DYK for Morning Star (1862 ship)
[edit]On 25 January 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Morning Star (1862 ship), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that after the Morning Star sank on Lake Erie, the death toll was unknown because many of the passengers were not on the ship's manifest? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Morning Star (1862 ship). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Morning Star (1862 ship)), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

cat: 20th-century Australian writers
[edit]This edit, and others like it, added the article to Category:20th-century Australian writers, but this is unnecessary, as the article is in the diffusing sub-Category:20th-century Australian novelists and Category:20th-century Australian short story writers, hence I've removed it, per WP:CATSPECIFIC, WP:SUBCAT. Please update your script or process to allow for existing diffusing categories. Mitch Ames (talk) 02:42, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
- Mitch Ames I did not take into account that it could already be in a specific enough category. I'll take care of this right now. Scorpions13256 (talk) 03:01, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
Non-diffusing categories?
[edit]Hello, I have articles on my watchlist that you have added categories to, and that is very much appreciated, but now I see you removing categories, such as Category:21st-century Indian writers and Category:20th-century Indian scientists from articles about women writers and women scientists - as a major caveat, I do not have a good grasp on the particulars, but there recently was a discussion at the Women in Red Talk page about non-diffusing categories that makes me wonder, at least for some of your edits, why the main category is being removed. Any clarification you can provide would be appreciated. Thank you very much, Beccaynr (talk) 04:59, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
- Beccaynr See the above discussion. You caught me just as I was done undoing a major series of mistakes. Scorpions13256 (talk) 05:02, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you, I think I understand now, especially after further review of the articles (I have many on my watchlist)... although I still have a question about Vera Hingorani who is a scientist and still categorized as Category:20th-century Indian women scientists, and Prem Chowdhry, categorized in Category:21st-century Indian scientists, but born in 1944 and active in the 20th-century. I am trying to learn more about how these things work, so thank you again, Beccaynr (talk) 05:16, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
- I actually do not know the explanation for that. I was only editing that way for consistency. I guess both categories could work if she was active in both centuries. Scorpions13256 (talk) 05:26, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you - I consider myself more of a "wikifairy", and have great appreciation for all of your gnoming work. I may cautiously add a category when it seems to work within the system, but I trust your much greater experience with this. Thanks again, Beccaynr (talk) 05:31, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
... Prem Chowdhry, categorized in Category:21st-century Indian scientists, but born in 1944 and active in the 20th-century...
— WP:COPCENTURY may be helpful here. Mitch Ames (talk) 05:35, 10 July 2021 (UTC)- Thank you, Mitch Ames, and I think I need to keep working on the article, and reorganize it a bit to better figure out how that guideline may apply. She may be fairly evenly split across the centuries, but I feel additional research is needed. Thanks again, Beccaynr (talk) 05:48, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

- @No Great Shaker: Wow! That is a lot of categories. I am busy with my internship, so I may be too busy until Tomorrow evening (24 hours from now). Pinging Lugnuts. I think the editor's Modus operandi is to read what genres are provided on an article and create the category for them. Just because the genre listed is "Western Drama", does not mean that we need a category for it. He has done mostly good work, but he goes overboard at times. DYK for Death of Steven Crawford
[edit]On 14 August 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Death of Steven Crawford, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that after the death of Steven Crawford, his body was found in 1963 but was not identified until 2020? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Death of Steven Crawford. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Death of Steven Crawford), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
