New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024

    [edit]

    Hello Harrz,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

    2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000 reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000 reviews), 6 Silver (2000 ), 8 Bronze (1000 ), 30 Iron (360 ) and 70 more for the 100 barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

    Hari Ballabh Narayan Singh Speedy???

    [edit]

Why did you mark Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hari Ballabh Narayan Singh for speedy when there is a current, active AFD for that very page that will conclude in a few days? Unless there's a clause or a precedent for this situation that allows the Speedy to overrule an AFD, I ask that you revert yourself and let the AFD complete.

Or if you've speedied the blank Draft page only, then I have no objection and no changes are needed (as the Article's content is in Main and should remain in main for the duration of the AFD). Zinnober9 (talk) 20:21, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Also, please update your signature, it's confusing to see two different accounts named and be redirected. Zinnober9 (talk) 20:23, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for the confusion, I added the speedy deletion tag when the article was just a redirect to draftspace, which is prohibited (see WP:R2). harrz talk 20:47, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, that makes perfect sense. Every time I've had a free moment to look at the page today and think about some details in my reply to the page's main contributor, I found it had moved, to Main, Draft, and back again, or had found that both the Main and the Draft were redirecting blankly to the other, so it's been a bit of a bouncy page today. Your actions were reasonable. This just hasn't been a as stationary a page as you perceived it to be and that threw us for a loop and we crashed into each other I guess. I'd just moved it back to Main per WP:DRAFTNO, so I'd thought you were jumping in to cut the AFD off for some reason and didn't understand your timing or full intent until now. Thanks for the explanation, I have no further issue, and I appreciate your efforts. Cheers, Zinnober9 (talk) 21:23, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Single victim stabbings

    [edit]

    HI Harrz,

I added a single victim stabbing to your page, List of mass stabbings in the United Kingdom. If you would like I could take that over to a new page called List of stabbings in the United Kingdom, if you don't want single victim stabbings on "list of mass stabbings". CogitoErgoSumIThinkThereforeIAm (talk) 05:12, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've removed both entries you added as neither event was a mass stabbing, which involves at least 3-4 victims. I would recommend you don't create another page for smaller stabbings as it likely won't meet the criteria for notability. harrz talk 01:01, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The Wikipedia guideline of notability is flawed anyways. Click the random article button a couple times and most of the times the articles are supported by one reference. Especially those random division III footballers from 2007 or random music albums with 18 page views in the last 30 days. CogitoErgoSumIThinkThereforeIAm (talk) 19:21, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What are you thoughts about the Crawley train station stabbing two days ago that killed one? CogitoErgoSumIThinkThereforeIAm (talk) 01:09, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Single victim stabbings are not mass stabbings and should not be added to the list. harrz talk 11:42, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Disability short descriptions

    [edit]

Hi, can you please revert your changes to the short descriptions of disability sports classifications? These are general classifications, used at all levels for all competitions, these are not exclusively or specifically Paralympic classifications. Fram (talk) 07:38, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I did realise as I was going through them that Paralympic was not the correct term to use and changed it to the sport, for example 'Para-swimming classification'. However, some of them still say Paralympic as it was getting quite late on the day I made these edits so I stopped. I will go through them all again later and change them to the correct descriptions. harrz talk 14:00, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Even if I were to mention that it was one of Singapore's first encounters with terrorism, it still wouldn't help. I'm thinking about converting the article into an article on Faber House itself, with the explosions as one of its headings. I think the building is notable enough to have its own article. What do you think? Imbluey2. Please ping me so that I get notified of your response 09:36, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    NPP Reminder

    [edit]

Hi, Harrz! Thank you for your help with the NPP September Backlog Drive! I wanted to stop by because I noticed you had marked the Costa Rica–Libya relations article as reviewed. However, it had been deleted via discussion two days ago and as such, should have been nominated for speedy deletion under G4. No worries! Mistakes happen! Otherwise, keep up the good work! Apologies, must have missed that. Thanks for letting me know! harrz talk 16:29, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Page not in Spanish

    [edit]

Hello, you added a note to the page Bohemia Magazine that it is a redirect to a page in Spanish. The page Revista Bohemia is not a Spanish wikipedia page. Guylaen (talk) 15:06, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I believe you have misunderstood the redirect category. It is about the language of the article title, not which edition of Wikipedia the target is on. harrz talk 16:28, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

    [edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:51, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Storm Darragh, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page La Croix. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
