Infoboxes

[edit]

Infoboxes are always placed at the top of an article, per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Infoboxes. Please always place these templates at the top of each page you create. Thanks. CycloneYoris talk! 23:02, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

please how do i place the infobox on the top of each page. GladysJombo (talk) 23:08, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just like you did at Ovuokerie (given name), where you placed the infobox at the top. Thanks for your understanding, and apologies for tagging you on each of these pages. CycloneYoris talk! 23:15, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you... That means infobox before writeups, that was what I did with Ovuokerie. I created the infobox first. Should I reedit every other article or I can start the amendment with sequent articles 102.89.83.219 (talk) 23:19, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. I've already fixed those articles for you. Just keep this in mind when creating new pages in the future. CycloneYoris talk! 23:25, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I'm grateful. 102.89.83.219 (talk) 23:29, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ovuokerie (given name) moved to draftspace

[edit]

Thanks for your contributions to Ovuokerie (given name). Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it needs more sources to establish notability. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. ... discospinster talk 04:37, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sourcing

[edit]

Hi, it seems as if you often add sources which don't work or which don't mention the subject of the article. As an example, at Uzuazoraro, you added this, but that name isn't included on that page. Please only add sources which actually discuss the page subject, and please only use reliable sources, not blogs, fora, ... Fram (talk) 10:58, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, thank you for reviewing my articles and pointing out areas of correction. Here is a link consisting of the names i have written on so far, which works fine.....
https://maternitynest.com/nigerian-baby-names-urhobo-names-boys/#google_vignette
https://www.emmason247.com.ng/blog/top-65-list-of-isoko-names-and-their-meaning/WRZIIWbGRR/#google_vignette
I have a question, what do you mean by " No indication of notability" and "no need for a disambiguation"can you kindly expain in an easier way?
I would appreciate your help, so i can improve more on my additions to the wiki organization.
Thank you. GladysJombo (talk) 11:19, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"Notability" means that the subject, the topic (in this case the name) has been written about at length by reliable sources. When I look at e.g. [1], it has two problems: it is not what we consider a reliable source (we want top quality sources, not blogs), and it spends only a few words on every name, not "significant attention", some paragraphs at the very least. And the other source also only gives a few words about every name it includes, so is not sufficient: and you add it to pages like Uzemehefe (name), but that name isn't even included in that source anyway.
"No need for a disambiguation": Wikipedia has disambiguation pages, i.e. pages listing people with the same name who have Wikipedia articles, like you did at Odafe (name). But most of the name articles you created have no corresponding articles, which means that we don't need to keep the page for that purpose either. Without good sources and without another reason to keep the pages, they probably will be deleted. Fram (talk) 11:32, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I'm currently going through all articles proposed for deletion and removing links that are inaccessible (inaccessible for reasons unknown).
Notability Complain: I'm working on names from the Delta State of Southern Nigeria and just like most states very few of this names or people with the names are known. We don't have too many writeups about them either from blogs, newspapers, magazine etc. That the reasons for my working with just those few accessible links.
No need for a disambiguation Complain: I'm still navigating and getting to understand wiki but one thing i know is wiki wouldn't support writing articles on people not notable enough. For this reason, i chose to either skip the part or recommend names which i feel an article should be written about.
What should i do to resolve the complains surrounding the Isoko names.... there is article on the language, culture and people already... Was hoping i could write on as many names as possible. GladysJombo (talk) 11:57, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It sounds like there is no resolution that would end in articles on the names being kept. This is an encyclopedia of notable topics, not a dictionary of name meanings (see Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not a dictionary. If there isn't enough reliable sourcing to support notability, then they must be deleted. Best, GPL93 (talk) 12:07, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your response. GladysJombo (talk) 12:16, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Names

[edit]

Please note that articles are not allowed to be filed in redlinked categories that do not exist to have articles filed in them. Please stop adding pages to categories that don't exist, because I'll have to report you for being disruptive if I have to keep removing redlinked categories that you added to pages. Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 13:37, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Another piece of advice: names where there isn't an existing article of the same name should usually have the title without (name), which is only added to disambiguate multiple topics with the same title. Also, the name doesn't have to be in bold every time in the list of people with that name.
Finally (and more importantly), everything about the meaning, origin, etc. of the name (so, everything beyond just listing people with the name) should be sourced. I see that you have created several of these articles without any sources at all (e.g. Edewor (name), Ewomazino (name)), which you shouldn't do if they serve anything more than a disambiguation purpose (listing articles of people with the name). Deletion discussion about Ewomazino (name)

[edit]

Hello GladysJombo, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Ewomazino (name), should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ewomazino (name).

Deletion discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Pppery}}. And don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!
