Post-nominals

[edit]

Stop adding in post-nominals. It is against Wikipedia policy and they are automatically deleted. FearÉIREANN\(caint) 12:53, 17 June 2006 (UTC) [reply]

A tag has been placed on Carlos Maria Cardinal de la Torre, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Nicola Canali

[edit]

I am confused as to why you created Nicola Cardinal Canali on May 21, when I created Nicola Canali (including "Cardinal" in an article's title is not in conformity with Wikipedia's Manual of Style) the day before. Moreover, it seems as if you simply copied the contents of my article and placed it in your article. Tajm, 23 May 2007, 20:49 (UTC)

Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Seville

[edit]

Hi LCahill,

As you may be aware, your original entry has been tagged as requiring 'wikification'.

The article opens with comments on the 3rd and 4th centuries; we are now in the 21 century! I'm sure a lot more happened in the 17 centuries that occurred in between particularly in the 15th century!

The churches within the Archdiocese would also be an interesting addition.

I look forward to hearing your comments.

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Brendan Kelly (bishop), and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.ferns.ie/News_And_Views/2007_11_20_Kelly.shtml. It is very nice that you are interested in the History of the Roman Catholic Church subject. You may see that page (Wikipedia:WikiProject Catholicism) for further information.

Citing Vatican appointments

[edit]

I've noticed that articles referring to Papal appointments are using citations in the form "212.77.1.245/news_services/bulletin/news/24171.php?index=24171&lang=en". Several different editors are taking this approach, so I thought it might be helpful to explain a better way to add these references. I've pasted the explanation here in case it is useful, but that doesn't mean I'm accusing you personally of doing citations incorrectly! For example, the citation supporting the Peter Brian Wells article, reads http://212.77.1.245/news_services/bulletin/news/24171.php?index=24171&lang=en#NOMINA DELL’ARCIVESCOVO DI SPOLETO-NORCIA (ITALIA)
There are three problems with this reference:

  1. Explicit IP addresses aren't stable: "212.77.1.245" at the start of the URL is an "IPv4 address" that will change in future, in the short term if the Vatican wishes to re-configure their websites and in the long term when all available IPv4 addresses are in use. Instead of explicitly stating "212.77.1.245", the address "seraphin.vatican.va" should be used, which should remain correct in the long term.
  2. The anchor hasn't been checked: in fact "#NOMINA DELL’ARCIVESCOVO DI SPOLETO-NORCIA (ITALIA)" refers to the wrong part of the page (it should be "#NOMINA DELL’ASSESSORE PER GLI AFFARI GENERALI DELLA SEGRETERIA DI STATO").
  3. The {{cite web}} template wasn't used: this helps to ensure that sufficient parameters are present for modern academic referencing. In the Peter Brian Wells example, this would be:
<ref>{{cite web
| url=http://seraphin.vatican.va/news_services/bulletin/news/24171.php?index=24171#NOMINA DELL’ASSESSORE PER GLI AFFARI GENERALI DELLA SEGRETERIA DI STATO
| title=RINUNCE E NOMINE
| language=Italian
| trans_title=Resignations & Appointments
| publisher=Vatican Information Service
| date=2009-07-16
| accessdate=2009-10-07
}}</ref>

BTW once the reference has been converted from an inline URL to a {{cite web}} citation, a "References" section should be added to the article if it doesn't already have one. The text for this (which goes towards the end of the article, after "see also" and before any "external links" is:

==References==
{{reflist}}

I recognize that in general other editors are adding references to articles that you have already created, but I would ask you to check that the references are fixed in your recently created articles, and to add the necessary {{cite web}} references when you create new articles in future. Thanks - Pointillist (talk) 23:33, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Citing news sources in articles

[edit]

I've just noticed that in the Fiachra Ó Ceallaigh article you've inlined a reference to irishtimes.com. The correct way to cite a news article is to use {{cite news}} if the article appeared in the print edition of a newspaper/magazine, and {{cite web}} otherwise. In this instance the online story is tagged "This article appears in the print edition of the Irish Times" so {{cite news}} is appropriate, like this:

<ref>{{cite news
| url=http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2009/0918/1224254802500.html
| title=Retirement of auxiliary bishop
| author=Patsy McGarry
| publisher=[[The Irish Times]]
| date=2009-09-18
}}</ref>

Hope this helps in future - Pointillist (talk) 23:51, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Couple of things

[edit]

Hi there! I've been taking a look at some of your articles. They are pretty interesting, but a couple of things might be useful for you. Firstly, try to use the <ref></ref> tags rather than just leaving URLs in the text. Also, please be aware of project tags for the talk pages and default sorting for categories. Cheers! A tag has been placed on Yousif Habash requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Codf1977 (talk) 15:45, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Yousif Habash has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Speedy deletion of "Cathal Magee"

[edit]

A page you created, Cathal Magee, has been tagged for deletion, as it meets one or more of the criteria for speedy deletion; specifically, it is about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how they are important or significant, and thus why they should be included in an encyclopedia. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and the guidelines for biographies in particular.

You are welcome to contribute content which complies with our content policies and any applicable inclusion guidelines. However, please do not simply re-create the page with the same content. You may also wish to read our introduction to editing and guide to writing your first article.

I've now had the pallium removed from the coat of arms in Commons and so also in all the wikipedias that draw on Commons. Esoglou (talk) 10:48, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I don't know if you will reply because you have only once used a talk page in five years. It appears to me as if many of your contributions are new articles, and the last several that I have checked were all copyright violations, as they were either machine translations of an Internet source, or copied direct from a foreign-language Wikipedia without attribution. I would strongly suggest that you familiarize yourself with Wikipedia's policy and copyright law. Start with Wikimedia:Terms of Use, Wikipedia:FAQ/Copyright and Wikipedia:Copy-paste. Thank you. Hello, LCahill, welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions. Your editing pattern indicates that you may be using multiple accounts or coordinating editing with people outside Wikipedia. Our policy on multiple accounts usually does not allow this. If you operate multiple accounts directly or with the help of another person, please remember to disclose these connections. I noticed that 86.45.11.224 edits all the same articles that you do. Is that your IP address? Elizium23 (talk) 15:53, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your name has been mentioned in connection with a sockpuppetry case. Please refer to Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/LCahill for evidence. Please make sure you make yourself familiar with the guide to responding to cases before editing the evidence page. Elizium23 (talk) 02:22, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Catholic-Hierarchy.org

[edit]

Hello. I noticed that you have edited a number of articles on Catholicism. A discussion is taking place as to whether the website Catholic-Hierarchy.org is a reliable source that can be utilized on Wikipedia or whether all references and information derived from it should be deleted. This topic is currently being discussed at the Reliable Sources Noticeboard [1]. As the website's removal as a reference will affect several thousand Wikipedia articles, I believe that the broadest range of opinions should be obtained before action is taken. Please contribute if interested.Patapsco913 (talk) 22:07, 3 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
