Tubular Bells Deluxe Edition / Ultimate Edition, etc. (2009)

[edit]

Hello, I suspect that you probably know a thing or two about Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells… Mike Oldfield's 35 year contract with Branson's Virgin Records (first Virgin album, which helped launch Virgin) expired in 2008 and Oldfield released a flurry of a remixed remastered recordings the following year (2009). So, I created a new page Tubular Bells 2009 which, while I was still working on it, was reverted to a redirect to Tubular Bells 2003 and, at the same time, the row I created in Mike Oldfield discography was undone.

I do believe that the various Tubular Bells releases in 2009 under the Mercury label with remixing and remastering which included not only the original recording, but also (duplicated) tracks that were remastered with new stereo remixes and surround sound mixes deserves its own page (there were a whole slew of releases in different regions with different track mash-ups). Incidentally, the current version of Tubular Bells 2003 incorrectly states:

I have no patience for an edit war but, in good faith, I believe that the 2003 page needs some correction and that it is also appropriate to restore the Tubular Bells 2009 page, perhaps with a modified page name. What do you think?
Enquire (talk) 00:15, 22 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Enquire, I'll need to have a look into that re-recording rights returned to him bit on the 2003 article as I wasn't aware that that was possibly the reason it was recorded at that time; it does sound plausible and I'm not too familiar with the legal rights around re-recording. That claim on the the 2003 article is sourced and is from a fairly well known magazine publisher, where it claims to be a quote from Oldfield himself, so it may well be correct.
As for the 2009 reissue having its own article, I have a feeling that it would fail Wikipedia:Notability_(music)#Albums as aside from being a reissue (albeit with remixes and previously unreleased content) of a notable album there perhaps isn't enough specifically about the new content on the 2009 issue that would be notable in its own right. For example, I'm not aware that it charted particularly highly anywhere in 2009, etc.
For creating articles as I've been hit by people being sometimes overzealous with deleting content while I've been working on it too, I tend to get articles up to an almost finished state on a User Sandbox page before putting into the main article space. TubularWorld (talk) 17:32, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I read Wikipedia:Notability_(music)#Albums and it occurs to me that if the flurry of 2009 re-recordings of new mixes and remastered re-mixes does not qualify under notability, then it would seem that neither do the 2003 releases. In any event, the 2003 page cites these releases as coming after his contract with Virgin expired. This appears to falsely conflate the facts behind the 2009 releases into the page on the 2003 releases. The 2003 releases were made essentially as a 30th anniversary re-release (also remixed, etc.) under the terms of the Virgin 35 year contract. Undoubtedly, the 2009 releases were motivated by the expiration of the contract with Virgin the year before in 2008. It seems to me that either the 2003 and the 2009 releases both fail the notability test or they both pass the notability test.

Notice

The article John Van Tongeren has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable performer. While the subject has worked on multiple notable projects, it has not garnered any press for him. The only pause for concern is the "numerous awards" which are entirely unsourced. If they are recognizing him directly, it might be worth keeping. They seem to be for his scores for shows, yet none of that has garnered any press for him. WP:GNG.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hello, TubularWorld,

Just a reminder that any time you tag a page for deletion (CSD, PROD, AFD/RFD/TFD/etc.), you must post a notification on the talk page of the page creator. It's an essential step of the deletion process, especially for PRODs because the content creator may be able to address your concerns about the article. If you make use of Twinkle and set your Preferences to "Notify page creator", then Twinkle will post these messages for you which makes things convenient. Please post these notices in any deletion taggings you do in the future. Thank you! Liz Read! Talk! 16:40, 30 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

That completely slipped my mind, sorry. I didn't know Twinkle could do that, so will bear in mind for the the future. Thanks TubularWorld (talk) 14:15, 31 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
