Disambiguation link notification for April 12
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited John Loret, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page University of New York. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

DYK for Eurymela distincta
On 5 May 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Eurymela distincta, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the leafhopper species Eurymela distincta (pictured) is often accompanied by ants that eat its sugary excrement? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Eurymela distincta. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Eurymela distincta), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Markov text on user page you blocked.
Hi, I saw you'd blocked User:Yash Shrimali for being a Markov text spambot (I'd speedied some of the pages & was watching the user page). I noticed the user page itself was more of the same but wasn't sure if that met any deletion criteria, or since the user was already blocked if it should just be left alone & wanted to check. Also I'm pretty sure you're wrong & Tasmania isn't really a place. Thanks! JamesG5 (talk) 16:35, 21 May 2017 (UTC)

Flags in European current templates
Hello there, I have been asked by another member of WPRL to widen the conversation on "Flags in European current templates", in the hope to gain a wider consensus. I imagine that this message may well never be read, dismissed, see me lose support, potentially gain some or take the discussion forwards. Please do take the time to read the discussion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Rugby_league#Flags_in_squad_templates if you can, but the crux of my position is that the flags are prevalent elsewhere, are consistent with usage by the MOS, and their implementation for their rugby league national squad/team or representative nationality, is in line with their intended purpose. The crux of the remove side would be an IP editor may interpret a flag as indication of birth, give too much credence to the nation, and the decision was made previously. To remove them from all rugby league templates when there is a limited conversation would seem more than a little unfair I would say, hence the attempt to reach out. I'm quite happy to voted down, but would appreciate a few more voices to the discussion, else it would seem quite wrong to move from the majority into the minority.Fleets (talk) 19:56, 13 July 2017 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Antoine Veil
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Antoine Veil requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Kleuske (talk) 10:50, 17 July 2017 (UTC)

Hi myself,
As you can see from the outcome of the discussion, this was manifestly a misguided attempt to very narrowly apply WP:COATRACK, WP:SYNT, WP:NOTNEO and so on.
And, dude, please don't hide behind the "oh, Shirt58 is criticising himself, this is a learning moment and a sign of greater understanding of the Wikipedia project" excuses yet again: that got old a long time ago.

About Waterfall, Strath Creek
Hello Shirt58. Would you like help in building the article or devising the DYK? I have created a few DYKs for Australian paintings, such as Footballer, and from what I know, the article needs to reach a decent length before it is eligible for DYK. Category deletion per CSD G6
Hi Peter!
I have a small request: when deleting categories such as Category:Users who are sheep that are tagged with {{db-xfd}}, would you kindly include a link to the deletion discussion page in the deletion reason, so that editors can trace what happened with the category—you can do so manually or by using the "deletion" link in the speedy deletion notice itself. Without the link to the discussion, the reason for the deletion becomes more obscure (especially to non-admins).
Thanks in advance! -- Black Falcon (talk) 03:46, 29 October 2017 (UTC)

My page deletion
You recently deleted my page.I understand Wikipedia is not a free web host service and I hope to contribute to a lot of articles in the future, in the sandbox I was only experimenting with templates and trying to get used to and practice editing and using templates. I dont believe my page should've been deleted because in the sandbox info page none of what I did went against that. YuriGagrin12 (talk) 19:35, 22 November 2017 (UTC)

ANI Experiences survey
Beginning on November 28, 2017, the Wikimedia Foundation Community health initiative (Safety and Support and Anti-Harassment Tools team) will be conducting a survey to en.wikipedia contributors on their experience and satisfaction level with the Administrator’s Noticeboard/Incidents. This survey will be integral to gathering information about how this noticeboard works - which problems it deals with well, and which problems it struggles with.
The survey should take 10-20 minutes to answer, and your individual responses will not be made public. The survey is delivered through Google Forms. The privacy policy for the survey describes how and when Wikimedia collects, uses, and shares the information we receive from survey participants and can be found here:
If you would like to take this survey, please sign up on this page, and a link for the survey will be mailed to you via Special:Emailuser.

Hello. I am writing to you regarding the deletion of my sandbox page. First, I am not clear why my harmless sandbox is deleted, I think it was a valid page listing all currently transmitted telenovelas, similar pages exist in wikipedia, this one is just more detailed and in the end it is only a sandbox. Second, I honestly do not understand what user User:Philip J Fry has against me, instead of contributing for the good of wikipedia he is constantly chasing me. Now he has gone against my harmless sandbox, and previously if you take a look at the history he has reverted many of my edits of en.wikipedia, those edits that I made were usually corrections of the erroneous data, and he has on various occasions insisted that his or previous edits are somehow right, providing no or no valid reason. Therefore, please help me retrieve my sandbox and warn the user Philip J Fry to stop chasing me. I know that lately I did not contribute much on en.wikipedia, but on es.wikipedia I have good references where I have introduced many new things and they have been now accepted by other users. All the best, --Zzz369 (talk) 12:59, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

Your contributed article, Bishop Cornelius Korir
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Bishop Cornelius Korir. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Cornelius Korir. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Cornelius Korir. If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page.
If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. QuiteUnusual (talk) 16:09, 8 December 2017 (UTC)

