use the Fill with Color tool to change the color. I'll go ahead and update the file for you. You may want to consider switching over to File:ICC member states.svg. That map has a different color for states which have "un-signed" the Rome Statute and it is updated regularly. – Zntrip 02:50, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Environmental Crimes

[edit]

Hi, any suggestion as to where one puts the paragraph for environmental crimes in ICC article? Looks like it is a pretty notable development and deserves a note.Sattar91 (talk) 08:16, 21 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Sattar91: I'm not so sure that this is indeed a notable development. The Policy Paper on Case Selection and Prioritisation mentions that both the "manner of commission of the crimes" and "impact of the crimes" will be assessed when selecting cases, and "destruction of the environment" is one factor is both of those considerations. – Zntrip 17:29, 21 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the feedback. I am going to explain the importance of the case a bit more, so that we may agree on forward-editing of the article. To start, the publication of this Policy Paper is a big news per se and many have been impatiently awaiting that after all the discussions and efforts to make the vague language of environmental protection slightly clearer in the same document back in November 2013.
Ever since the climate change issues have become visible, lots of campaigning have been going on requesting the Prosecutor to mention environmental crimes in the Policy Paper and consequently follow up such cases that are considered major threads in peace time. The efforts turned to be meaningfully oriented and heated after the 2015 Paris Conference. When the draft of the Policy Paper was published in last February, some were partly disappointed as to have little direct mentions of environmental crimes in the document. In article #40 it could read as: "The impact of the crimes may be assessed in light of, inter alia, the suffering endured by the victims and their increased vulnerability, the terror subsequently instilled, or the social, economic and environmental damage inflicted on the affected communities". It was a good development comparing to the trivial mention of environment in the 2013 document, but still not good enough. The pressure was kept high then and lobbying/campaigning were going on; and the result was that the article #41 in the final Policy Paper (the one you referred to) now reads as: "The impact of the crimes may be assessed in light of, inter alia, the increased vulnerability of victims, the terror subsequently instilled, or the social, economic and environmental damage inflicted on the affected communities. In this context, the Office will give particular consideration to prosecuting Rome Statute crimes that are committed by means of, or that result in, inter alia, the destruction of the environment, the illegal exploitation of natural resources or the illegal dispossession of land". So as you observe, there is an obvious shift towards the environmental crimes when looking at the trend of the policies between November 2013 and September 2016.
I hope the explanation sounds convincing to you that this was actually a notable movement, a major shift (Reuters), a change of focus (Guardian), a move with significant effects (Washington Post) and a powerful environmental message (Independent). If you agree, let's find a proper place in the article to add this up. Thanks- Sattar91 (talk) 08:34, 22 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Sattar91: I think it's important to understand the role played by a policy paper and to not give a subject undue weight. A policy paper does not give the Court jurisdiction over a new category of crimes, it only promises that the Prosecutor will consider environmental destruction and land grabbing when selecting cases. It is actually quite similar to how the Prosecutor already considers sexual and gender-based violence. The media coverage of this announcement seems to be due solely by the publicity efforts of Global Diligence LLP and Global Witness, which have an interest in advocating for alleged victims of land grabbing and therefore some media outlets appears to be greatly exaggerating the effect of the policy paper. Note that The Washington Post states that "the ICC's shift seemed to be more subtle" and quotes Alex Whiting, a well known international law professor, who states: "They aren't changing the definitions of crimes or expanding the law or creating new crimes or anything like that. . . . They are paying particular attention to crimes that are committed by use of environmental impact or have consequences of environmental impact." That said, I think this information should be included in the article, but it must properly placed, well explained, and given proper weight. – Zntrip 18:11, 22 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I do agree that it is not a change in jurisdiction or a new definition of crimes, but rather an expansion of the coverage and a special focus. I also agree that the text should have the proper intonation not to be exaggerating on what's going to happen from now on. Should we include a brief paragraph at the end of International_Criminal_Court#Jurisdiction_and_admissibility entitled "Focus on environmental crimes"?Sattar91 (talk) 08:16, 23 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Sattar91: After looking at the article, I believe the best place to mention this would be under the "Office of the Prosecutor" section. – Zntrip 20:27, 23 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, it is partly done now. Can you have a look and feedback?--Sattar91 (talk) 09:10, 11 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Sattar91: The addition looks very nice! The only thing missing is a mention of environmental crimes, of course, from the latest policy paper. – Zntrip 22:36, 11 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Done :). --Sattar91 (talk) 12:30, 12 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not blank reliable sources, as you did in this edit. If you have concerns about a source, take it to the talk page. ICC and Complementarity:

