Presumptuous language

Avoid phrases such as remember that and note that, which address readers directly in an unencyclopedic tone. Similarly, phrases such as of course, naturally, obviously, clearly, and actually make presumptions about readers' knowledge, and call into question the reason for including the information in the first place.

Happy birthday Anton Bruckner

Thank you for thinking of him! Today's story has 3 composers, I couldn't decide for the one on the Main page or the one who didn't make it on his bicentenary, so took both, and the pic has a third. Listen if you have a bit of time. The music, played by the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra in Germany in April 2022, impressed me. - There is a good article in the FAZ, with a somewhat similar image, - could you add from it to his biography? I have too many overdue things on my mind. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:43, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

FAZ is behind a paywall. Disappointing. Grimes2 (talk) 16:06, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To commemorate, I've heard Dennis Russell Davies and MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra with Bruckner 8 in radio. Here the recordings (still without 8th): https://www.mdr.de/mdr-klassik-radio/klassikthemen/anton-bruckner-jubilaeum-zweihundertster-geburtstag-100.html Grimes2 (talk) 20:00, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Heard the same ;) - FAZ - Recommended reading today: Frye Fire, by sadly missed Vami_IV. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:15, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can't read FAZ, its behind a paywall. Grimes2 (talk) 11:01, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Most of their articles I can't read but this one was free - for me at least. I don't know what's different for you. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:27, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Happy because my story today is about a Czech mezzo soprano who is mentioned on the Main page on her birthday. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:35, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I missed saying yesterday how much I liked that you helped bringing Rebecca Horn to the Main page! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:37, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Three stories related to today in memory, 11 September, 20 July and 20 June, the latter piece of art also pictured on the Main page. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:54, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Have you seen the RD gallery on wiki commons: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Recent_deaths Grimes2 (talk) 13:36, 12 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
no, thank you! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:47, 12 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Today is Schoenberg's 150th birthday! On display, portrayed by Egon Schiele, with music from Moses und Aron, and with two DYK hooks, one from 2010 and another from 2014; the latter, about his 40th birthday, appeared on his 140th birthday, which made me happy then and now again. - See places for a stunning sunrise, on the day Bruckner's 200th birthday was celebrated (just a few days late), - back to your start of this thread! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:52, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Season opening in Alte Oper. For Schönberg's 150th birthday Verklärte Nacht with Daniele Gatti conducting the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden and standing ovations for a superb Mahler. Grimes2 (talk) 22:09, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds great - sang myself. Schönberg planned for next week ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:47, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My story today is about a man who played jazz when it was banned by the Nazis, - you can listen to how they played it later. - Thank you for hook support, and deletion support, and referencing all the recordings. I believe that you could simply reference <nowiki>OCLC number, without all the almost distracting "author" names. - I'll travel tomorrow. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:30, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's a problem with compilations. I solved the OCLC problem with |display-authors=3. Grimes2 (talk) 11:34, 20 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! - I looked into Peter Tiboris, and hesitate to nominate for RD - too many of the references are not independent, and some things look referenced but aren't, see talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:18, 23 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is a terrible article. I've rewritten and sourced large parts, but copyright violation is still obvious. Its better, not to nominate. Grimes2 (talk) 10:23, 23 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We agree. I really enjoyed the little yt I added, though ;) - much better than all the promotional speak. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:32, 23 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My story today features a pic I took from my position in the choir, I can also offer varied delightful music, some from Venice, also with pics I took, - note the rose in the clarinet ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:51, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Tilman Michael

[edit]

On 14 September 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Tilman Michael, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Tilman Michael, who is set to be the Metropolitan Opera's chorus master from the 2024/25 season, helped the Oper Frankfurt win multiple awards for operatic choir of the year? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Tilman Michael. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Tilman Michael), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Wikidata generated opera lists

[edit]

I suggest that the Wikidata generated opera lists you recently created should be mentioned at Wikipedia:WikiProject Opera#Key articles and lists. They should probably also be in the Category:Opera-related lists. The lists I noticed are:

Cheers, Michael Bednarek (talk) 13:36, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the hint. But I don't know, how/where to insert these Wikidata generated opera lists. Would you please do it? Grimes2 (talk) 13:47, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Done. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 14:09, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for doing it. There is another list Wikipedia:WikiProject Opera/Countertenors. Is listed as voice type, but also as Fach. Grimes2 (talk) 14:10, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

October music

[edit]
story · music · places

You may remember Maryvonne Le Dizès, my story today as on 28 August. Some September music was unusual: last compositions and eternal light, with Ligeti mentioned in story and music. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:22, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Altinoglu's birthday made me think of you ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:57, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Today brought a timely promotion of Helmut Bauer to the Main page on the day when pieces from Mozart's Requiem were performed for him. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:14, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've seen it on YouTube. Didn't had the patience to watch the whole Requiem.
Gerda, please have a look at my Wikidata generated list for operatic characters. Wikipedia:WikiProject Opera/Characters list Grimes2 (talk) 18:22, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for listening! - I made our" Leif Segerstam my big story today. -Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:10, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for adding to the soprano! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:40, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My story today is a cantata 300 years old, based on a hymn 200 years old when the cantata was composed, based on a psalm some thousand years old, - so said the 2015 DYK hook. I had forgotten the discussion on the talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:45, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You work on Gürbaca is wonderful! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:17, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Happy whatever you celebrate today, - more who died, more to come, and they made the world richer. Greetings from Madrid where I took the pic of assorted Cucurbita in 2016. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:11, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

memories - In the clarinetist's article, I could mention a piece by Widmann. I had trouble finding its article because the list of works is not part of Widmann's infobox. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:42, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you also for help with a hook for the Widmann fan, which didn't make it, sadly. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:23, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

For a surprise, a Bach cantata is on the Main page today, where it was last year for the 300th anniversary, and they were too lazy to find something new ;) - Look at my story, and listen to the 3 whole-tone steps and the dialogues of Fear and Hope. - An open letter open to be signed (more info on the talk), - I haven't checked if you did, please ignore then. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:30, 7 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for your work on Pflaumentoffel. I'm going to wait a few days before nominating it for DYK. The image is good but do you think it meets DYK requirements as it is fairly small? Best, Thriley (talk) 20:20, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