A survey township is literally just a miniature cadastral division. The New England states (including Maine), and most of the other US states outside the original colonies, were surveyed in squares (outside New England, these were mostly six miles by six miles), and each of these squares is a survey township. New England town boundaries routinely follow the surveys (it was common to sell unsettled frontier land by the township, and only later would it be subdivided, so each one formed an identifiable unit), as you can see from maps such as File:MEMap-location-of-Littleton.png. However, Maine has large areas of wilderness that were never developed, so many of its townships are part of unorganized territory; probably the best decision is to redirect this survey township to whatever territory includes it. Nyttend (talk) 12:40, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
See Plantation (Maine) for a discussion of how these places work, for example; a survey township in Maine is simply one of these places that never got enough settlers to become a plantation or town, or it's a former plantation or town that gave up its self-government. Some places are named but simply don't have enough people to function as towns. I've redirected T1-R9 WELS to its territory, Northeast Piscataquis, Maine. Nyttend (talk) 12:54, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

Category code
Hi Peter,
I came across two user categories of which you are the sole member, Category:Wikpedidians who are a absent-minded creature and Category:Wikipedians who kittens want to eat. Since you are the sole member and joke user categories consistently have been deleted in the past, would you kindly consider utilizing an alternative to category code, such as {{Fmbox}}, to achieve the same effect? For example:
{{fmbox | image = none | textstyle = text-align:left; margin:1em 0em; color:#0645AD | text = {{flatlist| * Wikpedidians who are a absent-minded creature * Wikipedians who kittens want to eat }} }}
produces:

Please check before you create a page with a restricted title
Before creating a page with a restricted title, please take reasonable steps to verify that you're not violating the purpose of the restriction. In the case of Draft:Ryan Hampton (author), the restriction exists due to sockpuppetry by one specific person; when a new account shows up and immediately edits pages like ANI and Template:ArbComOpenTasks/CaseRequests within 3 hours of creation, sockpuppetry is highly likely. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 08:31, 7 February 2018 (UTC)

Hi, can I ask why you're adding links to Paul Trynka when your article submission has been declined? There's no point in systematically adding links throughout the encyclopaedia when the article doesn't exist, surely.
I'm a big admirer of Trynka's and agree we should have an article about him. Here are some sources I've found:
- bio from one of his publishers: https://www.penguin.com.au/authors/paul-trynka
- articles written for The Independent: http://www.independent.co.uk/author/paul-trynka
- appears to be an interview with him here: https://www.wnyc.org/people/paul-trynka/

- list of liner notes he's written: https://www.allmusic.com/artist/paul-trynka-mn0002036878
- detailed professional bio at Rock's Backpages: https://www.rocksbackpages.com/Library/Writer/paul-trynka

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:28, 25 June 2018 (UTC)

Hi there, one of my main interests here on Wikipedia is to improve the coverage of the world of squash.
I didn't write the article that you deleted, I was only a very minor contributor.
But I would argue, albeit in a better incarnation, that article needs to exist. If a certain organisation is regarded as the national governing body for that sport in that country, then it is notable, and the article needs to exist.
If you have a quick look, you will see that the equivalent articles about the main squash governing bodies of many other countries exist.
What do you reckon the best thing to do is? Request its undeletion so it can be ammended, or for someone else, like myself to independently write a different article on the topic?
I am worried that you carried out the speedy deletion ignoring the comments on the talk page, so I was wondering if perhaps there is something here that I don't understand.
Thanks, Dr. Vogel (talk) 12:18, 2 August 2018 (UTC)
Administrators' newsletter – August 2018
News and updates for administrators from the past month (July 2018).
- After a discussion at Meta, a new user group called "interface administrators" (formerly "technical administrator") has been created. Come the end of August, interface admins will be the only users able to edit site-wide JavaScript and CSS pages like MediaWiki:Common.js and MediaWiki:Common.css, or edit other user's personal JavaScript and CSS. The intention is to improve security and privacy by reducing the number of accounts which could be used to compromise the site or another user's account through malicious code. The new user group can be assigned and revoked by bureaucrats. Discussion is ongoing to establish details for implementing the group on the English Wikipedia.
- Following a request for comment, the WP:SISTER style guideline now states that in the mainspace, interwiki links to Wikinews should only be made as per the external links guideline. This generally means that within the body of an article, you should not link to Wikinews about a particular event that is only a part of the larger topic. Wikinews links in "external links" sections can be used where helpful, but not automatically if an equivalent article from a reliable news outlet could be linked in the same manner.
- The WMF Anti-Harassment Tools team is seeking input on the second set of wireframes for the Special:Block redesign that will introduce partial blocks. The new functionality will allow you to block a user from editing a specific set of pages, pages in a category, a namespace, and for specific actions such as moving pages and uploading files.

