AfDs, Erpert and ANI

I'm wondering it would be best to quickly remove the ANI discussion since I already reverted the AfDs... to lessen the potential for drama... Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 18:59, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Oh, I just noticed your new comment. Fair enough; we can see if others think more should be done. Thanks, Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 19:02, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
GiantSnowman, I see that you are assuming good faith now per this, and that's fine, but I feel I still need to clarify something. It appears the reason that thread was started at all is because you think I closed the second AfD and then alerted people to the first one due to it being "mine". That was definitely not the case; as I stated, it was because both AfDs concerned articles by the same editor with the exact same problems. And very rarely have I defected one AfD to another simply because I started one of them; see here, for example (and not one user complained about that). But I'm willing to let it go if you are. Yusef Ahmed Ali

Hi, I moved back the page to Yusef Ahmed, I almost understand Arabic and Qatari commentators always call him Yusef Ahmed, he wrote Y. Ahmed on his shirt, and official Asian Cup website call him Yousef Ahmed, the arabic name isn't similar to western names, Ali isn't his surname, it's just the last part of his long name. --Mohsen1248 (talk) 02:15, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Bri(d)gend

I deleted the cat, but was slightly surprised that you aren't an admin and couldn't do it yourself. Ever thought about running for adminship? You're a veteran who knows the place inside out, with a bajillion edits and articles created. You're one of the most active WPF people when it comes to AfD, so you're well versed on the project side of things. I'd be more than happy to nominate you. Oldelpaso (talk) 18:31, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Nomination at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/GiantSnowman. Good luck! Oldelpaso (talk) 22:37, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
Its usually the nominee that adds it to WP:RFA rather than the nominator, so add it there whenever you're ready. Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Nominate explains it pretty exhaustively. Oldelpaso (talk) 16:51, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Your RfA

Hello, GiantSnowman (by the way, I love your user name). RfA can be a very cruel and unpleasant experience, as I know from having gone through it myself. Even civil, reasonable "oppose" comments can feel like personal attacks, and for this reason I am sorry to have contributed to the opposition to your RfA. However, I was 100% sincere when I wrote that I think you are a very good contributor, but your talents are better suited to writing than to administering. I am different: the amount of new content I have written is tiny compared to your contributions, and I feel I am less useful as a writer than you are, but I hope that my admin contributions make up to some extent for my limitations in that area. (That is not to say that I am in any way ashamed of my writing contributions, only that there are much less of them than in your case.) Administration is not in any sense "better" than writing content: it is just a different contribution. Maybe you will make a good admin one day when you have learnt a bit more about the relevant issues, but even if you never become an admin your contributions are of just as much value as those of many people who do become admins. One other point: even though I am one of those who have opposed, I would like to remind you that there are substantially more "supports" than "opposes", so clearly there is a good deal of appreciation of your work. JamesBWatson (talk) 21:55, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

Many thanks for the message, it's much appreciated. I'll admit I have been disheartened by the opposition comments, which to seen to concentrate on just one or two (admittedly poor) answers to questions, and which ignore both my positive contributions to Wikipedia, as well as my responses to said questions. However, I am well aware that becoming an admin is a serious business, and regardless of the outcome of the RfA will definitely spend much more time learning about the relevant issues. And as you have said, there are currently more "supports" than "opposes", so other editors are able to see my net positive. Thanks again for your message and your RfA comments. Warm regards, GiantSnowman 11:43, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
I have to say I'm disappointed with how few of the opposes are actually based on anything in your contrib history. Its a fair while since I've nominated anyone for RFA, and I can say without doubt that in the intervening time it has become far harder to pass. Between 2006 and 2009 I nominated seven people. Six of them passed without a single oppose. Seven if you count my own RFA on top. One failed, but it was their second RFA, which tend to be a bit different (that person became an admin following a third RFA a few months later). I can say with confidence that you are in the same bracket of trustworthiness and ability as any of those others I nominated. If you had been nominated in that environment, you'd have breezed through. If the RFA crowd have hardened their attitudes over time, then frankly it is their loss, and the project's. Oldelpaso (talk) 21:54, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
  • It seems your RFA is going to snow; you only have 61% supports, and given that you already have 25 opposes, you need an additional 29 supports to even have a chance of succeeding the RFA. HeyMid (contribs) 18:49, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Your RfA (2)

Negotiating the questions at RfA is like negotiating a minefield! I just dropped by to wish you good luck with your RfA. Malcolmxl5 (talk) 00:58, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Whilst there are some valid opposes, your RFA has been hit by a load of blind knee-jerk editors berating you for your honest and cautious reponse to Fastily's loaded and dreadfully couched question; people whose lack of clue is disturbing IMHO. Hold your head high. Pedro :  Chat  22:38, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
I echo Pedro's feelings. Salih (talk) 19:26, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
I fully agree with the above editors, I would like to add that any editor in good standing with experience who wishes to go through RfA is nothing short of a legend, Its is a cruel process that has become somewhat pathetic in terms of how we treat each other. RfA's seem to be above assuming good faith, I would like to point out that most of those editors will never go through an RfA. Good luck you have my support. ZooPro 01:45, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

I don't think any type of "consensus" was reached at WP:CAT. I know it was listed for a fairly long time, but, as I showed you, it is the long term consensus not to include a category and its sub-category.--TM 14:23, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Well, 2-1 is not consensus. I had already stated my opposition to you prior to the discussion. I don't think that the UC Irvine alumni page can seriously be considered a "non-diffusing category" and as such should not be included when a subcategory is also included per WP:DUPCAT.--TM 14:34, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
I am going to ask some admins with more experience with categories to intervene because it is incorrect to include both.--TM 14:42, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
Also, you never once made a policy-based argument for inclusion.--TM 14:42, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi there

I noticed that you've reverted a number of edits on the article with regards to his birth of place. However, just wanted to point that out there's an article in Arabic that states that he's born there and that there's other players born there that want to play for Qatar. If you can read and understand Arabic I'll find the article for you (don't have it on me right now). TonyStarks (talk) 13:29, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

Alright, here's the article. TonyStarks (talk) 13:51, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

Your RFA

Hey GiantSnowman. I sorry to tell you that your recent RFA was unsuccessful. You received considerable support from the community, however, with a final tally of (76/36/10) so you shouldn't be discouraged. Work on the concerns of the opposers and in a few months time, consider making another application. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this closure or the process in general. All the best, look forward to seeing you around and working with you, The Rambling Man (talk) 18:23, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