[edit]

Hello Zntrip! Admittedly I am not a regular edtior but I have noticed that the wiki page on the International Criminal Court could be greatly improved expecially as far as the principles of complementarity and gravity are concerned. For the gravity issue there are a couple of recent Oxford University articles I was thinking of putting itno the page. As far as complementarity is concerned, I removed the author's name as initially suggested by you but left all the relevant information which also linked to TWO other wiki pages and leading authorities on this field (e.g. William Schabas); two external links to the authorities scientific work were also included.

So I don't see why the old Wiki version you are suggesting is any way better in comparison to the new version, since:

(1) the old version is extremely short for such a critical issue of international justice (2) essentially, the old version does not contain any significant information other that what is written in the ICC constitution. (3)the new version on complementarity offers much more substantial information and updates properly the Wiki page regarding extremely recent theoretical and practical developments with links to other wiki pages and external links for scientific articles.

In any case, I believe that we could at least agree that the Old version needs improvement and if you wish you could write about it.

I thought it would be BEST if I discussed these issues with you first before updating the ICC Gravity Section as well, following a copule of recent Oxford Univeristy articles and after taking also into account that there currently exist only two lines for this crucial criterion too!

P.S. Another suggestion could be to move this section to the Criticism Chapter!  :-)

2019 US Banknote Contest

[edit]
US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here

A tag has been placed on Template:To icon requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion because it is an unused duplicate of another template, or a hard-coded instance of another template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is not actually the same as the other template noted, please consider putting a note on the template's page explaining how this one is different so as to avoid any future mistakes.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. –MJLTalk 17:17, 14 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wikidata?

[edit]

What are your thoughts about using Wikidata items in Wikipedia, especially in articles on law?

Wikidata seems to me to be quite useful in that I can create a Wikidata item for a source I want, e.g., Judge Julie A. Robinson (18 June 2018), Findings of fact and conclusions of law in Fish v. Kobach (PDF), Wikidata Q97940156. Then each time I want to cite that source, it's as easy as finding it in Wikidata and using Template:Cite Q, as, e.g., {{cite Q|Q97940156}}<!-- Findings of fact and conclusions of law in Fish v. Kobach (Q97940156) -->.

Creating a Wikidata item is more work than creating a single citation. However, if I cite that source in more than one article, I think I get better, more complete and more easily maintained references by using Wikidata. This is particularly true with link rot: If one web link is no longer valid, only the Wikidata entry needs to be changed to correct all the references that use that Wikidata entry. Without that, the link would have to be fixed separately in every article that cites that source.

I'm currently working to improve the Wikipedia article on Fish v. Kobach. This case had two appeals (that I know of) plus a third just filed a couple of days ago. It occurs to me that it might be good to have one Wikidata entry for the case in the United States District Court for the District of Kansas and one more for each appeal to the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit plus separate Wikidata entries for each document that someone wants to cite separately.

I've asked about this on Wikidata:Wikidata:Project chat#legal case with multiple appeals. Sadly, I have not gotten a reply there, and I felt a need to also ask here.

