A tag has been placed on Israel Segal requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Cheers, CP 14:45, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Ellen johnson-sirleaf thumb.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Ellen johnson-sirleaf thumb.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 13:06, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Notability of Steel Prophet

[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Steel Prophet, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Steel Prophet seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Steel Prophet, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. [edit]

Many of the bands you entered are already on the list. It is not an alphabetical list. There are numerous sub-genre listings that are alpha based. That list is intended to be a support piece for the main article. It should resemble featured lists such as the List of Telecaster players. You edit also included flag icons which have been discussed across many Wikipedia projects and are not to be used as simple decorations see WP:MOSFLAG. Anger22 (Talk 2 22) 15:07, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

One other thing to note about the "list of X metal bands" is that most of them have been nominated for deletion since alphabetical lists do nothing that a category doesn't already do. That is why the list of heavy metal bands is altered away from that format. Because if it is an alpha list it is pretty much useless. I see that the List of thrash metal bands has been improved in order to stave of elimination. The list of folk metal bands is also a bit more than just an alpha list. The list of heavy metal bands is one of those "work in progress" articles that has a foundation for expansion but has slipped through the cracks as far as improvement goes. If you want to see a plain list of heavy metal bands that already exists. See: Category:Musical groups by nationality. Every heavy metal bands is among those nationality pages. If you want a project. Category:Heavy metal musical groups is a category that has been added to dozens of music articles incorrectly. All the artists that have that category need to have it removed/replaced by the proper "Category:'X Country' heavy metal musical groups". Those categories replace the need for a simple alpha list. But the categories are a bit sloppy and need someone to correct them. Also don't forget to sign your talk page posts with 4 'tildes' ~~~~ . Anger22 (Talk 2 22) 16:21, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Rise To Addiction

Blaze/Bayley

[edit]

I had originally made the same change myself, but then decided that a person coming to the Blaze disambig was more likely to have been looking for the older name of the band (BLAZE) than the newer one (Blaze Bayley, like the vocalist). So I reversed it, and had "BLAZE - now known as Blaze Bayley" rather than "Blazy Bayley - formerly known as BLAZE"...I still like this vers. better, but if you feel otherwise, it's such a minor issue that I'll just leave it :D Mr. IP Defender of Open Editing 10:59, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for File:Album Memories of a Forgotten Age cover.jpg.jpg}

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Album Memories of a Forgotten Age cover.jpg.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Proposed deletion of List of KAT band members

[edit]

The article List of KAT band members has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No content. Article subject does not warrant a separate article outside Kat (band)

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Friedrich Adolph Wislizenus

Hi Hoodinski. I wasn't sure when you would be back to the Friedrich Adolph Wislizenus article when I added a few categories. Just one thing you might be interested in: the lifetime template automatically sorts the categories for any added to the article, much like the DEFAULTSORT template, so you don't need to add sort keys to any other categories. Saves time :) . Anyway, keep up the good work. FlowerpotmaN·(t) 13:21, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jezhotwells (talk) 01:53, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What did Gaspar Tochman do that would make an article about him appropriate for Wikipedia? So far all that was listed in the deleted article was that he fought in the US Civil War, apparently as a n ordinary soldier, since no rank or command is mentioned. Hundreds of thousands of people did that. What makes Gaspar Tochman notable?
If I were the deleting admin (which I am not), and if you had a reasonable answer to the above, i would move a copy of the deleted article to a page in your user space, such as User:Hoodinski/Gaspar Tochman/draft. There you could work on it until it was ready to move back to the main article space. You could also start in new article in such a location. drafts in userspace are far less subject to speedy deletion (although copyright violations and advertisements and such do still get deleted). DES (talk) 15:09, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewing the Google hits for Gaspar Tochman, it looks like something more can be said about him so I'm going to restore the article. Please make a statement in the article about why Tochman was notable, and be sure to add some reliable sources. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 19:04, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sejm (Łotwa)

[edit]

Hi, my Polish skills are insufficient, therefore I decided to contact you here, although the problem revolves an entry in the Polish Wikipedia: http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sejm_łotewski

I would greatly appreciate if you could comment on my concerns regarding the name of the article - I'm quite certain that the authors of it have erroneously assumed that the name of the Latvian parliament (Saeima) means "Sejm" or is somehow derived from the Polish/Lithuanian word or has it's roots in Polish or Lithuanian. The truth is that the word only looks similar to it's Polish counterpart, but has it's own seperate history, so to speak.

In other words, I currently consider it a distortion of the name of the Latvian parliament. Can the difference be possibly explained by some Polish linguistic rules or is it really just a mistake? Kursis (talk) 16:47, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've explained it here: Saeima;
here's a copy of the paragraph: "The word "Saeima" meaning "a gathering, a meeting, a council" was constructed by the Young Latvian Juris Alunāns. It stems from the archaic Latvian word eima meaning "to go" (derived from the PIE *ei "to go" and also a cognate with the Ancient Greek eimi, Gaulish eimu among others)"
The word Saeima is now used only as the name of the Latvian parliament (you won't see the word saeima, as it's never written with the smaller case 's'), it is not used as a regular word to describe any other kinds of meetings, councils or the parliaments of other countries.
The question is, do you translate the names of other parliaments in Polish? Saeima is analogous to Althing or Riigikogu - it might mean something, but it's essentially a proper noun. If you translate all the proper nouns in Polish, "Sejm" could be the most appropriate translation. If you don't, it certainly is a mistake. Kursis (talk) 20:26, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A doubt

[edit]

