The article Wong Shoon Keat has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Ong Poh Lim

[edit]

Hi Oahid, i hve editing Ong Poh Lim article based on Wikipedia rules MOS:OVERLINK and MOS:INFOBOXFLAG. May i know why are u reverted my editing in that article? Stvbastian (talk) 04:21, 6 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Stvbastian, u made an edit to line 32 "represented Malaya and Singapore." which is not factual. Poh Lim only represented Malaya. Singapore is still a state under Malaya back then. Hence the revert.Oahid (talk) 04:31, 6 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If the problem only in line 32 "represented Malaya and Singapore", you should fixed the error instead reverted my edits. And i think, using "Malayan/Singaporean" is ambiguous.Stvbastian (talk) 04:56, 6 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
sure understood noo problem, however, I will change back to "Malayan/Singaporean" because he is both a Malayan first and then a Singaporean after independence. Unfortunately, that's the history for the region. thanks.Oahid (talk) 05:30, 6 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
So, he is a Singaporean badminton player? Stvbastian (talk) 05:50, 6 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
to simplify, he is.Oahid (talk) 07:11, 6 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Loh Kean Yew

[edit]

The phrase which claims that the "The Loh family speaks Penang Hokkien at home" could not be substantiated. Did you add this? The non-English source that follows it also leads nowhere and does not support the text. It seems likely to be original research based upon his family's location. 219.122.219.225 (talk) 15:08, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 219.122.219.225, it is not added by me. You might want to check with Chipmunkdavis, who kept reverting this edit back when 103.154.138.40 remove it. Thanks.

Personal life section in BLPs

[edit]

Hi,

I have noticed that you have shifted the Personal life section up to the top. Do note that biographies are typically written in chronological order. Do keep to the convention that biographies should start with Early life section containing details of the early life before the start of the next section, i.e. Career. If there are other life events happening after the time period covered up till Early life section, it should go below the Career section. See also: Template:Biography, MOS:BLPCHRONO. – robertsky (talk) 08:06, 29 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Also, don't include dating news if there is no further outcome from the relationship. – robertsky (talk) 08:07, 29 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion to create a new article called Badminton in Singapore

[edit]

Hi there, thanks for all the hard work in badminton related articles for Singapore. I think you might be interested in creating an article Badminton in Singapore, similar to Badminton in India as this will be a more central article about the badminton scene in Singapore. Of course, this is just a suggestion.

If you are interested, I would suggest working in your sandbox or in draft first, then once completed and moved to mainspace, you can nominate your work to WP:DYK with an interesting line to attract people to read the article. The DYK will be on Wikipedia's main page and will attract many views. Once again, thanks for improving the badminton coverage in Singapore! Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 07:26, 5 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Dear editor, i will probably do that in the near future. But for now I'm trying to gather/sort out all the facts and data points first. Singapore had a lots of badminton history, and should not be forgotten. Oahid (talk) 09:34, 5 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I see you have created the article~! Well done and thank you! Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 01:59, 9 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the "spam" but do considering nominating your article to WP:DYK, it will be a showcase of your work and the article. DYK attracts a lot of eyeballs in the first few days that it is up and serves as a good avenue of bringing attention to the article. Some articles have noticeably improved also after being featured in a DYK for the day. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 02:15, 9 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
thanks, had nominated the article! Oahid (talk) 08:15, 9 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Badminton in Singapore

[edit]

On 1 October 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Badminton in Singapore, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that badminton in Singapore began in the early 19th century? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Badminton in Singapore. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Badminton in Singapore), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Wong Peng Soon

[edit]

In the lead you mentioned his wins in the Philippines & India Open. But a quick look confirms there were no such tournaments in the days he played. Maybe you mean they were some lesser known International events which we do not have articles about? For example see Hadiyanto. zoglophie 07:06, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Zoglophie, u are right, im referring to the lesser known open tournament of the yester years. In order to avoid confusion, I will change it to the Indian and Philippines championships instead of India and Philippines Open. Oahid (talk) 08:35, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrolled granted

[edit]

Hi Oahid, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.

Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.

Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 17:14, 7 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Much thanks! Oahid (talk) 14:15, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Oahid, where did you find the Chinese name of Chor Hooi Yee.-- Terry850324 (talk) 16:32, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm looking for a source to prove her Chinese name, but I can't find any Chinese article by searching on Baidu and Google with keyword "崔厚仪". Do you remember the source? -- Terry850324 (talk) 02:43, 11 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Tang Xianhu

[edit]

Hello Oahid, can you please provide reference for the 1978 Asian Games mixed doubles final score? Because I got a completely different score from Sin Chew Jit Poh. You can refer to this newspaper from here. It could just be translation problem as I don't know a word of Mandarin. Thanks. zoglophie•talk• 10:20, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

For this, thanks for flagging out. Unfortunately, I cannot seem to find where I get the data from, should be from some Chinese website. Since Sin Chew Jit Poh is more reliable, I would suggest to use the result from there. The score is 15-8, 17-16 in favor of China. Thanks! Oahid (talk) 02:19, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also, can you please clarify the Women's doubles final score from that site as well? Many thanks. zoglophie•talk• 10:22, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Zoglophie, the women's double score as shown in Sin Chew Jit Poh is 17-14, 15-4 in Indonesia favor. Oahid (talk) 02:14, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wong Peng Soon, Ong Poh Lim

[edit]

Great contributions to badminton in Singapore and Malaysia, I hope you will do this for a long time! For Wong Peng Soon, Ong Poh Lim I read some longer times ago, that they had some trouble with the Singapore association, and both switched for one year to Johor [1]. Feel free to re-find this. Florentyna (talk) 20:28, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Florentyna,
Thank you for reaching out! I've always admired your contributions to both the German and English wikis. I've taken note of the issue you raised, and I'd like to share my perspective on it. Historically, Malaya or the Straits Settlements (Singapore) did not become a sovereign nation until 1957 and 1965 respectively. Before that, they were all under British colonial rule. In my editing approach, I focus on whether the individual is from either Malaysia or Singapore, as these are the two entities that emerged from the split with Britain after each gained its independence. Given that Wong Peng Soon and Ong Poh Lim are Singaporean, it make sense that we should attribute them as such irregardless of a year of shenanigan between the association and its players.