My condolences; as noted, it was really close. I'd also like to suggest you try a second Rfa this spring. Thanks for your service to the encyclopedia, and Best Wishes! Jusdafax 18:51, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
A shame, but clearly the right close. Keep up the good work - you're highly valued as many supporters (indeed opposers too) noted; Fell free to hit me up in the summer for a review if you think it would help. Pedro :  Chat  19:03, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
I second Pedro. I've nominated a few candidates for RfAs that have ended up at almost every result possible (SNOW closures, at least one really borderline no consensus and 3 successful that got to WP:100) and I've been through two of my own, as well, so I know RfA is tough. However, I hope you won't feel too discouraged. You are, by all accounts, a great editor and a prolific writer and, given that you very rarely pop up on my watchlist, it would seem that you know how to keep out of trouble, which is desirable in an admin. Just because the community doesn't think you're ready at the minute doesn't mean that they'll never trust you. I fell flat on my face in spectacular style in my first attempt but passed my second, as did a friend of mine User:Panyd and then there's User:Ironholds (another friend of mine) who tried and failed six times but succeeded in his seventh attempt. I guess this is a bit of a long winded way of saying that my oppose was nothing personal and that, if you do want to be an administrator spend some time getting to grips with the issues raised in your RfA wile still keeping out of trouble and try again in four months or so. Just for the record, adminship isn't that exciting... HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 19:35, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
IMHO, the only thing you did wrong is perhaps you should have put a little more thought into some of your answers. If you were judged by your deeds instead of the answers to the traps questions, you would have sailed. --rogerd (talk) 21:51, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
Yes. I opposed on this occasion on the basis of your answers, not your record. I would expect to support next time, given only that you avoid putting your foot in it in the questions. And, for the record, if you look at my first RfA you can see that it was spectacularly unsuccessful, on the basis of a stupid answer I gave to one of the questions. So I know whereof I speak. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 21:59, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
Hi GiantSnowman. May I add a note out here. Do go through all the points that the opposing editors made. While some may, you might perceive, have given reasons not pertinent, most of the reasons are quite logical. One particular issue I may point out for your consideration - and that is the articles you've created. Do kindly go through all the articles you've created and if you believe they can be improved, do that. Having said that, I should mention that I'm sure the next time you run for RfA, in spring perhaps as HJ mentions, you might get support from even those who have opposed you this time, editors like 28bytes included (who has brought forward very logical issues). Do drop in for any assistance in the future. Kind regards. Wifione ....... Leave a message 05:02, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
Wifione is correct, I'm absolutely open to supporting you in a future RfA. You've done a lot of great work here and that's widely recognized, even among the opposers. One suggestion I can add: go through the archives of the successful and unsuccessful RfAs and try to get a feel for what questions pop up frequently. RfA is notorious for "trick" questions, but if you've done your homework and know what to expect, you're less likely to run into one that trips you up, and the RfA participants will be more apt to focus on your concrete contributions instead of hypotheticals. I hope this helps. Best, 28bytes (talk) 05:54, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

I just wanted to add my comments. I too was disapointed with the focus on the answers by the oppose crowd. I have to agree though that your responses did show a lack of being secure in policy - and least in expressing it. Personally - being an admin for a number of years I still would need to check before acting especially as policy, guidelines and accepted practise do change over time, and my involvement with the project has been minimal for quite some time. On the other hand your actions show exactly what I am looking for in an admin. Treading carefully with the best of the project in mind. I wish you all the best for the future - hoping to be around when you decide to try again. Agathoclea (talk) 14:22, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

I feel that every edit was constructive. Someone65 also previously had an argument with me regarding the Template talk:Honoured women in Islam, but if you visit the talk page for the template you will see that his argument was not accepted, as ALL of the figures are referenced in Islam. Before any reversions take place, I feel we should ask other editors too. I am just saying that we should have a discussion and I can find him the exact verses where each figure is mentioned in the Qur'an.--Imadjafar (talk) 13:27, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

Confessions

Hi there SNOWY, VASCO here,

of course, i was a little over the top in the last discussion at WP:FOOTY, of course no one (well at least the vast majority) is out to annoy me and ruin my work, and i feel most of the well intended users are much more flexible than myself when it comes to having one's edits altered, i 100% admit to that.

However, i guess i will never understand when some users fail to reply to my messages when i am being polite (and i don't mean writing to them ONCE, i mean writing 3, 4, 5 messages and having to "enjoy the silence", much more "interesting" when i see they answer to others). I am also growing ever so frustrated with the vandals who have nothing better to do than do "what they do best", and sometimes get my ideas mixed :(

All in all, i guess i overreacted a lot. Please accept my apologies if you were offended by my remarks. Kind regards, from Portugal - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 22:55, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

Interesting

Hi there o "giant one", VASCO here,

we might want to keep a close attention on this Spanish user, Niquinio, writes ZERO summaries and operates solely on soccer. In Juande's article, you can clearly see how all external links say his birthplace was X, this user corrected it to Y, and it turns out he was correct (i since retrieved a REF that attests to that).

Have a look at his reaction after my message to him (please see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Niquinio), like i committed a crime or told "the world's greatest joke". I already re-replied. Also, see what i mean with my previous tirade in WP:FOOTY? One guy (pretty much) insults me and, once i try to get some explanations, get no answer whatsoever.

Just in case you want to keep a close eye on this user (i most certainly will!), kind regards - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 03:44, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

  • (Apparently) no worries mate, he has replied (so have i accepting his apologies), he is a newbie who really does not "know his way around" WP all that well still. He is in no way a vandal, and seems poised to be a useful contributor in Spanish football. Again (it seems :(), i was too picky and hasty. Attentively - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 14:25, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Categories

Incredible! Snowy my friend, it's the "work" of ZOMBIE433, i thought he was not welcome, i guess he is. He also did it in the following fashion: the cat did not display and, as ALWAYS, it's thrown randomly into the other categories.

OK, he wins... - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 21:59, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

  • Regarding your last question, i agree with you partially. However, he does not talk to people, he removes messages from his talkpage, he has removed REFS (i spoke about that at last WP:FOOTY entry, about this very last IP), etc, etc. Clearly does more bad than good i reckon - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 22:03, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
  • Still left some, because whenever i step into an article, it's pretty much for sure i will try to clean it up if needs be. Is there anyway to remove the cats mentioned above, "UD Oliveirense players" and "CD Trofense managers" (two more Zombie offsprings!) without having to do it manually? It would be highly appreciated. Check you later - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 01:12, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

Dave Syers

Thanks for your note re Dave Syers. My own records say 10 August was the date and the BBC Sport piece (Reference number 14 of the article) quotes the manager saying on Friday 13 August that Syers signed on the Tuesday. I make that 10 August, which is why I said I made the change as per the verification. Mind you, I'd love to know how he signed with Guiseley and then trialled with Bradford a matter of days later. Reasonable doubt

Hi there SNOWMAN, VASCO here,

do you have any idea why the reports on User:Zombie433 (you did the last on ANI) get tons of inputs and opinions/suggestions (as it should!) and mine regarding this guy get none at all (i took advantage of your Zombie report and wrote a few lines on this vandal as well, and wrote some lines at WP:FOOTY - this "user" edits solely on soccer - got ZERO feedback, the friendly message i received from User:FkpCascais not counting as technical help)? I don't have any clue, but it's a bit bothering, i would like to know where am i going wrong.

Sad news is we can't seem to override these problems, Zombie has a vast array of anon IPs, this other chap is vying to beat the all-time sock record, and also has several anon IPs to work with. Sad, sad indeed...

That said, keep up the good work and best of luck with this quest. Regards from Portugal - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 19:19, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

  • Yes, i have taken this to SPI, hundreds of times, checkusers have been made, with several sleepers being dug up sometimes. That has produced zero results however, as the main result intended would be to prevent this vandal from "contributing" (have asked this question time and time again - "Is it possible to block him permanently", YES or NO, plain and simple - no one has still been able to do so :().