Comments? Thanks, DavidMCEddy (talk) 02:51, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@DavidMCEddy: I do not have much experience with Wikidata, but I think that your approach should be no different from any other source you want to cite. I think one thing that may be helpful is to not think of a case as the source you are citing. You cannot cite different "parts" of a case like pages of a book. The actual source is a filing made in the case, whether it is a brief filed by a party, the judgment of the district court, an interlocutory appeals decision, or a final appeal decision. – Zntrip 05:51, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Zntrip: Thanks very much for the reply. Might you know anyone with Wikiproject Law with experience with Wikidata or who might be willing to help develop procedures for using Wikidata within Wikiproject law where such procedures may not have been developed yet?
I have no substantive legal training, not counting a few workshops for university researchers and journalists on intellectual property law. Fish v. Kobach is one case in the District of Kansas with three appeals to the 10th Circuit court. I'm somewhat familiar with PACER / RECAP / CourtListener. I've used that to learn about and acquire documents in the district court and the first two appeals. (I know a third appeal has been filed, but I'm not sure how to find that case in the 10th circuit. I haven't looked hard, but it was not trivial to find.)
Wikidata has seemed to me to be quite valuable, and it has seemed like I should take the time to try to do a good job with this, rather than just charge blindly ahead and do something to achieve what I want with that one article. Thanks, DavidMCEddy (talk) 06:48, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@DavidMCEddy: Unfortunately, I don't know of anyone who might be able to help you out. Wikidata in general is something with which I only have very limited experience, and I'm not active on any project pages. I think your issue really involves a larger discussion on how citations in general can or should be done on Wikipedia. I image there are many sources (e.g. peer reviewed studies, investigative reporting, primary sources) that can benefit from Wikidata integration, but I don't know if there has been discussion about this. I would ask around on some project pages, or maybe try to track down some very active users, but if that doesn't work, I would suggest you do what feels right, see how it is received, and make adjustments as necessary. – Zntrip 08:24, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Zntrip: Thanks again. I'm out of time, so I will do something. One of my first managers at age 24 fresh out of college as a Lieutenant in the US Air Force was a Lieutenant Colonel. One day after reading a letter I had written for his signature, he looked at me with a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face and said, "I'm going to do something, even if it's wrong!"
Sometimes we have to do that, just to get anything done. That can be critical in combat, because if you stay put too long, the enemy might more easily destroy you than if you keep moving! DavidMCEddy (talk) 13:47, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

American politics discretionary sanctions notice

[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in post-1932 politics of the United States and closely related people. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

November 2020

[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on 2020 United States presidential election in California; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. ― Tartan357 (Talk) 02:15, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

December 2020

[edit]

Hi I was just wondering on the My Chemical Romance discography page why you kept changing the certification names back to country names. For example the official music certification for the UK is BPI. Wouldn’t it make more sense to just put the official music certification names instead of countries? Jordantrsonlychild (talk) 13:41, 21 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Jordantrsonlychild: Hi and thanks for reaching out. The abbreviations of the certification industries are not well known and do not correspond to the name of the country. For example, I believe most readers would know that "CAN" means "Canada", but I doubt many would know "MC" stands for "Music Canada". For that reason, I think the country where the certification was awarded is more important that the name of the organization. – Zntrip 03:32, 22 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for getting back. I understand the lint you’re making and it’s a good one. It’s just that I’ve seen other artist page with the organization name than the country name. Again thanks for getting back Jordantrsonlychild (talk) 22:57, 22 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I meant to say *point not lint Jordantrsonlychild (talk) 20:05, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Jordantrsonlychild: No worries. Would you have any objections if I edited the article to use the country abbreviations? – Zntrip 03:22, 24 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Apostille convention

[edit]

He Zntrip, I saw you additions to the Apostille convention, which I find in general an improvement. I notice China is stil missing the specifications that it applies to Hongkong and Macao, but I assume the notes-section is going to show that. However, I wonder if you'll also re-introduce the objections of states to new-states that result in non-application between those states? L.tak (talk) 22:22, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@L.tak: Yes, I'm adding notes regarding that, territorial applications, and state succession. I'm actually working on it right now, and I should have added an under construction template to the section. Apologies for the confusion. – Zntrip 22:32, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, I hardly use the template ever ;-)... good luck with the notes! L.tak (talk) 22:56, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@L.tak: Ok, I'm all done. The notes drove me crazy and I feel like I probably messed a few things up. If you have any free time, I would appreciate a quick review for any errors. – Zntrip 01:20, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I can imagine those footnotes are a hassle. I think it is ok and consistent. What is not in are the notes with regards to the objecting nations (eg with Germany), but I suppose there is more than enough info in this table, so I'd leave it as is now. Thanks for the work! My Chemical Romance discography

[edit]

Hello. I see that you're the editor who re-introduced unsourced sales and country initialisms instead of the initialisms for the certifying body on the discography. Firstly, certifications do not and never have equated to actual sales. Obviously a large portion of the certifying figure is sales. However, primarily before the digital era cut into physical sales, these figures regularly included potentially thousands of copies shipped to stores that had not and may never have been sold. Certification thresholds have now been changed in the streaming era to include a certain amount of streams equating to one unit, which now counts towards certifications that record labels can apply for. These are obviously not sales and should not be indicated as such. Regardless, I'm very confused as to why an established editor like yourself is introducing unsourced claims on any article. Unless the sales have actual reliable sources, the column should not be included whatsoever.