- Following a "stop-gap" discussion, six users have temporarily been made interface administrators while discussion is ongoing for a more permanent process for assigning the permission. Interface administrators are now the only editors allowed to edit sitewide CSS and JavaScript pages, as well as CSS/JS pages in another user's userspace. Previously, all administrators had this ability. The right can be granted and revoked by bureaucrats.
- Because of a data centre test you will be able to read but not edit the wikis for up to an hour on 12 September and 10 October. This will start at 14:00 (UTC). You might lose edits if you try to save during this time. The time when you can't edit might be shorter than an hour.
- Some abuse filter variables have changed. They are now easier to understand for non-experts. The old variables will still work but filter editors are encouraged to replace them with the new ones. You can find the list of changed variables on mediawiki.org. They have a note which says
Deprecated. Use ... instead
. An example isarticle_text
which is nowpage_title
. - Abuse filters can now use how old a page is. The variable is
page_age
.
- The Arbitration Committee has resolved to perform a round of Checkuser and Oversight appointments. The usernames of all applicants will be shared with the Functionaries team, and they will be requested to assist in the vetting process. The deadline to submit an application is 23:59 UTC, 12 September, and the candidates that move forward will be published on-wiki for community comments on 18 September.
Answer to your question about ALI
Dear Shirt58, Ali is actually a name in Persian (also Arabic) and it has lots of meanings (good features). For Learn Persian, word "آقا" or "جناب" is recommended.

- Following a request for comment, the process for appointing interface administrators has been established. Currently only existing admins can request these rights, while a new RfC has begun on whether it should be available to non-admins.
- There is an open request for comment on Meta regarding the creation a new user group for global edit filter management.
- Partial blocks should be available for testing in October on the Test Wikipedia and the Beta-Cluster. This new feature allows admins to block users from editing specific pages and in the near-future, namespaces and uploading files. You can expect more updates and an invitation to help with testing once it is available.
- The Foundations' Anti-Harassment Tools team is currently looking for input on how to measure the effectiveness of blocks. This is in particular related to how they will measure the success of the aforementioned partial blocks.
- Because of a data centre test, you will be able to read but not edit the Wikimedia projects for up to an hour on 10 October. This will start at 14:00 (UTC). You might lose edits if you try to save during this time.
- The Arbitration Committee has, by motion, amended the procedure on functionary inactivity.
- The community consultation for 2018 CheckUser and Oversight appointments has concluded. Appointments will be made by October 11.
- Following a request for comment, the size of the Arbitration Committee will be decreased to 13 arbitrators, starting in 2019. Additionally, the minimum support percentage required to be appointed to a two-year term on ArbCom has been increased to 60%. ArbCom candidates who receive between 50% and 60% support will be appointed to one-year terms instead.
- Nominations for the 2018 Arbitration Committee Electoral Commission are being accepted until 12 October. These are the editors who help run the ArbCom election smoothly. If you are interested in volunteering for this role, please consider nominating yourself.
Temple
The temple article is part of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Australian historic places project to transfer the CC-BY-licensed (and thus Wikipedia-usable) contents of the State Heritage Register into articles where appropriate. I rewrote quite a bit of the SHR text because the prose wasn't very well written, but I didn't do any further research beyond the (otherwise quite usable) SHR material on the temple. Would be terrific if there's anything you can add, whether regarding Chinese characters or content! The Drover's Wife (talk) 10:53, 26 October 2018 (UTC)

- A village pump discussion has been ongoing about whether the proposed deletion policy (PROD) should be clarified or amended.
- A request for comment is in progress to determine whether pending changes protection should be applied automatically to today's featured article (TFA) in order to mitigate a recent trend of severe image vandalism.
- Partial blocks is now available for testing on the Test Wikipedia. The new functionality allows you to block users from editing specific pages. Bugs may exist and can be reported on the local talk page or on Meta. A discussion regarding deployment to English Wikipedia will be started by community liaisons sometime in the near future.
- A user script is now available to quickly review unblock requests.
- The 2019 Community Wishlist Survey is now accepting new proposals until November 11, 2018. The results of this survey will determine what software the Wikimedia Foundation's Community Tech team will work on next year. Voting on the proposals will take place from November 16 to November 30, 2018. Specifically, there is a proposal category for admins and stewards that may be of interest.
- Eligible editors will be invited to nominate themselves as candidates in the 2018 Arbitration Committee Elections starting on November 4 until November 13. Voting will begin on November 19 and last until December 2.

ArbCom 2018 election voter message
Hello, Shirt58. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

Interface administrator changes
- Following a request for comment, the Mediation Committee is now closed and will no longer be accepting case requests.
- A request for comment is in progress to determine whether members of the Bot Approvals Group should satisfy activity requirements in order to remain in that role.
- A request for comment is in progress regarding whether to change the administrator inactivity policy, such that administrators "who have made no logged administrative actions for at least 12 months may be desysopped". Currently, the policy states that administrators "who have made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least 12 months may be desysopped".
- A proposal has been made to temporarily restrict editing of the Main Page to interface administrators in order to mitigate the impact of compromised accounts.
- Administrators and bureaucrats can no longer unblock themselves unless they placed the block initially. This change has been implemented globally. See also this ongoing village pump discussion (permalink).
- To complement the aforementioned change, blocked administrators will soon have the ability to block the administrator that placed their block to mitigate the possibility of a compromised administrator account blocking all other active administrators.
- Since deployment of Partial blocks on Test Wikipedia, several bugs were identified. Most of them are now fixed. Administrators are encouraged to test the new deployment and report new bugs on Phabricator or leave feedback on the Project's talk page. You can request administrator access on the Test Wiki here.
- Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee Elections is open to eligible editors until Monday 23:59, 3 December 2018. Please review the candidates and, if you wish to do so, submit your choices on the voting page.
- In late November, an attacker compromised multiple accounts, including at least four administrator accounts, and used them to vandalize Wikipedia. If you have ever used your current password on any other website, you should change it immediately. Sharing the same password across multiple websites makes your account vulnerable, especially if your password was used on a website that suffered a data breach. As these incidents have shown, these concerns are not pure fantasies.
- Wikipedia policy requires administrators to have strong passwords. To further reinforce security, administrators should also consider enabling two-factor authentication. A committed identity can be used to verify that you are the true account owner in the event that your account is compromised and/or you are unable to log in.
- Shock Brigade Harvester Boris (Raymond Arritt) passed away on 14 November 2018. Boris joined Wikipedia as Raymond arritt on 8 May 2006 and was an administrator from 30 July 2007 to 2 June 2008.