Kind regards - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 15:17, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Not seeing the obvious hoax for Tony Biggs, especially since a gnews archive search backs up at least part of the article. If this is indeed a hoax, AfD would be a better venue, since you can then lay out the reasons for its hoaxitude.--Fabrictramp | talk to me 23:15, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

Just a quick note, publisher info for football club websites, doesn't need the "official website" part. Simply put "Team F.C.", e.g. your recent change to Luke Dean only required "Bradford City A.F.C." in the publisher info field. Brad78 (talk) 15:03, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi. Just wondering where you initially got his DoB? If I recall properly, various stats sites didn't have his DoB and eventually listed the same DoB that is listed here of 20 May 1989. I ask because, I found this, and if you scroll down in that article, it lists 30 September 1988 as his DoB. Coincidentally, it's also the same birth date as his older brother Chris Greatwich but obviously different year. Banana Fingers (talk) 18:13, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

I would appreciate if you would not incorrectly edit or change the wikipedia page of Max Cream. You can research my playing statistics on www.transfermarkt.co.uk and find that I did not score 4 league goals in 12 games for Meppen but 2 league goals for Meppen. Furthermore the other listed information is an accurate historical recount of my career thus far. Why are you so agressive to me? Is this infobox stuff something personal of yours? FkpCascais (talk) 21:55, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

You called it nonsence and others had complained on this also before, so it isn´t complete nonsence. Anyway, you wan´t cross with them many times anyway, I´m talking about basically obscure players whose careers are only now being apearing on websites, and basically it´s their early careers info. You don´t imagine how many biographies are done with guys from one country ignoring the careers the guy had before. And there comes FKP completing what the fukin´IP didn´t wanted to do... It´s about less known players. I wan´t convert David Beckham because I heard he played in some school when kid, don´t warry... Those are mostly guys from lower leagues, so completing their careers is quite a favour! I wan´t do it if I need to make much work to do it, but I´ll do it easily by old method and convert it later. We have tousands of unconverted articles, why not one more of some obscure guy who´s career isn´t completed anyway! And I´m saying only for the many uncomplete ones... OK, nevermind, I´ll probably loose this one, and I knew it all the way. I just didn´t expected to see it called nonsence, when clerly it isn´t, mosly because a few obscure incomplete biographies want make a difference in a universe of tousands of much more important that are still unconverted... FkpCascais (talk) 22:12, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
Well, if by opening the first 2 websites I already find 2 clubs missing and we still have only the career since the 20s, well, I most certainly know something is missing. Listen, I´ll do things my way anyway, and while completing careers I´ll do it the way I find more easy. I only did this for clear cases where obviously a big part of the career was missing. If it takes me a few hours ar a day or two to complete the task and I haven´t converted it yet, and you find it in the meantime, and if you think it is for the best of WP, report me. My objective is to have the best articles as possible, so if I need to take a step back to go two ahead later, I will. FkpCascais (talk) 22:34, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
I know, that is why I said to report me. Regards, FkpCascais (talk) 22:45, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
All this issue was deeply missunderstood. I´m having a bad day, so just forget it, OK? Anyway, I don´t care much about risking getting blocked, if my goal is in accordance with other possible policies... But, lets close the day, OK? Nevermind... everything has been said-or nothing has been said, depending on the view. But I´m definitelly not argumentative today, so nevermind... FkpCascais (talk) 23:17, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

Player notability

Thank you for your support on this issue. I'm relatively new to taking an active role in the deletion process but I can tell you have to step on some peoples toes to maintain the integrity of the encyclopaedia. It does strike me as odd that a WikiProject is going directly against its parent WikiProject by ignoring its key policies on notability. I'm going to attempt my first multiple AfD nomination shortly so hopefully I don't screw it up! Oh, and if you haven't seen it already then I'd recommend you revisit this AfD. If a level 10 cut off point for English clubs is correct then surely it would be stated on WP:FOOTYN, but then it would be favouring one country over another wouldn't it? Confusing. James Donnelly

Hi, I was looking at the Građanski Zagreb article and noticed that you made this edit in January. I'm wondering if you are certain that this guy is the James Donnelly (footballer) and if there are any sources which specifically say so? Information about early Građanski managers is almost impossible to come by and if you did read it somewhere I'd appreciate it if you told me where. On the other hand, Donnelly's info box says he played at Thames A.F.C. 1930–1932 but the Građanski article claims a certain Donnelly coached the team 1930–1931. Cheers. I know Football in the United States is a dis-ambiguation page. And it can be moved to Football in the United States (disambiguation) to allow it to have one primary meaning. Having the dis-ambiguation page titled Football in the United States will let readers believe that there are 2 primary meanings. Georgia guy (talk) 18:28, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

Orphan tags

Hi, I´ve noteced you´ve been adding orphan tags to some players. The problem is that most of them were left "orphaned" since we made the purge on "Natable players" lists on club articles. Any ideas on how to solve it? FkpCascais (talk) 03:34, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

Yes, I already created 2 lists of that kind (Partizan and Red Star), and I´ll see which ones can be added somewhere in the articles text. How many links you think a footy bio should at least have so the tag can be removed? FkpCascais (talk) 18:57, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
Oh, I didn´t knew the tag was removed automatically. Great. Thanks! FkpCascais (talk) 19:11, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

There must be some users still using the old template when creating articles because the number keeps going up. I've updated quite a few since you made me aware of the list and saw it dip below 49,600 yesterday, but now its gone above it again. If there is a bot that can be used to change them all automatically then we should do that, otherwise we'll be at it for the next 50 years! The list has certainly made me aware that there are a lot of articles on non-notable Albanian players. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 10:46, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

That sounds reasonable. I don't know anything about bots so I won't be much use there, but I'll carry on with 1 and 3. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 15:39, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi there SNOWY, VASCO here,

knowing it was you, a user/person which i greatly respect/consider, i have to drop this note mate...I will not revert your approach again, even tough i don't understand why are those sources (most of them only consisting of stats, whereas refs are much more complete, newspaper articles, official website releases, etc) not allowed to stay as links, in Paixão's case, also, the references department was pretty well covered methinks...

User:Zombie433 also had that custom, ALL the external links were summarily inserted in the references section. Don't fret, i will not revert it again (Zombie i will, for sure!), but just thought i'd give you a piece of my mind regarding these "techniques".

Kind regards from Portugal - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 16:33, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

What the hey?

Thanks a million for your message regarding "the above" and your WP:FOOTY remark, my friend,

regarding the latter (see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#More_football_vandals_than_User:Zombie433.2C_you_know...), what on earth did i do to deserve that comeback from User:Kevin McE? I have told people i am not at all proficient in WP guidelines, i prefer the "community outreach".