Secondly, my edit unifying the initialisms used to the certifying body in 2019 stood for over a year without question, so I would think WP:BRD applies. WP:DISCOGSTYLE, while an essay and not an adopted policy, is the standard now for discographies that editors have attempted to follow since it was written. If it's not "reader friendly" in your opinion, I would point to the fact that on first instance, the initialism is linked and readers can click through to or hover over the link (depending on their configuration) to find out which country it applies to. Talk:My Chemical Romance and Talk:My Chemical Romance discography would be better places to ask or propose how we format the discography and what is more helpful instead of changing it back without explanation after a year. Or better yet, if you think the whole project would benefit from adapting to your point of view, propose it at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Discographies or another music talk page that gets more attention like Wikipedia talk:Record charts. Thanks. Ss112 07:49, 9 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Ss112: Thank you for contacting me regarding your edits and concerns related the article in question. While I do not necessarily agree with all of your arguments, I do see our differences as primarily a disagreement over style and not substance. I do appreciate that your point of view is coherent and cohesive, and because you clearly feel strongly about this, I have no intention of undoing your latest edits. Best regards, – Zntrip 04:28, 16 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Commons file "Monarchies of the world.PNG"

[edit]

Hi Zntrip, why is Afghanistan marked as a monarchy in your map? Greetings --Jossi (talk) 12:13, 11 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Jossi2: Hi Jossi! I haven't worked on that map in years. It looks like someone added Afghanistan in October 2021. Please review the file page at the Wikimedia Commons. – Zntrip 18:49, 11 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I didn't check the file history. I have now corrected it myself. Thank you --Jossi (talk) 19:31, 11 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

LA to FA 2022

Dear Zntrip,

You're invited to a zoom call, taking place on February 11, with the goal of improving the article on Los Angeles to Featured article status! I often find it daunting to approach the Big Subjects on my own—so if you, like me, want a time to sit down with fellow dedicated editors and tackle something important and complex, this is the zoom for you! I, unfortunately, have no way to transmit snacks over zoom; but I trust you to exercise good judgement and discretion in selecting snacks of your own. Hope to see you there—if you're interested, add your name here!

2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine

[edit]

In case you haven't started thinking about it yet, the task of encyclopedic tracking of publicly indicted war criminal suspects' cases risks expanding rapidly in the coming weeks, months, and years: War crimes in the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine#Legal proceedings. Iryna Venediktova already "has over 200 suspects, with material evidence of their alleged involvement", and universal jurisdiction cases are likely to expand in number too. It's difficult to predict how much the current editing enthusiasm will continue on a long time scale, though in the case of the COVID-19 pandemic, it does appear that people have been motivated to keep updating the articles for individual countries/sub-country regions (typically their own?) on a two-year time scale. Making includable templates would probably help, as for the ICTY, ICTR, ICC cases. I get the impression that the article universal jurisdiction for pre-2022-Russian-invasion cases is already starting to become incomplete in comparison to what has appeared in mainstream media articles (that article had a bad problem with copyvios that nobody noticed for quite some time). Bill Carmody Draft

[edit]

Hi! I see you are a member of WikiProject Law. I am seeking feedback on a draft I created about trial attorney Bill Carmody, of Susman Godfrey, who has been profiled in the press several times because of the size and prominence of his cases. I have explained more here: User talk:Backyard116/sandbox/Bill Carmody/Seeking feedback. He’s a personal connection of mine, so impartial advice on notability and neutral point of view would be greatly appreciated. Backyard116 (talk) 16:18, 10 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question about DCUAOM Edit

[edit]