Your contributed article, Azizul Islam(Politician)
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Azizul Islam(Politician). First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Azizul Islam (politician). Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Azizul Islam (politician).
Tagishsimon (talk) 13:39, 13 December 2018 (UTC)

Hello, Shirt58,
I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Eilean (yacht) should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Eilean (yacht) .
If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.
Thanks,

Administrators' newsletter – January 2019
News and updates for administrators from the past month (December 2018).
- There are a number of new or changed speedy deletion criteria, each previously part of WP:CSD#G6:
- G14 (new): Disambiguation pages that disambiguate only zero or one existing pages are now covered under the new G14 criterion (discussion). This is {{db-disambig}}; the text is unchanged and candidates may be found in Category:Candidates for speedy deletion as unnecessary disambiguation pages.
- R4 (new): Redirects in the file namespace (and no file links) that have the same name as a file or redirect at Commons are now covered under the new R4 criterion (discussion). This is {{db-redircom}}; the text is unchanged.
- G13 (expanded): Userspace drafts containing only the default Article Wizard text are now covered under G13 along with other drafts (discussion). Such blank drafts are now eligible after six months rather than one year, and taggers continue to use {{db-blankdraft}}.
- The Wikimedia Foundation now requires all interface administrators to enable two-factor authentication.
- Members of the Bot Approvals Group (BAG) are now subject to an activity requirement. After two years without any bot-related activity (e.g. operating a bot, posting on a bot-related talk page), BAG members will be retired from BAG following a one-week notice.
- Starting on December 13, the Wikimedia Foundation security team implemented new password policy and requirements. Privileged accounts (administrators, bureaucrats, checkusers, oversighters, interface administrators, bots, edit filter managers/helpers, template editors, et al.) must have a password at least 10 characters in length. All accounts must have a password:
- At least 8 characters in length
- Not in the 100,000 most popular passwords (defined by the Password Blacklist library)
- Different from their username
- User accounts not meeting these requirements will be prompted to update their password accordingly. More information is available on MediaWiki.org.
- Blocked administrators may now block the administrator that blocked them. This was done to mitigate the possibility that a compromised administrator account would block all other active administrators, complementing the removal of the ability to unblock oneself outside of self-imposed blocks. A request for comment is currently in progress to determine whether the blocking policy should be updated regarding this change.
- {{Copyvio-revdel}} now has a link to open the history with the RevDel checkboxes already filled in.
- Following the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections, the following editors have been appointed to the Arbitration Committee: AGK, Courcelles, GorillaWarfare, Joe Roe, Mkdw, SilkTork.
- Accounts continue to be compromised on a regular basis. Evidence shows this is entirely due to the accounts having the same password that was used on another website that suffered a data breach. If you have ever used your current password on any other website, you should change it immediately.
- Around 22% of admins have enabled two-factor authentication, up from 20% in June 2018. If you haven't already enabled it, please consider doing so. Regardless of whether you use 2FA, please practice appropriate account security by ensuring your password is secure and unique to Wikimedia.
A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions. I am glad to see that you are discussing a topic. However, as a general rule, talk pages such as Talk:Africa (Toto song) are for discussion related to improving the article in specific ways based on reliable sources and the project policies and guidelines, not for general discussion about the topic or unrelated topics, or statements based on your thoughts or feelings. Interface administrator changes
- A request for comment is currently open to reevaluate the activity requirements for administrators.
- Administrators who are blocked have the technical ability to block the administrator who blocked their own account. A recent request for comment has amended the blocking policy to clarify that this ability should only be used in exceptional circumstances, such as account compromises, where there is a clear and immediate need.
- A request for comment closed with a consensus in favor of deprecating The Sun as a permissible reference, and creating an edit filter to warn users who attempt to cite it.
- A discussion regarding an overhaul of the format and appearance of Wikipedia:Requests for page protection is in progress (permalink). The proposed changes will make it easier to create requests for those who are not using Twinkle. The workflow for administrators at this venue will largely be unchanged. Additionally, there are plans to archive requests similar to how it is done at WP:PERM, where historical records are kept so that prior requests can more easily be searched for.
- Voting in the 2019 Steward elections will begin on 08 February 2019, 14:00 (UTC) and end on 28 February 2019, 13:59 (UTC). The confirmation process of current stewards is being held in parallel. You can automatically check your eligibility to vote.
- A new IRC bot is available that allows you to subscribe to notifications when specific filters are tripped. This requires that your IRC handle be identified.