I am fully aware of the fact that i am not posting my queries in the correct fields, but i have longsince (almost five years here now) learned that vandals can be blocked, that does not stop them the least. I only wanted to help mate, and have told Kevin just that. Regards - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 19:15, 17 April 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, great argument btw. It's on nft.com so it has to be correct, right? Please. It is inaccurate/false, period. Again, the 00/01 PSL consisted of 34 games but the aforementioned player strangely made 41 appearances. That should ring a bell. Thuglife99 (talk) 00:03, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

My recent edits

Left you a response at User_talk:Zanoni - I do think it would be worth a discussion at Wiki Project Football as most of the squad lists/ rosters are not dated for non-league sides (especially lower not league sides and as such with a very high turnover of players during a season, the lists get very quickly out of date. Zanoni (talk) 09:44, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

Bradford City

Do you support them by any chance? I've been wondering for a while. If you do then can I ask what on earth is going on there? Seeing them beaten convincingly by Torquay and Accrington is rather depressing. They should be nowhere near the Fourth Division, but I can appreciate that it happens. My first season as a supporter was our first in that division and I'm prepared for the return next season - if someone will hurry up and buy us! I don't know, I'm a big historian when it comes to football and seeing what the very top has become, coupled with many proud, old clubs struggling on and off the pitch... It's sad. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 22:27, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

I felt disgusted when I saw this. It really is sickening and like you say, if the club fights it then it'll be risking its future. Given the apathy towards the players and the league position, I'm surprised that Lloyd Saxton hasn't been given a chance yet. He was unfortunate to have been let go by us. Our situation isn't any better. This makes for grim reading. Our former directors have run us into the ground, staff haven't been paid for months and the club is only still going because of their good-will. The latest fund-raiser is for St John Ambulance, who we owe in excess of £8,000 thanks to the Malignant Seven (check out the poster on the website!) On the bright side (if we don't stay up), then we'll both have trips to Crawley to look forward to next season. I bet you're ecstatic about that, I sure am... Argyle 4 Lifetalk 23:45, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
I was surprised when I saw Pidgley was playing for you because I thought you already had three goalkeepers - a waste of resources really. Saxton will probably have to drop into non-league now, which he is better than, but hopefully that will kick-start his career. Good to see you win today. We were docked ten points in February so everyone pretty much wrote us off. Later that day, our then deputy chairman left the country to have a holiday at a 5-star hotel in Dubai. Leaving the staff, who have mortgages to pay and families to feed, to try and salvage a football club from the mess that the board created, without pay. Classy, right? We won again today and at least four of the team are carrying injuries, so with three games to go we're three points from safety with a game in hand. If we do go down then everyone involved with the club right now can hold their heads high.
Those responsible for bringing a club to its knees, ripping off hundreds of companies and worst of all, screwing over charitable organisations, are long gone. Their actions over the last two years have made me sick to my stomach, but during this dark time, the response from the staff, the players and the supporters has made me feel so proud of my club. If your supporters decide that enough is enough and make a stand against those who have run the club into the ground, you will have our support. Crawley seem to be the Manchester United of non-league football - buy your success and exude breath-taking arrogance while doing so. The BLP policies that prevent you from giving your opinion of your caretaker also prevent me from saying what I think of Crawley Town's manager. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 18:23, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Relegation

Thanks. We just ran out of puff in the end, but at least we had enough points to stay up if it wasn't for director incompetence and greed. I've had a scan of the league tables and it looks like we could have first ever league meetings with up to six clubs next season. Accrington Stanley and Stevenage, if they don't get promoted, Aldershot Town, Morecambe and Burton Albion for certain, and either AFC Wimbledon or Fleetwood Town, if they do get promoted. If anything it should at least be fun, visiting lots of new, compact grounds. I was getting bored of going to places like the Hawthorns, Molineux, Portman Road and Deepdale anyway... Argyle 4 Lifetalk 03:28, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi, I have a few queries regarding this edit you made [1]

  • How come you changed back the format of the infobox, away from the "single line" format, which admiitedly I had changed from the original. I took that format from a number of key editors on here, and I thought there was some consensus that this form was best/easiest for the editor, although I realise it is not something that is shown in the template as it stands.
  • You've re-added his death date but there is no reference for this. I thought the entry probably came from an accurate source and hence I hid it.
  • Similarly, you removed the question marks regarding the years of his club career. The only source in the article relating to his club career is the Michael Joyce book, and this does not confirm the years he was with his clubs, only the start and end seasons that he played league football for them.

Regards. Eldumpo (talk) 16:39, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for response. The edit diff you showed indicates I added the year of death to parts of the article. I didn't add the date of death, which had previously been added by an IP. I'm not sure why you thought the question marks had been added in error. I will re-hide the death date and put the question marks back in. Eldumpo (talk) 18:34, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

Prodding

What do you expect if you go plastering tags over people's articles without bothering to do the research and then drill people irritating drilled messages? Given that you only care about anglo-centric football, your tagging of Al-Shorouk comes across as stalking and unnecessary, If you want an article improved, kindly ask and the response would be equally as kind. As for the football bio, given that he was involved in a major scandal, I'd be content to redirect into the club article if he fails WP:Bio. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:19, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

If you are going to create useless stubs on bottom league reserve footballers like Alan Burton can you at least provide a reference and indicate some sort of notability in reliable sources. At present it is a BLP violation and an experienced editor such as yourself should know this. BLPs MUST contain inline sources. You've been warned.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:53, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

I'm not posting on your talkpage seeing as I'm "unwelcome" there - Alan Burton is not a BLP violation, 100% of the information is referenced. GiantSnowman 13:56, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

No, an external link is not good enough. Ask anybody who references BLPs. It must contain an inline citation, otherwise it would be tagged an an unreferenced BLP and you'd be drilled a message at a later date, trust me on that. An inline citation to soccer base should suffice. I really don't think its worth having such a short stub right now, but I understand he meets requirements because of "professional athlete" amd is likely to become more notable as his career develops. Don't you think though there is a flaw in the requirement that football clubs must be 100% professional? It means that premier league players from other countries are not even entitled to an article yet it permits small stubs on 4th division players in anglo centric countries who have a highly develop football base. To me this requirement demonstrates major bias in coverage taking advantage of the fact many poorer countries in Asia and Africa are not wealthy enough to be fully professional or have an undeveloped football base.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:00, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

I've converted the EL into a reference; it doesn't make any difference whatsoever, but if it pleases you, then whatever. The guy only made his professional debut, as soon as sources come available (and I'll do some more searching ASAP) I'll obviously improve the article. As for notability requirements for footballers in general - the current guideline is WP:NFOOTBALL, and should you wish to change that, I suggest starting a discussion there. However, if memory serves me correctly, a recent attemot to change the guidline failed. Regards, GiantSnowman 14:17, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

I see. Yes, he has only played one game so obvious sources are not going to be great. I've added a bit, but I doubt until he plays a full season he'll have much coverage. That's OK for now. As for footballer notability I mostly agree, however I would make a slight change to rule which makes any player who has made a first team appearance in the top football division of any country notable. I'll suggest it perhaps.. If you create further articles like this in future though be sure to swap an external links with a inline source otherwise they'll BLP tag it later. Take care.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:18, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

The only problem with saying "any top-level player is notable" means you will have articles for incredibly amateur players from countries such as Guam and San Marino! I mean, if I moved abroad and played one game in a top-level league of low quality, would I then be notable? Definitely not...regards, GiantSnowman 14:24, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

Well, a regular team player, maybe... LOL but most of the footballers from countries like Bhutan and Nepal and that are laughable, even the ones in the national team!!♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:40, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

