Charles Gonthier
[edit]An edit you made to this page a number of years ago, which remains active, included wikifying a link to Georges Gonthier, the father of Charles Gonthier. Unfortunately your link appears to actually point to Georges Gonthier, the mathematician, who was born in the 1960's and is definitely not old enough to have been the father of Charles Gonthier. May I ask that you make a suitable correction to the page if you deem it appropriate? Ordinarily this is a change I would make myself but because I know Georges Gonthier, the mathematician, personally I do not consider it appropriate for me to make this change. Dash77 (talk) 00:50, 5 March 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for requesting this in the way that you did! I have removed the incorrect wiklink. Best wishes, Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 02:23, 5 March 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the prompt update! Dash77 (talk) 23:00, 5 March 2024 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of User:Charliesouza/Charlie Souza
[edit]A tag has been placed on your user page, User:Charliesouza/Charlie Souza, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be advertising which only promotes or publicises someone or something. Promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, whether it be promotion of a person, company, product, group, service, belief, or anything else. This is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages — user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources or advertising space. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Warning after revert
[edit]Hello Dearest admin,
I saw you reverted on Colin Jost without warning the new user. Trying to welcome the new user, I saw his contribs and just drove-by to tell you. They may be a new editor that don't know some things here on Wikipedia. The message of revert is not enough. I hope this sets as a reminder (as I also know there are many works you have to cover). Thanks and keep doing good as you always have done! Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 01:56, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hello, User:SafariScribe. Thank you for the reminder, and thanks as well for adding a welcome message to the new user. If I might offer one piece of feedback to you: I would not have made the suggestion to the new editor that Jost's height might be added to his infobox. We don't do that unless the person is notable for their height, or if it is relevant, such as if they are a sportsperson. Best wishes, Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 02:15, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
- Welp, I understand. Thanks for that. I am just making sure the new users are welcomed like any other editors, since most of the vandals at some point are seen in users not welcomed with links to editing. Thanks though! Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 02:19, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
Administrators' newsletter – May 2024
[edit]News and updates for administrators from the past month (April 2024).
- Phase I of the 2024 requests for adminship review has concluded. Several proposals have passed outright and will proceed to implementation, including creating a discussion-only period (3b) and administrator elections (13) on a trial basis. Proposals passed on a trial basis will be discussed in Phase II, after their trials conclude. Further details on specific proposals can be found in the full report.
- Partial action blocks are now in effect on the English Wikipedia. This means that administrators have the ability to restrict users from certain actions, including uploading files, moving pages and files, creating new pages, and sending thanks. T280531
- The arbitration case Conflict of interest management has been closed.
- This may be a good time to reach out to potential nominees to ask if they would consider an RfA.
- A New Pages Patrol backlog drive is happening in May 2024 to reduce the number of unreviewed articles in the new pages feed. Currently, there is a backlog of over 15,000 articles awaiting review. Sign up here to participate!
- Voting for the Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) election is open until 9 May 2024. Read the voting page on Meta-Wiki and cast your vote here!
Hong Chau
[edit]I just reverted here edits that seem like the ones you reverted. What is the main account? Do we need to request semi-protection for Hong Chau? Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 13:54, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi. Thanks, Erik. Yes, that's User:Newboy78641 evading their block. Semi-protection is probably a good idea. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 15:31, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
Article for Sam Feldman
[edit]Hi Paul Erik, I work for Canadian music executive Sam Feldman, and I'm trying to create a Wikipedia article for him. I see that you are part of WP:WikiProject Canadian music, and I'm hoping that you will take a look at the draft I have posted here. Would you consider moving it to main space?
Thank you, Sarah for SF (talk) 17:24, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Sarah for SF. I won't have the time needed to review your draft any time soon; my apologies. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 01:30, 31 May 2024 (UTC)

[edit]I see someone is always changing the photo to a drawing one, and I was wondering if the page could be blocked to edit the page like they do for some pages? Veganpurplefox (talk) 16:50, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Veganpurplefox. One user was blocked for that edit warring, and I added a warning to the IP who also changed the picture yesterday. I would wait, but if the disruption continues, yes, we could request page protection at WP:RFPPI. For more information, see Wikipedia:Protection policy. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 22:00, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
- Ok good! Veganpurplefox (talk) 22:03, 21 June 2024 (UTC)

Disruptive editing
[edit]Hello,
I'm a little concerned about the pattern of editing by Dhjskxis on the Texas Hold EM page. He is continually adding unsourced data and not using neutral wording. For instance, his latest edit of "Sadly, the song was already out of the top 10 by it’s 9th week, and charted an underwhelming total of 12 weeks in the country" had no source/citation to confirm this, but also the wording is non-neutral/negatively slanted. I have reverted his edits (although i somehow made a hash of that, and initially somehow reverted my own reverts) and have left a note on his talk page to ask him to use the the Texas Hold Em talk page to discuss any future controversial edits. But i'm concerned, because he seems to be on a personal mission to somehow prove the song was "local" and his edits are becoming disruptive. Do you think the page needs some level of protection? There's a lot of disruptive editing and some vandalism. Thank you. Koppite1 (talk) 07:50, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hello Koppite1. Semi-protection would not prevent Dhjskxis from editing the page, since they are autoconfirmed. Full protection would be too drastic – it would prevent everyone from editing. I see that you warned Dhjskxis, as I have previously done. At some point, if they continue their disruption, they could be blocked to prevent the disruption, which would be the more typical route for something like this situation, in which it is an issue with a single account. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 23:26, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
Katherine Ryan
[edit]Hi there. I notice you reverted an edit to Katherine Ryan citing WP:BLPNAME as your reason for doing so. I don't think this necessarily applies in this case, as looking at this link it says When the name of a private individual has not been widely disseminated or has been intentionally concealed
and The presumption in favor of privacy is strong in the case of family members of articles' subjects and other loosely involved, otherwise low-profile persons.
Neither of those would appear to apply in the case of Ryan's children, as her first child has been discussed on multiple shows, and all three children have appeared in her fly-on-the-wall docuseries Parental Guidance. Arguably her eldest at least is a minor public figure in her own right now. I mention this in case you're not aware of the docuseries in particular. Best regards JustAnotherCompanion (talk) 00:12, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks. I was not aware of the docuseries. Best wishes. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 01:36, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
I completely forgot that when editing on mobile, that section also gets removed. Annoying, I should have checked. Thanks for restoring the cats. Knitsey (talk) 02:21, 3 August 2024 (UTC)
- Sure; no worries. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 02:23, 3 August 2024 (UTC)

The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}

Matt3535 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log) requests unblock. Given how long ago it was, inclined to unblock. Thanks. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 15:27, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
Hi, Paul. If you look at the UTRS request you will see my comment there, but in case you are one of the administrators who don't touch UTRS, here is a copy of it, with personal information redacted:
- If it were just up to me, I would go right ahead and unblock. I did all sorts of stupid things when I was [the age the editor says they were at the time of the block] that it would have been unreasonable to hold against me when I was [the age the editor is now, 6 years later]. JBW (talk) 16:56, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- Six years is a long time. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 17:24, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- It is! Please go ahead and unblock. I don't have access to UTRS. Thanks very much for letting me know. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 20:38, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