- The RfC on administrator activity requirements failed to reach consensus for any proposal.
- Following discussions at the Bureaucrats' noticeboard and Wikipedia talk:Administrators, an earlier change to the restoration of adminship policy was reverted. If requested, bureaucrats will not restore administrator permissions removed due to inactivity if there have been five years without a logged administrator action; this "five year rule" does not apply to permissions removed voluntarily.

- The Arbitration Committee announced two new OTRS queues. Both are meant solely for cases involving private information; other cases will continue to be handled at the appropriate venues (e.g., WP:COIN or WP:SPI).
- paid-en-wpwikipedia.org has been set up to receive private evidence related to abusive paid editing.
- checkuser-en-wpwikipedia.org has been set up to receive private requests for CheckUser. For instance, requests for IP block exemption for anonymous proxy editing should now be sent to this address instead of the functionaries-en list.

It was a topic at a Art, Architecture & Feminism edit-a-thon as part of International Women's Day. I was there as a "Wikipedia person" (support role) and know nothing about contemporary art. At such events I have to depend on the organisers and participants (who do know the topic area) to assess notability. I was told Lin Li's works were screened at significant national and international events (which would appear to meet the notability criteria for a video artist). I did one sentence with one citation to help a new participant who was struggling to get started. I stressed the importance of addiing the important screenings, which doesn't seem to have occurred, which leaves us with an WP:ARTN situation (the article itself doesn't demonstrate notability but doesn't rule out that the topic isn't notable), a common scenario from such events. For that reason, I think a better route would be AfD unless you have experience in artist notability. It is rare for people who attend such events to continue to edit after them (they say they will, but experience demonstrates that they don't), so there is a reluctance for articles to created at such events to be left in Draft. There is a lot of desire for these kinds of events to be successful, but as they mostly involve new users, they can be somewhat problematic. Kerry (talk) 22:09, 11 March 2019 (UTC)

- In Special:Preferences under "Appearance" → "Advanced options", there is now an option to show a confirmation prompt when clicking on a rollback link.
- The Wikimedia Foundation's Community health initiative plans to design and build a new user reporting system to make it easier for people experiencing harassment and other forms of abuse to provide accurate information to the appropriate channel for action to be taken. Please see meta:Community health initiative/User reporting system consultation 2019 to provide your input on this idea.
- The Arbitration Committee clarified that the General 1RR prohibition for Palestine-Israel articles may only be enforced on pages with the {{ARBPIA 1RR editnotice}} edit notice.
- Two more administrator accounts were compromised. Evidence has shown that these attacks, like previous incidents, were due to reusing a password that was used on another website that suffered a data breach. If you have ever used your current password on any other website, you should change it immediately. All admins are strongly encouraged to enable two-factor authentication, please consider doing so. Please always practice appropriate account security by ensuring your password is secure and unique to Wikimedia.
- As a reminder, according to WP:NOQUORUM, administrators looking to close or relist an AfD should evaluate a nomination that has received few or no comments as if it were a proposed deletion (PROD) prior to determining whether it should be relisted.

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)
ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.
Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.
We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.
For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:04, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

- A request for comment concluded that creating pages in the portal namespace should be restricted to autoconfirmed users.
- Following a request for comment, the subject-specific notability guideline for pornographic actors and models (WP:PORNBIO) was removed; in its place, editors should consult WP:ENT and WP:GNG.
- XTools Admin Stats, a tool to list admins by administrative actions, has been revamped to support more types of log entries such as AbuseFilter changes. Two additional tools have been integrated into it as well: Steward Stats and Patroller Stats.
- In response to the continuing compromise of administrator accounts, the Arbitration Committee passed a motion amending the procedures for return of permissions (diff). In such cases,
the committee will review all available information to determine whether the administrator followed "appropriate personal security practices" before restoring permissions
; administrators found failing to have adequately done sowill not be resysopped automatically
. All current administrators have been notified of this change. - Following a formal ratification process, the arbitration policy has been amended (diff). Specifically, the two-thirds majority required to remove or suspend an arbitrator now excludes (1) the arbitrator facing suspension or removal, and (2) any inactive arbitrator who does not respond within 30 days to attempts to solicit their feedback on the resolution through all known methods of communication.

- The CSD feature of Twinkle now allows admins to notify page creators of deletion if the page had not been tagged. The default behavior matches that of tagging notifications, and replaces the ability to open the user talk page upon deletion. You can customize which criteria receive notifications in your Twinkle preferences: look for Notify page creator when deleting under these criteria.

- In February 2019, the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) changed its office actions policy to include temporary and project-specific bans. The WMF exercised this new ability for the first time on the English Wikipedia on 10 June 2019 to temporarily ban and desysop Fram. This action has resulted in significant community discussion, a request for arbitration (permalink), and, either directly or indirectly, the resignations of numerous administrators and functionaries. The WMF Board of Trustees is aware of the situation, and discussions continue on a statement and a way forward. The Arbitration Committee has sent an open letter to the WMF Board.