Max Cream

hi giant snowman, i keep being contacted by people asking why my wiki page is lacking info and filled with mistakes such as months and years that i was never at clubs etc. i have left wexford on mutual terms and am not at liberty to discuss those terms with anyone but have a photo copied mutual cancellation agreement if you would please edit the page to show that i am not attached with a club. also the dialogue lacks flow. maybe you can find someone to edit my page for you? the page is definitely not written the best way it could be. my former club secretary from bournemouth poppies has brought all this to my attention. please get your facts straight or stop making a mess of my page. i never took any notice of this page until you started chopping and changing and diluting info etc. the page also reads as though i never played football in the US as a youth player. i was on pro contracts and wages at both dundee united and dunfermline ath and at dunfermline i trained only with the first team, played reserve and u19 games. refer to transfermarkt.co.uk who seem to have updated my "transfers" section showing that i am now unemployed. please allow positive corrections to this page as you have made it an absolute mess. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Whatupfool909 (talkcontribs) 10:45, 14 May 2011 (UTC) Please read the final edited version before reverting back to your less accurate version. Max Cream is no longer a Wexford player. He had a number of trials with English prior to being offered a trial with Stoke City where he did not win a deal and made the move to Scotland. He was fulltime at Dundee Utd. And Dunfermline but played only youth football at Dundee United. At Dunfermline he played all first team friendly matches, a number of reserve and u19 matches before being released. He left to join the LA Galaxy on trial, scoring in one of 2 matches he played with the club before leaving to Germany. He spent less than half a season with Shelbourne making 2 league and 1 cup appearance. He returned here to the US and had trials with Chicago Fire, Vancouver Whitecaps and Portland Timbers before signing a 2 year deal with Cleveland City Stars in Feb. 2009, so by all accounts he would have returned to the US the end of 2008 latest, not February 2009 as your edit suggests. Your edit makes no suggestion of why he left Cleveland (to return to the UK) then goes straight into how he moved from Bournemouth Poppies to Bashley. Our records show that he returned to us in September not October and the years listed in the club listings are wrong also. I have a number of photos that I can happily forward to you to place onto this page. You also need to distinguish between league and total appearances/goals as you just list number in the dialogue but some are total and others are league. Please read the edited version that I feel flows much better than your version. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.158.161.172 (talk) 11:13, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

Zombie knows I'm watching his edits (and reverting them) I told him that, and it seems to work very well. His number of edits is very low now on en.wikipedia (as far as I know) Editting this page could be seen as a very subtile threat, or a form of twisted humour. • Well, German and Dutch do have some similarities in language. Well enough defending him :) I'm on your side 100% Cattivi, unacceptable behaviour from this "user", i also give him NO CHANCE and revert everything (right or wrong), but i would - sadly - not qualify his number of edits on EN.WIKI as "low", not if you count with the vast array of anon addresses he has. Hi there SNOWMAN my friend, VASCO here,

in this player's article, i have corrected several stuff regarding (some of) the clubs he appeared for in Spain, and the corresponding years. As you can see, i added a new link which attests to that (please see FUTBOLME.com), hence, he does not have 23/2 for Real Murcia Imperial as he played there 3 years, not one as you originally input. Also, if you look closely at the link i provided, it reads "2002/03 MÁLAGA JUVENIL", hence it was a youth team still.

Speaking of LINKS: please allow for some of references to be relocated as links and remain as such, here and at Marco Paixão (i have not reverted you again in the latter since, as i respect your work and persona - i am only waiting for your YES), i think you once told me regarding this approach it did not matter, they could be inserted as either links or refs, please humour me on this one if you can, please (if i am not quoting you right and there is NO CHANCE the refs can be turned into links, never mind me).

Furthermore, the first DAILY RECORD ref may be misleading because it says the player is a "...former Real Murcia and Real Betis hitman...", which is not 100% accurate, as he only played for the RESERVES, never for the main squad, as BDFUTBOL.com can attest (it only mentions the Segunda División B season). The TRANSFERMARKT.com ref also does not mention anything about his Spanish career, but i kept it because you inserted it.

Last, i inverted you order of story because he played first in SPAIN, then ABROAD. Kind regards, "whistle" back when you can - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 21:09, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

did not think adding commonly known nicknames with many, many sources needed to be cited... my impression was that if something is commonly known then it does not need a citation. nevertheless because i do not know where i would possibly cite this instead of right next to his nickname here are four news articles that state his name in the title. http://www.wigan.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=236137 http://www.afrikansoccer.com/2011/05/sevilla-track-senegal-midfielder-momo-diame/ http://www.footballaddicts.com/stories/53981 http://www.cockneylatic.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=892:momo-diame-is-stunned-by-crappy-wigan-quote&catid=1:latest-news&Itemid=50 That being said there are many, many people on wikipedia with names presented like 'Jonathan "John" Doe' without citations so I am changing this article back how I had changed it originally. if you would still like me to cite one of these articles somewhere in that article, please just tell me where. thanks 96.227.252.46 (talk) 03:02, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi everyone,

"Incivility"

First, kindly refrain from bogus charges of "incivility". When you include blog posts as "references", it's perfectly appropriate to wonder if you've made yourself familiar with WP:USERG. Second, this is not part of the reliable content of FourFourTwo. It's a blog post by an amateur ("a journalist through delusion") and as such unusable per that very same WP:USERG, which leaves open the possibility of using "interactive columns hosted by news outlets they call blogs" — so long as the writers are professional journalists or are professionals in the field on which they write and the blog is subject to the news outlet's full editorial control. The author meets neither of the criteria, and as far as we can tell, the blog isn't subject to FourFourTwo's editorial control. Plus, it barely mentions the Big Three, so we lose precious little by its removal. - Biruitorul Talk 02:22, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

About this blog: I'm not saying the information contained therein is inaccurate, but it absolutely is against policy to source content through it. Again, WP:RS: "Articles should be based on reliable, third-party, published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy". A blog does not meet that high standard. And WP:BLOG: "self-published media, such as ... personal or group blogs ... are largely not acceptable as sources". (The only narrow and tentative exception is for content "produced by an established expert on the topic of the article whose work in the relevant field has previously been published by reliable third-party publications" — not applicable here. So yes, if you wanted to use that blog, you'd have to trace the reliable source where the blog got its information and quote that; the blog itself is not quotable on an encyclopedia that strives for quality sourcing.
About FourFourTwo - again, the author is an avowed amateur (not permitted per WP:USERG) and we don't know if the magazine exercises "full editorial control" over the blog - again, we need to know that. Appeals to common sense are all well and good, but per WP:BURDEN, proving that a source is reliable lies with the editor adding the source, and you have not come up with the proof, while I have cast serious doubt on its acceptability. - Biruitorul Talk 14:15, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

kashif siddiqi article?

Hi there,

i had a few questions regarding the kashif siddiqi article. Why are his changes always put back to default. Some of his information is wrong, i am an acquaintence and have seen his career develop over the years. The information i added earlier, gives the reader a little more depth about him and corrects the mistakes.

look forward to your response. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stevenklien (talkcontribs) 21:44, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

Burge

Thanks. I'm reluctant to start giving out 3RR warnings to the other party to something I'm involved in. I was surprised, actually, he's not usually as possessive as that about the odd word. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 18:11, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Thought that now the Hoddle academy had got him a proper job at Doncaster and he did OK on loan at Oxford, he the regular anon editor would settle down a bit, but hopefully the player will sign his contract soon... cheers, Struway2 (talk) 15:06, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

Kind of odd?

