Welcome from Redwolf24

[edit]

Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. We as a community are glad to have you and thank you for creating a user account! Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Yes some of the links appear a bit boring at first, but they are VERY helpful if you ever take the time to read them.

Remember to place any articles you create into a category so we don't get orphans.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, please be sure to sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, or three tildes (~~~) for just your name. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome.

Hey smurrayinchester. All you have to do is add your name to the list of members with the 3 ~s. Thanks for wanting to help out! Wikiwoohoo 16:12, 4 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

.... for the barnstar. I feel like I've barely scratched the surface of needy ASUE articles, but it's nice to know my efforts have been noticed. TheMadBaron 17:30, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

[edit]

You are a new editor who actually has the ability of admiting you might be wrong at times? Wow, I didn't know they still made those. In case you have any doubts or issues during your stay on the Wikipedia, feel free to contact me. Regards, --Sn0wflake 22:30, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there

[edit]

Well, I must say, that's a nice user page you've got there, considering the short time that you've been on WP. And the signatures are quite jolly, too. All I ever see on WP are red or blue signatures. Igor the Lion 21:25, 18 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

De gustibus non est disputandum is Latin for "There must be no discussion regarding tastes," or, "There is no arguing taste". Taste is supposed to mean a personal point of view (correct me if I'm mistaken), so de gustibus non est disputandum should be NPOV. To summarize: There were two friends on the same side of a stream. One was wearing red-tinted glasses, while the other had green ones on. The first friend said, "Look at that crimson stream!" The other replied vehemently, saying, "That's not red, that's the greenest stream I've ever seen! You must be blind!" And so the two friends went on, arguing about the true color of the stream and not bothering to take off their glasses (POV) and look at the stream without being influenced by the shades (impartial judgment). As you probably realized, they got nowhere. That's why, there is no arguing about tastes. Glad to have met you. Igor the Lion 16:02, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Snicket WikiProject launched

[edit]

Seeing as you seem to have shown an interest in A Series of Unfortunate Events related articles, I thought you might want to know about a new WikiProject that I have started up, on the aforementioned topic. Please see it here! If you wish to help out, please sign up in the Participants section. Thanks! --Celestianpower háblame 19:59, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Got back from an overseas visit and got over the jet lag. Your effort on the BBC Weather article is superb. It looks great! Wikiwoohoo 18:22, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

...and a Happy New Year! (But let's save that for next week.) Wishing you a blessed Christmas - Igor the Lion(Roar!) 05:38, 25 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Smurrayinchester. I was thinking with the above image that now there is Image:BBCworldweather.jpg on the BBC Weather article that the logo from the website isn't needed. I've removed it from the article but won't add it to WP:IFD just yet. Just wanted to see what you thought since you uploaded it. Wikiwoohoo 16:34, 28 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hiding lines in templates

[edit]

Hi sorry for not getting back to you sooner. The way I had done it has now been depreciated, so there are two competing ways of doing it, and I am currently having a bit of an edit war/discussion as to how it should be done. One way (my way) uses complicated code to produce simple, always working, markup; the other uses less complicated code to create more complicated markup that sometimes breaks. Two different styles of writing/thought processes. I will let you know how it pans out and what is the accepted method to use. – MrWeeble Talk Brit tv 12:13, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Esperanza!

[edit]

Welcome, Smurrayinchester/Archive 1, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. Redwolf24 runs the spam to keep members up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.

I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee comprised of FireFox, Flcelloguy. Titoxd, and Karmafist. The next set of elections will be February 28, and I would be glad to see you vote, or even consider running for a position.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Celestianpower by email or talk page or the Esperanza talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Thank you. ➨ REDVERS 19:17, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much! for expanding on Chester Racecourse. I was interested in the bit about Shrove Tuesday and the "Chester Bells". Originally there was a football match see.. http://www.bwpics.co.uk/roodee2.html

Hi, I was about to update User_talk:Talskiddy about the Chester Racecourse appearance in DYK and I found that you've beaten me to it. Thanks for the same and for expanding that article significantly. --Gurubrahma 06:52, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

De gustibus

[edit]

Hi! I noticed you put the "de gustibus" phrase as my quote. I don't know if you're aware, but it's an old saying (see here) that was created quite some time before we were born. Belated Happy New Year, by the way! (Thought I greeted you last week) Keep smiling! ;p Igor the Lion(Roar!) 11:56, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Edit tools box

[edit]

Hi, I was just wondering if the edit tools box is working properly for you now, giving you Welsh letters when you select Welsh, Spanish letters when you selected Spanish, and so forth. --Angr (tɔk) 09:25, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's annoying. It works fine for me. Anyway, the place to bring up problems is MediaWiki talk:Edittools. --Angr (tɔk) 12:36, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a ton...

[edit]
...for the barnstar. Ability to update DYK was one of the things that drove me to seek adminship. I've been at it for just a tad over a month though and hope to keep doing it in the company of other regular updaters of DYK such as nixie. btw, from your user page I am guessing that your user name is an amalgamation of "S. Murray in Chester." ;-) --Gurubrahma 16:20, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My user page...

[edit]

I dunno really, it just doesn't look great to me. To me, it just seems like, "colored box, colored box, colered box, some links, some links, user page tag." You don't think it looks boring? I don't know. Sorry for the delayed response, normally I answer more expeditiously. Cheers. --LV (Dark Mark) 16:48, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, perhaps dark, but really, just something that stands out. I have seen so many user pages that look exactly the same, and while not totally bad, would appreciate people looking at my page to say, "Wow, that's new", or "I'll remember this for sure." Now, I know this is tough, and should probably be doing it myself, but if you wanted to take a few minutes trying to come up with something, I sure wouldn't complain. :-) If you don't feel up to it, just let me know. It's no big deal either way. Cheers. --LV (Dark Mark) 16:57, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Not too bad... I might play with the colours some to make things more readable, but generally okay. Thanks for the platform. --LV (Dark Mark) 18:04, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

After consideration, I feel I am going to change it back to what I had for now. No offense, what you did was good, it was simply a little too hard to read. I will probably use some of your ideas at a later time, if you don't mind. I am sorry you spent so much time, but hope you don't feel like it was wasted time. Thanks again, and sorry. --LV (Dark Mark) 20:08, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I thought you may be interested to know that the Template Barnstar, which you supported is now a barnstar. Mind you, looking through your contributions, you deserve one too, so here you go! smurrayinchester(User), (Talk) 22:33, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! I changed the date of introduction to January 8 (because that's when you posted the proposal). Thanks again! —David Levy 22:45, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
