Mill Green Mill, Fryerning

I not you moved this article for disabiguation purposes. The other Mill Green Mill is in Hatfield. What are you thoughts on this suggestion -

  • Mill Green Mill - a disambig page
  • Mill Green Mill, Fryerning - the windmill
  • Mill Green Mill, Hatfield - the watermill

Which should be clear enough for anybody. Mjroots (talk) 05:16, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

Wikiproject Hertfordshire

Hi there.

I was thinking about trying to increase the level of involvement in this project. Not necessarily in terms of numbers, but seeing if we can get people involved with the project itself. It's a small one but I think it's got a lot of potential; looking at the editors and good quality articles on the project there are some good editors with pretty diverse interests around (transport, sport, geography, music, history, politics, mills, lists in general), and I think there's a lot of potential for some fantastic collaborative work if we can figure out a way of bringing it all together. For instance, a good or featured standard article in the county itself or the major towns would benefit from all of these areas, and I imagine the "finished" articles would be wonderful things. Just wondering if you had any ideas? WFCforLife (talk) 18:00, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

Those are pretty good skills to have. I think a monthly newsletter could be a great idea. It would give people who generally do edit things Herts-related that help is around (or even just a reminder that we exist). A portal's definitely something that could help too, provided there's a wide enough variety of content to go on it. A few weeks back I was thinking about inviting a few people who edit Watford F.C. articles if they were interested in joining, but I wasn't sure if that would help the project as a whole, or run the risk of turning it into a football subpage (which despite my name I certainly don't want to do). Either way, I think I'll drop a quick note on the talk pages of other editors and see if they're interested in reviving the project itself. I think there are at least half a dozen that would.
By the way, I've cleared the unassessed importance list. It's by no means perfect, but at least now the priority can be shifted away from assessing random, mainly low-importance articles to deciding what belongs in "top" and "high". WFCforLife (talk) 20:31, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
Wow! Took a quick look and that's incredible! You must put a lot of time into those. Anything within a country mile of that would be amazing, even if it was only quarterly or bi-annually. WFCforLife (talk) 22:06, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

Alphabet association

New game started.

Rather than forever repeating A-G, I've started a B-H game. Game 3 would logically be C-I and thus onwards to T-Z and then U-A, but there is nothing stopping game 4 being Q-W or even W-Q.

I thought it might add a bit of variety to proceedings and hope you don't disapprove. Thryduulf (talk) 23:58, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

Highgate Hill

I presume you mean the Hornsey Lane Bridge over the A1. There's nothing in my tube line books about this or the trams that went up the hill. There's a bit of info here and there may be more elsewhere on that site --DavidCane (talk) 22:32, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

I have used British History Online in the past for local history articles such as Morden, Merton (historic parish), Wallington (hundred) and Wimbledon, London, and occasionally for checking general history in some railway articles, but most of the information for tube articles comes from the books I have listed in their references (e.g. see Baker Street and Waterloo Railway, Great Northern, Piccadilly and Brompton Railway or Timeline of the London Underground).
For general historical information, including population statistics, boundary changes and the like, http://www.visionofbritain.org.uk/ is very useful.
If you are a member of a public library, they may provide access to online subscriptions to newspaper archives at http://infotrac.galegroup.com/default including all copies of The Times up to 1980.
Another site I use a lot is http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/ which is the source of official government and public announcements and, in the 19th and early 20th where details of all private bills had to be published before being debated in parliament. In the early 19th century, military despatches from foreign wars were also published. It is also contains the official notices of all military and civil honours and military appointments.
Useful maps can be found at:

Archway does look as if it could do with expanding, but I don't see any reason why the shouldn't be a separate article on the bridge itself if there's enough information. --DavidCane (talk) 22:38, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Petition against kitten abuse

Although it looks like a joke page, it's not primarily a lame attempt at Wikipedia humour, but a (quite elaborately worked out) reductio ad absurdum of the increasingly hysterical arguments at Wikipedia:Petition against IAR abuse (itself a response to the WMF-sanctioned mass deletion of unreferenced biographical articles without going through the traditional deletion process, on the grounds that "potentially defamatory" overrides Wikipedia's internal rules and thus is a legitimate use of IAR).

Unless you're prepared to get involved in a particularly spectacular argument between the unlikely alliance of Jimmy Wales and the Wikipedia Review on one side and many of the "old school" admins on the other, I would really strongly suggest leaving this. – iridescent 21:46, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

If you're meaning approving or opposing either petition then i am already involved. And i would not say it is a lame attempt, it is actually quite interesting. As for the original, please see my opinion on it at Wikipedia talk:Petition against IAR abuse#Background. Simply south (talk) 21:50, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

Iridescent is correct that while the page incorporates humor (rather self-evidently), its primary purpose is to illustrate perceived flaws in the petition process. To be clear, this has no bearing on the validity of the underlying concerns that led to the IAR abuse petition's creation. I personally agree with the message's essence (though not all of its wording), but I regard the format as counterproductive. —David Levy 23:43, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

Editor Review: done

User talk

I have done an editor review for you at Wikipedia:Editor review/Simply south 4.

Perhaps you could consider doing a review of another editor? It takes a bit of time (reviews can take anywhere from about 15 minutes up to 2 hours, depending on how many contributions the editor has made, where they have contributed, etc).

The ones marked with a * are those editors who have not been reviewed yet — if you want to review one of these, make sure you remove the asterisks in the parts indicated!

If you have not done a review before, you might feel more comfortable giving a second review to an editor — this will show you an example of a review that has been done, and show you the kinds of things that can be commented on. I hope that you find the review useful. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about it.

The MOTD Needs You!

April Fool's Day is round the corner, but alas! We have reached no consensus, yet. Only yours truly and pjoef have commented, and that is not fast enough at all! Please go to Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/Specials to comment about the April Fool's Day mottos. We cannot leave a redlink on the MOTD templates, especially on such an important day! An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is London Buses route 384. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/London Buses route 384. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:09, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 21:16, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