Hi there SNOWMAN, VASCO "here",

any particular reason as to why ONLY my discussions are ignored? Kind of a "downer"... --Vasco Amaral (talk) 22:46, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

  • Am not being a cry baby man (well i am, but not at "full speed"), i meant my discussions of the last days, not ALWAYS. People have responded quite often in fact, and you have been one of the most helpful! Could you have a look at the one where i mention categories and tell me what you think? I would highly appreciate it.

Kind regards - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 23:02, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

Fkp

First of all let me assure you I had NO intention of filing a report against User:FkpCascais, and that if I had, I would naturally have notified him (as I had done in the past). In retrospect perhaps I should've done so regardless, but rest assured the omission was not due to any premeditated "plan" on my part.

My inquiry, however, apparently drew attention to the WP:3RR violation on the part of User:FkpCascais, one that I was not even aware of at the time (I've not counted his reverts). FPS is an admin well acquainted with enWiki's Balkans articles, and the user had been placed on ARBMAC notice due to previous edit-warring [3]. In this instance, the user once again violated WP:3RR ([4][5][6][7]), this time to remove a long-standing related image from the article, against talkpage opposition, and without consensus. The only justification he posted was that this image is somehow the "same" as this image and that "clearly" therefore one of those two should be removed.

To sum-up, in retrospect it was a mistake on my part not to notify Fkp (in spite of not my not intending to report him for anything), but the user was clearly (once again) in violation of WP:3RR, and was specifically warned against doing so beforehand. --DIREKTOR (TALK) 00:15, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Check the article edit history and you´ll see I had one revert divided into 3 edits (so I could explain to this people each one... grrrrr, silly me) and I used the word rv in 2 of them. Oh, and direktor actualy failed to notify me several times now when filling reports against me. Funny he says the oposite, what was he thinking, that I don´t remember... :) (Direktor, my IQ is ridiculously low I am stupid as I can get, however just enough to remember some things, lucky me!). You can see his and mine block logs, and see the trouth. And he allways uses this rethoric of "and he was warned of..." an such... Btw, all my blocks were related with incidents with this user GiantSnowman, and in one (the first) I was also not warned and blocked before even having a chance to defend myself, the second block was for sending direktor somewhere (it was long time ago and I was frontal, silly me, low IQ obviously) and the third was because I reported a user (btw, coincidence, one of direktors best friends User:AlasdairGreen27) that told me direct obscenities at my talk page, and Less decided to block me instead for insisting at the report, while (for some strange reason) some users appeared saying in the report that "kiss your sorry ass" was not an NPA (!). I reported Less for admin abuse and the thread was never closed... so you see... FkpCascais (talk) 01:35, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
Again, you seem to think doing several reverts in succession somehow makes them count as one - this is not so (please see 3RR exemptions). You were obviously in violation of WP:3RR.
  • revert 4 02:49, 2 June 2011 (Rv, image situation is clear. About source, I don´t see where that is said. Rv to Timbouctou version.)
  • revert 3 20:07, 1 June 2011 (Rv vandalism and purpose missplacing edit with intention of deniying resistance rights to Chetnik movement. This was rightfully here.)
  • revert 2 20:03, 1 June 2011 (Undid revision 432008958 by DIREKTOR (talk) Choose one out! You may just adore having them posing together, but one picture is enough. Stop your insulting POV!);
  • revert 1 07:04, 1 June 2011 (Undid revision 431950596 by DIREKTOR (talk) 2 eaqual pictures want stay. Choose one out!)
P.S. I would also appreciate it if you stopped talking about me. While I am apalled at how you're using my friendly posts to insult and badmouth me to various admins, I do not see what significance that has to your sanction. --DIREKTOR (TALK) 02:17, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
Posting a thread at GiantSnowman´s talk page titled "Fkp" with a purpouse of talking on me seems more like you talking about me, not me talking about you. I talked about this situation at FPS talk page, to ask him about this problem, since he was the first involved admin, and afterwords with GiantSnowman at my talkpage, who was kind to notify me. Seems that not only you failed to give me a chance to defend myself when it should have happend, but you further want to keep me quiet? Don´t abuse yourself. Btw, if trouth that those 2 edits of mine are both reverts, then seems that direktor made 5 reverts, check my talk page. FkpCascais (talk) 02:36, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
hah! :) "5 reverts" eh? Seems you've proclaimed one edit to somehow contain 2 reverts, and declared that two seperate additions of completely new text constitute "reverts".. --DIREKTOR (TALK) 03:04, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
  • Guys, I would advise you both to keep the discussion in one place - WP:ANI. Regards, GiantSnowman 09:46, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
    • Nah.. I'm done, Snowman. Frankly I don't see what there is to discuss, the guy breaks 3RR (for the umpteenth time) by edit-warring to remove content against consuensus, and gets sanctioned. Besides, Fkp has banned me from his talkpage (again) and declared he will no longer respond to my posts. --DIREKTOR (TALK) 11:01, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
  • You took it to AN, an admin moved it to ANI, and that's where the discussion should continue - not my talkpage, not your talkpage, not Fkp's talkpage. Regards, GiantSnowman 11:55, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
I'd advise you not to engage Fkp, who doesn't seem to want to engage you anyway, as it only seems to be exacerbating the situation. It's in the hands of the admins, let them deal with it now. Regards, GiantSnowman 12:00, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
My sentiments exactly :) --DIREKTOR (TALK) 12:04, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi there SNOWMAN, VASCO here,

i feel a bit embarrassed by my behaviour, again not following the WP rules...i'll elaborate: on Borja Criado, i have removed twice the tag you inserted that the article was unreferenced (last time i promise!), because in my opinion it is very well referenced, i worked my butt off to improved article, and i felt it was more than adequate for a player of his caliber, yet you say it is not.

Can you my friend (and no sarcasm here, i respect and admire you overall) tell me why do you see this article as orphan? Again, i promise i will not remove the tag again, even though i disagree. Kind regards, from Portugal - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 14:36, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

  • So that's what orphan means! Getting wiki-sillier by the minute my friend! I thought that it meant "having no refs". I present my sincere apologies to you mate, the tag STAYS! - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 14:47, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
  • As Groucho Marx would've put it: explain it to me like i'm a six-year old :)

So if "orphan" means that no other links link to Criado's (in this case) page, what do all the wikilinks we find in his page (CE Europa, La Liga, Valencia CF, forward, etc) mean? Aren't those links (well wikilinks)? Help me friend, i'm at a loss :( - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 23:00, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

The article The Pictish Trail has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable musician. Of the sources here, the first is by the record company, the third is a Wikipedia mirror, and the fourth is completely irrelevant.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Sven Manguard Wha? 18:22, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

Defaultsorts for particular cases

Hi, you certainly noteced the discussion here. Do you eventually know any policy with regard of that? Cause all I found were defaultsorts necessarily starting with surnames, but for particular sportsman names may not be the most apropriate. If you know any helpfull policy let us know. Best regards, FkpCascais (talk) 04:52, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for your input. I would like to open a discussion on the policy talk page so the principle could include the cases for this players known by other name than the surname. I will let you know about the discussion when opened, although I have no hurry. FkpCascais (talk) 17:03, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi, when you added the verifiability tag to the Albania entries at this page, did you mean it to cover all three sources, as Bettia's comments on the talk page seem to suggest that at least two of them refer to a professional league, and if we are going to question whether 'just' referring to the word professional is enough then that would apply to a large number of entries on the list. I believe a consensus has built up over what reasonably should be included, and only a handful of the entries are not sourced. Bear in mind that the description applied to the page 'fully pro league' is not in any way defined, and it would be very difficult to do so and back it up with sources. RE: Keith Eddy

No problem regarding the expansion, sometimes when I see an article I do a quick search to see if there is any easily obtained material and in this case I found some. Managed to make it big enough to go do a DYK and the nomination there has been approved; I included you as a creator as well so you should get a notification after it goes up on the front page. • 2000 COL vs. CAN
  • 2002 CRC vs. USA
  • 2003 BRA vs. MEX
  • 2005 USA vs. PAN

They should just be done and that is all.