- Following a request for comment, the page Wikipedia:Office actions has been changed from a policy page to an information page.
- A request for comment (permalink) is in progress regarding the administrator inactivity policy.
- Editors may now use the template {{Ds/aware}} to indicate that they are aware that discretionary sanctions are in force for a topic area, so it is unnecessary to alert them.
- Following a research project on masking IP addresses, the Foundation is starting a new project to improve the privacy of IP editors. The result of this project may significantly change administrative and counter-vandalism workflows. The project is in the very early stages of discussions and there is no concrete plan yet. Admins and the broader community are encouraged to leave feedback on the talk page.
- The new page reviewer right is bundled with the admin tool set. Many admins regularly help out at Special:NewPagesFeed, but they may not be aware of improvements, changes, and new tools for the Curation system. Stay up to date by subscribing here to the NPP newsletter that appears every two months, and/or putting the reviewers' talk page on your watchlist.
Since the introduction of temporary user rights, it is becoming more usual to accord the New Page Reviewer right on a probationary period of 3 to 6 months in the first instance. This avoids rights removal for inactivity at a later stage and enables a review of their work before according the right on a permanent basis.
Koch Apartments and other NRHP articles
Hi, I noticed your new article for Koch Apartments because it links to an article I created. Hey, there is a tool available to help create NRHP articles: http://elkman.net/nrhp/. Just plug in "Koch Apartments" there, and it gives you a cut-and-paste-ready infobox and more. It works for places listed on the NRHP before some date in 2013. More tips at wp:NRHPHELP. Anyhow, thanks, and keep up your good work! --Doncram (talk) 09:50, 4 August 2019 (UTC)
- And there's more below the infobox, including an already-formed inline reference to the NRHP nomination document, with link to photos, for the place. And categories, and perhaps more. :) I just select the whole thing using ctrl-A, then copy, then strip out the boilerplate text that needs to go. And i modify it in other ways, but that is a good start. The NRHP nomination doc and photos links work in many/most cases, including for almost all cases in South Dakota. :) --Doncram (talk) 09:57, 4 August 2019 (UTC)
License tagging for File:Melbourne Burning.jpeg
Thanks for uploading File:Melbourne Burning.jpeg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.
To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 12:30, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
I'm assuming you didn't look at the history of this article before declining the A1 and tagging it A7. The tagging editor had already tagged it A7 and I declined it (I think it's borderline, and I erred on the side of decline). I've removed it again. As an aside, the tagger shouldn't be tagging articles: they've only been here for a little under two months. The A7 was arguable, but the A1 was absurd. Oh, and totally unrelated, don't you want to remove the message that pops up here that says, "I will be off-line from 26 Dec 2016 to 29 Dec 2016 inclusive."? --Bbb23 (talk) 12:29, 27 August 2019 (UTC)
Question about Deleted Article "Edward Conze"
Dear Peter,
I sent this to you as a Wikipedia email a few days ago. It's not that I'm terribly impatient, but ever since I realized that Conze's page was deleted and rewritten, I've been eager to improve it. But I first wanted to determine if it was possible to restore the deleted version. Here is the email I sent to you:
Considering that Shantavira's article on Edward Conze was adapted with permission from Sangharakshita's Great Buddhists of the Twentieth Century, I'd like to know why the article was deleted.
Did Sangharakshita (or his estate) revoke permission to use the article? I found it curious that it was suddenly removed shortly before Sangharakshita's death, at the instigation of Michael Attwood aka Jayarava, an amateur scholar with a publically known personal bias against Conze.
The deleted article gives a much more complete picture of Conze, and as such, is of much higher quality that Jayarava's article.
Many thanks for any information or insight you can provide.
Best regards, Eric Lodru (talk) 21:04, 29 August 2019 (UTC)

Dear Wikipedia Admin Staff,
When I type my name (Sachin Joab) into a search engine, the results show images of me on the right hand side of the page and I can see my age clearly displayed. I can only assume this is being generated from Wikipedia. I simply have no clue how to have it removed?
To explain my plight further, I have been an actor for many years now. Unfortunately, I often lose roles even when I do a good audition because as opposed to many other actors, the knowledge of my age is openly available on Wikipedia.
I have no issue with losing out on roles because of my performance or if I look too young or too old for a role. However, even if I do an ideal performance in an audition and 'physically' fit the age and appearance of the character, if a producer/director/decision-maker identifies my age from viewing it on Wikipedia and my age differs from that of the character it negatively effects my chances at receiving the role. I find this terribly unfair because so many actors/actresses do not have their ages listed on Wikipedia (the way mine unfortunately appears).
Can you please direct me to the correct area within Wikipedia to have my age permanently removed from Wikipedia so that my age cannot be openly identified.
Your help in this matter would be much appreciated. Thank you.
Permanent Digulescian Authority page
Hey,
You deleted the page I had created and was so proud of (especially because of very succint yet comprehensive text), The Permanent Digulescian Authority.
While it may seem like a joke for you (maybe), it has a lot of meaning and a lot of people, especially in the Russian Federation Venezuela and parts of Eastern Europe (Romania for example), hope for this institution (to which the page was referring to) to begin functioning properly as soon as possible.
The fact it is related to me and my name, does not make the page deleateable! For example, should Reagan choose to create a webpage about "The poker pot which made Regan president", even though it would be about himself, it would, nevertheless, be true. And it could be sourced, etc.
So please restore my page! It gives a lot of strength to a lot of people. And by deleting it, you are hurting them.
Save that, at least point me to its content in the list of deleted pages, so at least I can access the great content there.
Finally, you did not respect the policies of Wikipedia regarding quick deletion. Although I contested this twice.
Maybe you are not fit to be an editor on Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mircea85 (talk • contribs) 19:55, 28 January 2020 (UTC)
Hey, this is to let you know I am about to create the this page again, with new content, and included newly available references. - The request for comment seeking the community's sentiment for a binding desysop procedure closed with