Hi Zntrip, I was just wondering why Constantine: City of Demons does not count as a film for DC Universe Animated Original Movies. My understanding was that it started as a CW web series but then got turned into a feature-length film and is set in the DCAMU. Thanks. (Sorry for the many edits.) Along517 (talk) 13:24, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Along517: Thanks for reaching out. The film is not part of the series because it was never billed or advertised by Warner Bros. as being part of the series. If you can find a source, we could of course add it to the list. The series has only every been original straight-to-video films. There were several films that were originally released as web series on The CW that were never part of the film series, including Deathstroke: Knights & Dragons, Vixen, and Freedom Fighters: The Ray. – Zntrip 04:17, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Zntrip Thanks for the response. I'm not sure if this qualifies but Warner Bros did have a screening of it and described it as an original animated movie spinning off the CW digital series. Here's the writer also confirming that it is in the same world as Justice League Dark (film) which is in the DCAMU. Thanks. Along517 (talk) 18:00, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Along517:I am by no means the arbiter of what is and is not part of the series, but I don't think the source you provided actually references the film series. The films usually state "DC Universe Animated Original Movies" on the cover above the title. – Zntrip 07:10, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

End of Judge Mindua's term at the ICTY

[edit]

Hi – I'm glad to see you're still active here on the international judiciary (thanks for all your work!), as I'm trying to resolve an issue related to two edits you made a long time ago. I'm creating or improving infoboxes for all former ICC judges; I want to create one for Antoine Kesia-Mbe Mindua and I’m trying to establish the correct date for the end of his term of office at the ICTY. This is complicated by the fact that Judge Mindua continued to take part in the trial of Goran Hadžić at the ICTY after taking up his position and full-time work at the ICC and there was a dispute about his payment during the overlap.

In September 2016, after the Hadžić trial was terminated upon his death, you first made this edit, in which you added citations to all the column headings and apparently copied the "term ended" data for the three Hadžić judges (Mindua, Hall and Delvoie) from the "Former judges" page you cited. The date given there for Mindua is 30 April 2016. In this edit ten minutes later (with edit summary "fix") you changed that date from 30 April 2016 to 30 July 2016, the date given for the other two judges.

I believe this is correct, since Mindua served on the bench just like they did; his term of office had been extended by the Security Council in Resolution 2256 (2015), just like theirs, "until 31 October 2016 or until the completion of the cases to which they are or will be assigned, if sooner", and the fact that he also took up a full-time position elsewhere and the UN decided not to pay him for the overlapping work at the ICTY doesn't change the fact that he was in office and in fact taking part in a trial. The UNAT decision denying his appeal even cites the Registrar who denied the payment as referring to "the overlap of ICTY and ICC terms of office between May and July 2016", so apparently no-one denied that he was still in office at the ICTY in July.

I’m wondering, though, how best to support this with sources, despite the discrepancy with the ICTY source, without making it look like original research. I can see why you just wrote "fix" rather than delve into these (not terribly relevant) details, but it caused me to research the issue anew, and I'd like to add citations both in that table and in the article on Mindua. I'm thinking of adding an explanatory footnote explaining the overlap and citing the Security Council resolution and the UNAT decision. In the process I could also move the citation for the Burton Hall ad hoc appointment that’s currently in the column headings to an explanatory footnote, which I think is a better place for it, and then there wouldn't be just one lone explanatory footnote.

What do you think? Joriki (talk) 08:35, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Joriki: Thank you for all your work on these articles! I think that the actual date that Mindua's term ended is 22 July 2016. This appears true because that is the date referenced in the UNAT judgment, and it was the date on which the ICTY terminated the proceedings against Hadžić (see here). With respect to the ICTY article's list of judges, perhaps adding a new column for references would be easier than adding notes when there is a discrepancy with the ICTY's list and other sources. I don't think it would constitute original research to reference primary sources. "A primary source may be used on Wikipedia only to make straightforward, descriptive statements of facts that can be verified by any educated person with access to the primary source but without further, specialized knowledge" (see WP:PRIMARY). I think that is exactly what you would be doing. – Zntrip 06:25, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Zntrip Many thanks for your helpful reply and for the additional source! I changed it to 22 July 2016 and added all three sources (the UNAT judgment, the Security Council resolution and the order terminating the proceedings) – together, they provide quite strong support for that date. I actually put the sources inside the table entries – since July is quite a short month name, there was enough space for three citations without unduly enlarging the table – but feel free to move them to a new column if you think that’s preferable. I used the date in a new infobox at Antoine Kesia-Mbe Mindua. Joriki (talk) 18:29, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