Well I am starting the 1991 Final so could you help me with some of the others please?

Hi there SNOWY, VASCO here, hope all's fine by you,

Please have a look at this (see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#Assume_good_faith_-_Really.3F), and kindly direct me with a trusted admin on your "turf" (the last three i contacted, for several vandalism-related issues, replied ZERO, and two of them are active! Yes i know, WP is not all about football and other subjects need assistance too, but it's so frustrating).

Kind regards, good luck with your Masters - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 21:30, 23 June 2011 (UTC)

Happy editing?

Happy editing indeed (please see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Dean1977), i fed the troll in an edit summary (last time i do that man, or you can propose that i get blocked for longer than 24 hours, i'm dead serious), got a different award in my user page than usual...

I have sent a message doing another thing which i should not, since i have ZERO sympathy for vandals, but i have apologized to the "user" in said briefing. I repeat, LAST TIME i feed a troll (at least in that vile manner), please be on my case to see if i fail :)

Attentively - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 23:43, 23 June 2011 (UTC)

I see what you mean, but this one is a VANDAL (maybe he'll change, maybe not, for now he is - coming to my page and telling me to get a life after vandalizing a page!), period. All in all, after nearly FIVE years, my manners still leave a lot to be desired :( --Vasco Amaral (talk) 00:07, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

As the article's creator, I was wondering if it would be okay with you if I were to move the article to "Tommie Hoban"? The two primary sources (Watford and the FAI) spell his name with an -ie, as do the Watford Observer. Sky Sports initially used Tommy when he somewhat unexpectedly made his debut, but appear to have since adopted Tommie. The BBC did likewise, but haven't written about him since the Preston match. Soccerbase and the Press Association currently use Tommy, although I question how much weight should be given to sources that missed Sean Murray's debut, can't get Ireland under-21 international Rob Kiernan's nationality right, and still have Jure Travner and Scott Severin listed as Watford players.

If you think Tommy should stick that's cool. I don't see much value in an out-and-out move request unless he becomes higher profile in future, but thought I'd see if it's uncontroversial. Regards, —WFC17:52, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

Help!

I am not sure if this "user" is also User:Dean1977 although i'm pretty sure he is...

After the run-in in UD Las Palmas and my apology, what did i get? More userpage vandalism and insults. And i should keep my cool with this?!? Have sent another "briefing" to the (supposedly same) chap/idiot.

If a user has created a userspace draft, & you want the page to go live is it only the creator who is suppose to move it to the mainspace or is anyone allowed. If it is the case that anyone can move it to the mainspace is it frowned upon. (DUCKISJAMMMY (talk) 18:32, 29 June 2011 (UTC))

Graham Moseley

Hello, GiantSnowman.

I have taken extensive notes on various footballers' careers through the years. Until recently, these notes were strictly old school - ink on paper. And since these notes were written down for my personal use long before wikipedia, I didn't think to jot down my sources. A shame really, 'cause I sit on a wealth of material. (I do understand the need to disclose sources, though.)

Perhaps you would like to act on some of my unsourced contributions as a sort of "tip" that you can investigate, instead of removing it entirely? Just a friendly and humble thought...

Speaking of Graham Moseley: he did go to Ipswich Town on loan in March 1984 even if he never made a league appearance. I do have a source for that particular fact: Rothman's Football Yearbook 1984-85 p. 429.

Removal of template on Conor Ramsay

The removal of the stats template on the page was perfectly relevant, as I'm the only person that updates Morton stats (except that annoying wee guy that updates the goalscorers and nobody else), I will have to update that stupid wee box as well as the infobox and I can't be fucked if I'm being honest. It's completely unnecessary for a kid that we have no idea if he'll make it at this level, especially after 5 games in two bloody years! How's about you ask, and look at the reality of the situation, before copying and pasting a generic response on my page. Salty1984 (talk) 16:40, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

The article Pere Gratacós has been proposed for deletion because, under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the prod blp tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. And please have a look at this (see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#AEK_Athens_F.C._players): another Greek user who likes to engage like crazy in POV/WEASEL and akin, has told me to NOT edit those players and leave him alone! --Vasco Amaral (talk) 19:36, 8 July 2011 (UTC)

Dear GiantSNowman, in regards to my edit to Otman Bakkal, if you looked at the article, you would see a sentence is misplaced and put twice. You would see: "In November 2010, Bakkal was bitten by Luis Suárez on the shoulder during the 0-0 draw between PSV and Ajax on 20 November 2010." It is listed on both the club career section and internation career section. The sentence does not apply to his international career, and should not be in that category. All my edit did was remove it from where it did not belong, and should be fixed. (Lonestarr022 (talk) 02:56, 10 July 2011 (UTC))

discussion you put on my talk page

How come I got an info page saying I didn't complete the process? I'm sure that I have done given you have made your views heard on said discussion page on the AFD log. Seasider91 (talk) 15:04, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

Jungle Bhoys

Hi GiantSnowman, I have done a search for this group pn google and it appears that there is very little information that would give notability. Their is one article about them being set up 8 in the Glasgow Evening Times and several articles which mention them in passing. I don't think they are more notable than last time when the page was deleted. Adam4267 (talk) 09:58, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi GiantSnowman, as regards the change i made to the Bradford City A.F.C. squad listing showing Darren Stephenson being Jamaican, was based on Darren Stephenson's own Wikipedia page stating that he was born in Jamaica and that there is no evidence there that he has played for any other international representative side, thus making him Jamaican. I fail to see how this is not seen to be constructive. Regards. Prof bed (talk) 13:04, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

So is his Wiki page wrong? To be honest i have found over the last few years many inaccuracies in Premium TV's Football League websites player profiles, mainly nationalities and dates of birth. A good example of an inaccuracy on the very same section is under Scott Brown, who has been given details of the Celtic captain, Scott Brown, and not the 16 year old from Clyde!! If Stephenson was in fact born in England or has played for England Schools or whatever then obviously thats fair enough. Sorry, its because ive kept my own records for years and a big green Jamaican flag stands out amongst the St Georges flags on my spreadsheet that i noticed it and changed it. Regards Prof bed (talk) 13:17, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
OK, so maybe then in the infobox it should be changed to show he was born in England, not Jamaica? and the category section and stub section should also be changed? Regards Prof bed (talk) 13:43, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi again SNOWY (and thanks for the Puyolesque reply), VASCO here,

he lied down a couple of weeks, to see if i would forget, has started again, after i (we) told him through A B C player/manager is known 99,9999999999% of the time as "Quique Flores". I have already contacted the admin/user who blocked him the first time, and also messaged the Colombian user.