- Following a recent arbitration case, the Arbitration Committee reminded administrators
that checkuser and oversight blocks must not be reversed or modified without prior consultation with the checkuser or oversighter who placed the block, the respective functionary team, or the Arbitration Committee.

Bulgarian Antarctic Institute
Howdy hello! I see that you tagged Bulgarian Antarctic Institute as a hoax. I came across it as I occasionally patrol the hoax category. My question to you, since you didn't leave a note on the talk page, is what parts do you think constitute a hoax and why? I did a bit of googling, and did at least confirm that it exists. Might not be notable though. Your thoughts would be appreciated, please ping me in your response :) CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n!⚓ 05:27, 3 March 2020 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Cameron Venables (disambiguation)
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Cameron Venables (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either
- disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
- disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
- is a redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. The article Cameron Venables (disambiguation) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}

Hi Shirt58, just as a heads-up, I've upped your partial block of the above user to a sitewide block, after they decided to start socking with a new account. Generally with stuff like copyvios, it's probably serious enough that we want them to understand it's a major no-no before continuing to edit - as such is probably better to make it a sitewide, autoblock, no account creation block so they're forced to speak with someone rather than just ignoring everything and starting again as if nothing had happened. There's still one likely copyvio I've not dealt with yet, but I've restored the relevant tag that this guy removed - I'll deal with it tomorrow unless someone beats me to it! Weird request
Hi, Shirt58! I'm a newish Wikipedian with a somewhat strange personal request for you. I chose your page (along with a handful of others) semi-random from a set of administrators because you seem fun, "easy-going, helpful, [and] ridiculously erudite" enough to enjoy this, or at least not be completely irritated :)
In brief: I am an alumnus of UChicago, where I was heavily involved in the University of Chicago Scavenger Hunt, an absurd five-day long festival of irreverent and ridiculously arcane and obscure competition. Highly recommend the New Yorker article about it if you have the time. This year, it's online, for obvious reasons, and to help former teammates (post-grad life under quarantine is boring) I wanted to take on an item from this year's List: Get an Wikipedia admin to post their support for our team on their talk page by Sunday morning, Chicago time (17 May 2020, up between roughly UTC 13:00 to 17:00). You can view the website here, where there's a link to the List itself. This item is #88, and the team name in question is "BJ Scav 2020: 'Don't We Need a Name' and The Open Poll." Let me know if you have any questions, and thanks. WhinyTheYounger (talk) 15:12, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

Archery games
Hi, Shirt58! Just wanted to say: I absolutely agree that the whole of Archery games seems to have been copied, in two stages, from somewhere else. I just couldn't establish that either of the two possible sources you'd identified was in existence in 2006/2007. I'll be honest, I didn't spend a lot of time on it, and went for what seemed to be the simplest solution. If you do happen to come up with a source that predates our page then I think we should revdelete the entire history; meanwhile, what the eye doesn't see, the heart doesn't grieve over, right? Hello Shirt58. Thanks for acting on my request for this article. I'll admit, I did not look back in the history far enough when I tagged that article, so did not see that there were clean versions. I'm not convinced the article's subject is really notable, but that is a separate issue from the copyrighted promotional text that was removed, so your choice not to delete seems correct. As for usernames, I had one - but more than a decade ago, and I have deliberately ceased using it since then. The sometimes dismissive treatment of IP editors on Wikipedia is unfortunate, but it is nonetheless better than the sometimes corrosive personal politics that can arise between named editors who demand that there must be an identifiable opponent for them to be an opponent of. I have no interest in the latter, so endure the former readily. 50.248.234.77 (talk) 10:54, 15 June 2020 (UTC)

Kingdom of Northumbria
Hi shirt, could you take a look as an administrator at Kingdom of Northumbria edits. I'd like the opinion of third party admin. To take a look and help out. I'd like to assume good faith on behalf of the other two, but the requesting examples and then editing them seemed a tad off. thanks.Halbared (talk) 22:05, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
Honestly, I cannot really believe that you are trying to be the victim here. You have violated 3RR, you were then warned by two different editors and then you reverted a bit more. Vpab15 (talk) 22:14, 17 December 2020 (UTC)- I am not 'trying' to be anything. Please stop with your unhelpful assumptions. I'm seeking a third party for resolution. Asking or examples of style and then reverting is suspicious to me.Halbared (talk) 22:20, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
- I have removed that part. This is about 3RR. If you are not familiar with that policy you should have checked it when I messaged you on your talk page. Instead of that, you reverted again. Regarging the term British, I think a lot of people will find it confusing when used to refer to Celtic Britons when the term "Celtic Britons" is more clear and totally unambigous. Vpab15 (talk) 22:24, 17 December 2020 (UTC)