Hi, Hoodinski. It's nice to meet you. I saw the File:Boshin war.svg you created and I found it great. I wonder if you still create maps? IF yes, were you willing to do one for me? It's quite simple, probably more simple than the Boshin War map. I've finished Uruguayan War and I plan to nominate it to FAC. But I need a decent map. You could use File:Mapa guerra do uruguai.png as the basis for your map. I would be really grateful if you could lend me a hand. Regards, --Lecen (talk) 15:17, 9 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, you were fast. Thank you very much! --Lecen (talk) 16:23, 9 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The map looks amazing! That's what I was looking for: a professional-looking map. I'm really grateful, Hoodinski. I noticed that you forgot to add an "x" on the town of Salto. Could you do it? Also, perhaps it would be better to add different colors to both Argentina and Brazil (but neutral colors, which wouldn't call too much attention). Lastly, I'm beginning to work at Platine War (the "prequel" to Uruguayan War). Would you be interested in helping me with a map for it (I want to keep a standard on all these articles about wars in the region)? It would be even more simple than the one you made. Regards, --Lecen (talk) 11:26, 13 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
In that case, I have a harder task for you, if you don't mind. :) This is a map I created to use at both Uruguayan War and Paraguayan War. Could you create one based on it with a better look? --Lecen (talk) 14:46, 13 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
If possible, could you give to the countries the same color you gave in File:Uruguayan War.svg? I really want to maintain a standard. --Lecen (talk) 15:38, 13 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Would you mind adding Mena Barreto's full name (José Luís Mena Barreto, notice that there is an "´" on the "i") into the map you created ("José Luís Mena Barreto's attack on Melo")? I had forgotten that there is another Mena Barreto (his uncle and superior) in the war, which is far more mentioned than him. --Lecen (talk) 19:41, 14 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm really sorry. I was really dumb. Instead of adding a large name as "José Luís Mena Barreto" you should merely change to "Brazilian attack on Melo".--Lecen (talk) 12:44, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It looks far better than I hoped. It's perfect! Only one problem: you spelled "Urugay" instead of "Uruguay". I laughed a lot because it reminded me of The Simpsons' episode Blame It on Lisa when Homer misspelled the country's name "You-are-gay". You should also take the "´" off from the "i" in "Bolivia" (in Portuguese it has the "í" but not in English) both in the map and in the white box. --Lecen (talk) 12:01, 18 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I just noticed (sorry for not doing it earlier) that you also forgot to add "Apa R." which runs side by side with Branco R. (see File:Territorial disputes in the Platine region in 1864.png). --Lecen (talk) 13:17, 18 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about that. I uploaded a map that might help you: File:Mapt to be erased.jpg. I realized that the contested area between Brazil and Paraguay is far larger. The book I used as source got it wrong. You can see a colored map that might help you fix the one you made: File:Krigsteater trippelalliansekrigen.png. There is no need to add the names of the Maracaju and Amambai Mountain ranges (be careful not to add the line that looks like a river but actually represents Maracaju Mountain range). --Lecen (talk) 14:58, 18 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

New requests

[edit]

Hi, Hoodinski. I'm working on Portuguese invasion of the Eastern Bank (1811–1812), my next FAC. It's a war that occurred in the very same region as Uruguayan War, but only 50 years earlier. I'll need two maps: one of the Platine region just like File:Territorial disputes in the Platine region in 1864.svg and File:Uruguayan War.svg. For the time being, forget the second one. I created two maps to help you out:

What the map of the Platine region in 1811 differs from the one in 1864:

  1. The names: Bolivia was called "Upper Peru", Argentina was "Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata", Uruguay was "Eastern Bank" and Brazil was "State of Brazil" (a Portuguese colony). Paraguay was still Paraguay.
  2. All borders are exactly the same, with one exception: the United Province's southern border. The future Argentina was much smaller than it would be later. I recommend this map: File:Mapa ARGENTINA frontera.png (keep yourself with the 1771 border as seen in the map).
  3. The disputed territories are even greater. The Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata broke itself in different parts: Upper Peru, Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata, Paraguay and the Eastern Bank. All the disputed territories in 1864 are still valid, but there are more now. The Viceroyalty regarded Paraguay, Eastern Bank and Upper Peru as part of its territory (see the map I created).

Well, if it wasn't for the last item this map would be even easier, but unfortunately, it isn't. Could you do it? --Lecen (talk) 23:13, 26 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much! Take your time! --Lecen (talk) 18:26, 27 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much, Hoodinski. The map is almost perfect. Only two details: could you change where is written "United Provinces" to "Viceroyalty"? Also, Is there any way you could make the box with the information of the disputed areas a "true" box? It looks like an up side down "L". Perhaps you could "Paraguay/United Provinces/Upper Peru" to the bottom. Regardless, I wanted the box to look like the one in File:Territorial disputes in the Platine region in 1864.svg. --Lecen (talk) 18:38, 3 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I saw that you uploaded newer versions of the maps. Thanks a lot, Hoodinski. I'm really grateful for your help. Kind regards, --Lecen (talk) 13:46, 5 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject assessment tags for talk pages

[edit]
Thank you for your recent articles, including Warsaw air disaster. When you create a new article, can you add the WikiProject assessment templates to the talk of that article? See the talk page of the article I mentioned for an example of what I mean. Usually it is very simple, you just add something like {{WikiProject Keyword}} to the article's talk, with keyword replaced by the associated WikiProject (ex. if it's a biography article, you would use WikiProject Biography; if it's a United States article, you would use WikiProject United States, and so on). You do not have to rate the article if you do not want to, others will do it eventually. Those templates are very useful, as they bring the articles to a WikiProject attention, and allow them to start tracking the articles through Wikipedia:Article alerts and other tools. This can help you too, as the WikiProject members will often defend your work from deletion and try to improve it further. Feel free to ask me any questions if you'd like more information. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Notice

The article Rise to Addiction has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non notable band. No independent coverage.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
