Question

[edit]

Wondering why you removed the reference to East Meadow, New York's nickname. Having grown up there and with a brother only recently graduated from EMHS, I know that this is a real nickname. I am a new contributor to Wiki so am just trying to figure out the best way to present information (not just nicknames). Thanks! Sflboogie (Talk)

Thanks for uploading Image:332279273_l.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

License tagging for Image:Oldindianalogo95.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Oldindianalogo95.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 20:09, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

The Parachute redux

[edit]

Who said I was "getting pissed off"? No harm, I just think an unreleased EP that was mainly distributed and assembled unofficially by fans does not need a seperate article. I merged it now, but it still lacks a source, so you're welcome to add that. --HarryCane 17:34, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Source Citation

[edit]

Sorry, new to wikipedia, i thought i had cited a source when i reverted back to my edit. The source is the band members themselves, talking to them frequently and having listened to the album on numerous occasions, i have seen an official tracklisting and have discussed it many times with the band. If i had saved the track listing, I would have uploaded the full copy, and I was just going off what i could remember. Sorry about the confusion, as I said, I didnt realise I hadnt cited a source, try not to get to hostile. I am working on getting a full tracklisting of Chris. nathen.

edit: would you be able to revert it back for me if you think the source is okay? it confuses me a little.

I reverted your edits to the Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs! article. On Wikipedia, we go by guidelines for song titles and section headers, not by the capitalisation posted on the band's official homepage. Regards, HarryCane 16:25, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Howdy! You've got to expand While the City Sleeps, We Rule the Streets, it currently falls under WP:CSD A1 and might be deleted soon if it doesn't grow a bit. Thanks! - CHAIRBOY () 03:22, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Motion City Soundtrack article

You say that fan sites are not allowed to be linked in the External Links, but I fail to see how they do not meet the qualifications listed... or I don't see where it says to exclude fan sites: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:External_links

Also, why is a site like a lyrics site allowed but not a fan site? -- Molly1984

Reply October 16, 2006 11:18pm Okay fair enough, if that is how you feel. I mainly am asking because this is supposed to be "unbiased", and since it was one of my sites that was removed I'd have to ask other people if it was useful. I honestly felt it was useful, andit has a lot more than the artist's official site. And I actually contributed most of the information to create the individual band member profiles on here, so maybe it is less useful now that all that information is on here now. -- Molly1984

Thanks for uploading Image:Danprp.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

LLR

[edit]

Thanks for trying to keep the LLR entry alive. I've tried to make a 504 Plan article on 3 separate occasions but it's been deleted each time so I've given up on that. Still, LLR deserves to remain an article. Thanks. [email protected] 02:07, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hey, I've tried making a 5o4plan article too and it also got deleted because there are no third-party sources. If you have your page saved, I'd love to see it. Maybe if we meshed ours together there'd be enough to consider it being worthy for Wikipedia. Also I totally agree that LLR deserves an article too. Orphaned fair use image (Image:Danprp.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Danprp.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Fritz S. (Talk) 14:43, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

The current information on the page is false and was put there by a IP spammer right before you protected the page. Is there a way that you can put the proper information in and then reprotect it. The proper information is provided in the Talk page for the article. Thanks a lot. --Russ is the sex 22:34, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you have a source for your suggestion, I'd consider it. However, consider posting your request to the talk page of the article with {{editprotected}}. -- tariqabjotu 22:38, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I gave three sources on the talk page. But I will restate my post on your talk page. The proper tracklisting should read as follows:

  1. "Thriller"
  2. "The Take Over, The Breaks Over"
  3. "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race" - 3:32
  4. "I'm Like a Lawyer with the Way I'm Always Trying to Get You Off (Me & You)"
  5. "Hum Hallelujah"
  6. "Golden"
  7. "Thnks fr th Mmrs"
  8. "The (After) Life of the Party"
  9. "The Carpal Tunnel of Love" - 3:23
  10. "Bang the Doldrums"
  11. "Fame < Infamy"
  12. "You're Crashing, but You're No Wave"
  13. "I've Got All This Ringing in my Ears and One on my Fingers"

Confirmed at [2][3][4] Someone should fix it, because the information on the page is currently false. --Russ is the sex 02:08, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I made the requested change. -- tariqabjotu 02:14, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:1-800-MUSIC-NOW.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:1-800-MUSIC-NOW.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Unspecified source for Image:CobraStarshipPromo.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:CobraStarshipPromo.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:MindlessSelfIndulgenceAlienatingOurAudience.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:17, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have tagged Image:Bhcd.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. Orphaned non-free image (Image:Bringitonsmall.JPG)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Bringitonsmall.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Fair use disputed for Image:Girlslikeitshort.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Girlslikeitshort.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 02:28, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Template:User roller coaster enthusiast requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Speedy deletion of LLR Recordings

A tag has been placed on LLR Recordings requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Notability of Modern Art Records

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Modern Art Records requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. --Geniac (talk) 13:37, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Chrisnsn.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? J Milburn (talk) 15:57, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Meandmyuke.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 17:44, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you can establish a level of consistent, heavy vandalism ala George W. Bush, then it merits indefinite semi-protection. Anything less doesn't merit that severity of protection, to my understanding of the protection policy. The article The Yippee has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Appears to fail WP:NALBUMS due to lack of WP:GNG. My search only turned up press release type coverage.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. A tag has been placed on File:Stereoskyline2007.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria. If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the file can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{Non-free fair use}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the file. If the file has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Notice

The article Better Looking Records has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:NCORP. No WP:SIGCOV about the otherwise unremarkable record company. Cannot find WP:RS that point to notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