- I am not 'trying' to be anything. Please stop with your unhelpful assumptions. I'm seeking a third party for resolution. Asking or examples of style and then reverting is suspicious to me.Halbared (talk) 22:20, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
- Administrators do not decide content, and there are other appropriate venues listed on the dispute resolution policy to get additional opinions on content like WP:3O. I see this as an edit war and all parties involved are able to be blocked right now, but since this has stopped, I'm not going to do anything unless it resumes. Use the talkpage, talk it out, and get a third opinion. Don't use undo as your communication method. -- Amanda (aka DQ) 05:03, 18 December 2020 (UTC)

Spiteful Puppet
Hi - just a courtesy notice to let you know that I declined your A7 on Spiteful Puppet. I haven't reviewed the sources, so don't have a view on whether the company is notable or not, but the article asserts that one of their plays won a notable award (BBC Audio Drama Awards), which I think would constitute a claim of significance. If you think the sources aren't up to scratch, please nominate at AfD. Cheers GirthSummit (blether) 12:27, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
- Ah, shucks - just realised you're an admin with bucket loads of experience. Well, my opinion on the SIGNIF claim stands, but please ignore the patronising message about nominating at AfD - I'm pretty sure you know how to do that already... GirthSummit (blether) 12:29, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
Odd edit
This admin has been here 14 years, but I noticed him behaving strangely. Does anyone know if test/vandalism edits like this one are typical for the user? Sro23 (talk) 06:36, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

Lord Apex
Hi,
Hope you're well! Could you please provide me with some reasoning as to why you tagged Lord Apex as being potentially not notable? I'm quite careful with what articles I choose to upload and I'm confident he meets notability requirements. There's a whole load of sources on there including Carhartt, Crack Magazine and Clash Magazine - all three of which I've used as sources many times previously without a problem.
Thanks,
--The Flying Spaghetti Monster! 13:44, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
Hello admin, apologies for this random message. I noticed that you tagged this page under G7. I would like to ask if this is also eligible for speedy A3? --Ashleyyoursmile! 11:20, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
ADDA52
Dear Admin, Pardon me I might have limited knowledge. I wrote ADDA52 article myself with new sources from 2020,2021,2019 with the content. Why does the page delete under G4?
I visited WP:G4 and it reads "This applies to sufficiently identical copies, having any title, of a page deleted via its most recent deletion discussion.[3] It excludes pages that are not substantially identical to the deleted version, pages to which the reason for the deletion no longer applies, and content that has been moved to article space or converted to a draft for explicit improvement (but not simply to circumvent Wikipedia's deletion policy)."1друг (talk) 12:54, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
@Shirt58:, Please elaborate if the page is mistakenly taken down as based on WP:G4 it should not get deleted. Your opinion really matters to us. I am planning to create the page again, just because I spent the time and researched about the company. I am waiting for your opinion to enlighten me.1друг (talk) 16:11, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

Interface administrator changes
- A request for comment is open that proposes a process for the community to revoke administrative permissions. This follows a 2019 RfC in favor of creating one such a policy.
- A request for comment is in progress to remove F7 (invalid fair-use claim) subcriterion a, which covers immediate deletion of non-free media with invalid fair-use tags.
- A request for comment seeks to grant page movers the
delete-redirect
userright, which allows moving a page over a single-revision redirect, regardless of that redirect's target. The full proposal is at Wikipedia:Page mover/delete-redirect. - A request for comment asks if sysops may
place the General sanctions/Coronavirus disease 2019 editnotice template on pages in scope that do not have page-specific sanctions
? - There is a discussion in progress concerning automatic protection of each day's featured article with Pending Changes protection.
- When blocking an IPv6 address with Twinkle, there is now a checkbox with the option to just block the /64 range. When doing so, you can still leave a block template on the initial, single IP address' talkpage.
- When protecting a page with Twinkle, you can now add a note if doing so was in response to a request at WP:RfPP, and even link to the specific revision.
- There have been a number of reported issues with Pending Changes. Most problems setting protection appear to have been resolved (phab:T273317) but other issues with autoaccepting edits persist (phab:T275322).
- By motion, the discretionary sanctions originally authorized under the GamerGate case are now authorized under a new Gender and sexuality case, with sanctions

Sanctions issued under GamerGate are now considered Gender and sexuality sanctions. - The Kurds and Kurdistan case was closed, authorizing standard discretionary sanctions for
the topics of Kurds and Kurdistan, broadly construed

The article Richard Lacayo has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
WP:BEFORE shows subject does not meet or come close to meeting notability guidelines, namely WP:GNG, WP:BASIC, or WP:AUTHOR. While this author has clearly written numerous articles in notable sources such as Time, there's absolutely no way I can think of to construct a substantive encyclopedic entry in the subject's current state of reliable, independent coverage.
