Introduction to contentious topics
[edit]You have recently edited a page related to articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Benedict Francis
[edit]Hello. I saw that you BLPPRODded Benedict Francis. An administrator is likely to decline it, because there were already sources of sorts on the page, in the form of external links. WP:BLPPROD says "To be eligible for a BLPPROD tag, the entry must be a biography of a living person and contain no sources in any form (as references, external links, etc., reliable or otherwise) supporting any statements made about the person in the biography." I know, because I inadvertently fell foul of that provision too. I don't disagree that the article does not belong on Wikipedia, and in fact it looks as though it may be a closely reworded copy of the subject's biography from their personal web site, so I have tagged it as a copyright violation, which will hopefully get the article removed anyway. Cheers SunloungerFrog (talk) 08:27, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- I know that BLPPROD is for articles that do not contain any sources, but the sources of this article were not well inserted, so in doubt I marked it, thank you for informing me about this. SparklingBlueMoon (talk) 15:00, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- You're welcome, and as you'll see the article has now been deleted anyway. Cheers SunloungerFrog (talk) 15:02, 3 December 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to Bart Simpson (filmmaker): you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template index/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. 【💬】 18:36, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @Jayhawker6, is there an option for this with Twinkle? SparklingBlueMoon (talk) 18:39, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- Yes! I suggest that you read more about twinkle and how to use it along with reverting vandalism on the respective pages. Twinkle has a tool you can use and settings you can configure to automatically send you to the user talk page to warn the user after reverting. 【💬】 18:42, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks for letting me know. SparklingBlueMoon (talk) 18:47, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
