Good start!

Hi Qwertyp23! Glad to see you got things up and running. Please edit your user page proposed articles into list form. I haven't checked your edits yet, but will soon. Keep going! I think sports is a brilliant area for you to focus. Prof.Vandegrift (talk) 03:43, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

Suggestions

Hello again!

I think you're heading in the right direction. The global aspect of Organization for Youth Empowerment has a definite draw. Remember that you'll want to link articles to this page because it's an orphan. Besides editing the Youth in Honduras section, think about some other ideas for sections you could add. Good luck!

Check out suggested articles

Hi, Qwertyp23! Check out some of the articles suggested on this page. There might be one related to sports that would be appropriate. Also, can you please provide peer feedback to classmates? Prof.Vandegrift (talk) 02:32, 18 September 2013 (UTC)

My proposed topic

Gender in youth sports is a Wikipedia page that caught my eye and I find interesting. It relates to sports, which is a topic that I have a good understanding and know a lot about the subject. I think the gender aspect opens up a lot of different directions when talking about sport. There are definitely different reasons why male and females participate in sports and it is interesting to find out what these are. I would like to research some statistics about participation of youths in sport across the world and find out the differences in numbers. This is lacking in the introduction.

This page informs us about the opportunities that both youth males and females have available to them. It also discusses the role that adults play. Adults can volunteer to help out the youth and encourage them. This is once section that I would like to edit and in-put organizations that support this. As stated before, introduction needs work so that is definitely an area I can improve.

I also plan on creating linking other articles to it. I can research related topics and organizations, which are involved in youth sports and link these. Statistics is an area that I am going to research on a global scale. I can compare the figures and find reasons for why these numbers exist. When I find information about the organizations involved in improving youth sports, I can include this information within the article.

Topic Feedback

Hi Ravi,

Great ideas, this definitely has a lot of potential. If you're interested in working on the adult role section of the page, think about discussing mentorship programs and youth. I would also suggest spending most of the time working on the lead paragraph and linking the article to others because that's what the wikipedia community has designated as the biggest problems with the piece. The article could also use some cosmetic updating. For instance, the subheadings used in the sections are quite irregular-- the bold font and small size of headings. Looks good!

Good selection of topic - onward and upward!

Qwertyp23, Hello! You have identified a topic, and we are all in agreement that the lead paragraph needs work. I urge you to start making time each day to locate an article on gender in youth sports from a global perspective. Is there an encyclopedia of gender and sports or youth sports that would have an entry with useful information? What are the basic findings available that analyze gender and youth in sports from a sociological perspective? This will help you locate specific information to include. I urge you to begin as soon as possible so we can give you feedback along the way.

Finally, please check to see you’ve done the to-do items on my September 26 post on our course talk page. Cheers. Prof.Vandegrift (talk) 15:56, 2 October 2013 (UTC)

Draft Feedback

Qwertyp23,

Good start on the draft! Some things you could improve upon would be a reformatting of the sandbox. It's hard to see how the article will look and if you have hyperlinks because of how the article visually looks right now. Two suggestions on fixing that issue: The first-- so you don't lose any work you've done-- cut and paste the sandbox into a word document; go to the page you're working on and enter the edit tab, copy and paste the entire article into the sandbox again. Otherwise, create a new sandbox with the formatting and all of the article displayed correctly in it (you can do this by following the last part of instructions from the first option). It would also be nice if you included in the sandbox, at the top, what parts of the article you worked on. I guessed that you did statistics and responsibility, so that's all i've looked at. In these sections, I honestly like the information that's included. It would be nice to see a little more of it. Go through the sections you've done and add more global examples. If you have time, you can even add more global examples throughout the article.