Attentively, happy week - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 01:27, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi. Could I please ask you if you could help me to nominate this guy for speedy deletion? It is because he never played in any pro league, and a bunch of editors really need to start to acknolledge about notability. They insist in removing the deletion tag I posted and they make instantly numerous bios of players inmediatelly after signing, never carying if they played in pro league, or not. If he comes to play in league he´ll be restored, until then it would really be great to have the article deleted so the users start to read a bit about our policies here... Best regards (I was on hollidays for a while, so I only returned recently, so that is why I haven´t been around... All OK with you? :) FkpCascais (talk) 17:57, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

You did not explained to me that Brazilian Serie B was fully pro, and I didn´t knew it... FkpCascais (talk) 19:48, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
My mistake. I thought only the A serie was pro... Wow, with B serie being considered pro we risk having millions of bios only about Brazilian players... but ok... FkpCascais (talk) 19:52, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

Non-League club AfDs

Hello Snowman. I'm hoping to persuade you to change your mind in the AfDs on Rustington and the other Sussex League club. Previously clubs playing at that level have been assumed to be notable, as Step 6 is the level at which clubs can enter the FA Cup. In these specific cases the clubs can't because of a lack of floodlights - however, this would mean having articles for some clubs in the division, but not others, and I think it would be better to have a complete set. Plus as I noted in one AfD, we can't rely on the FOOTYN for clubs because it makes 6,000 French clubs eligible for articles (as any club can enter the Coupe de France)! Cheers, Number 57 22:11, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

Notability regarding French clubs

I read your message at WT:FOOTY and agree that Club notability needs a overhaul. My personal suggestion regarding French clubs in the Coupe de France would be since every club is eligible to participate in the competition, the only clubs that should merit notability on Wikipedia are the ones that reach the 7th Round since that is the round professional clubs in France start off or possibly the Round of 64 since that is the round where the French Football Federation site starts archiving results at leaving the early round results to the regional sites. See here. — JSRant Away 16:43, 20 July 2011 (UTC)

Easy question

Am i correct in saying for player notability that the Scottish First division is fully pro and the second and third are not. What about for club season articles are they not considered notable. Warburton1368 (talk) 19:53, 20 July 2011 (UTC)

Do you have any experience on the initial setup of a task force i have started the main page. Outing

About this: As I already remarked at the ANI, it is proverbial how Jabbsworth trigger complaints and punishments for other's actions but actions that he hismself commit. Look at this:[9], just publishing my country. As Jabbswroth expressively claimed that NotBW revealing his country is a harrasment or stalking, then why should I do not assume that he was stalking me?. -- ClaudioSantos¿? 00:39, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

See this. Me complaining under a different account about CS. He has never denied it. Jabbsworth (talk) 01:01, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
GS, he's done it again [10]. This after he was warned not to do it and after I explicitly denied a COI. He's intent on creating a battleground and outing. Jabbsworth (talk) 22:01, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
Hey GiantSnow, I think you should take a more exahustive look on the thing. It is proverbial how this Jabbsworth behaves against any user woh shows any oposition to his pro-euthanasia agenda. He does use always a rude and aggresive language and behaivour to exasperate the users. It has happened over the time with his precious sockpuppets and now again. See the last weeks, after being unblocked: 24 hours after being unblocked he got a block for edit warring, he is going to get a topic ban, he is going to get an interaction ban with me, of course surely I also will get a topic ban as I lost my patience with his PAs. Just take a look at the ANI where I have provided enough links showing his behavbiour: he permanently refers to usres with expression like: "incomprehensible grammar", "tenuous grasp of English", "broken english", "poor reading comprehension", "vandalism", "rubish", "insane point of view", "bloody minded", risible","pathetic", "pointless".He always trigger edit wars in order to get blocks to scare and get other users far away, recently he experessively asked to NotBW to stay away from the pages he built, etc. In few weeks he is angeaged in two wars against two users, that is poroverbial!!!. Also notice that this NotBW was Jabbsworth's wikifriend who was encouraged by Jabbswroth against me, ans certainly NotBW helped him. Así le paga el diablo a quien bien le sirve. -- ClaudioSantos¿? 00:35, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

Wydad Casablanca

Hi, thank you for your message. I want to say that I do have the functionality to transfer the contents of items with their new appointments. I create the appointmentWydad AC Casablanca long time ago but it has caused to be delivered to his old appointment Wydad Casablanca, so it was impossible to transfer the article again so I used the copy paste method while putting the wordredirect in the former appointment.
Regarding the appointment Wydad AC Casablanca now. In reality the real name of the club is Wydad AC, I added Casablanca to properly specify the city. I give you examples of similar : Juventus FC (nown as Juventus Torino), SL Benfica (nown as Benfica Lisbon), AFC Ajax (nown as Ajax Amsterdam), Club Nacional de F. (nown as National Montevideo), CR Flamengo (nown as Flamengo de Rio de Janeiro), CA Peñarol (nown as Peñarol Montevideo), Cruzeiro EC (nown as Cruzeiro Bello Horizonte), SE Palmeiras (nown as Palmeiras Sao Paulo). Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/New articles

Thank you for alerting me with regard to the errors I made in the last couple of days in the posting of new articles under WikiProject Football. Apologies and won't happen again - cheers. Deserter1 09:55, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

I've had to decline teh BLPPROD here, there's a restriction on that tag limiting it to articles created after March 18, 2010. A PROD would be valid, however, or AfD. I get caught by that limit all the time, D'oh! Have a great week. --joe deckertalk to me 18:25, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs

Good evening, Mr Snowman. I just had a quick look back through the page history because I wanted to see what happened to Tomi Saarelma. I also spotted Marian Fuchs was unreferenced despite it being taken off the list by yourself. User:Mirceap90, having returned to editing after a four month break, removed the reference that you added. [11] A stroke of luck there! Stupidity like that is why I tend to watch articles about obscure players that I expand in some way for a few days. You never know who might edit it next. Regards. Footballers

The players use a single nationality at a time. If Sergio Barila played for Equatorial Guinea, he is Equatoguinean and not Spanish.--Kolins (talk) 18:17, 2 August 2011 (UTC)

Suppose you, Spain vs. Equatorial Guinea, and Barila plays and even he scores a goal. Is he really a Spanish man or, at least, a Spanish footballer? I insist he can have dual citizenship, but the nationality that counts is the country which is full international.--Kolins (talk) 19:06, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
The true Spanish players have the option of representing Spain at senior level.--Kolins (talk) 19:08, 2 August 2011 (UTC)

Notification - Help

Hi there SNOWY, VASCO here,

1 - i have left a note on Kolins' page, regarding the discussion seen above. I am 100% on your side, let's see where it leads...

2 - can you help me at André Almeida's page? Why is his new club not displayed in box? After you fix the jinx, can you tell me what the problem was? My eyes hurt of staring at the screen (and no sarcasm here, they really do).

As part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Football a new Football In Scotland task force has been set up as you edit Scottish football articles i would like to invite you to become a member if you wish. Warburton1368 (talk) 15:34, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

Any help along the way would be appreciated. I have noticed you often create articles on teams in past days who have competed for example in the FA Cup. There are loads of these non existent in scottish football who have competed in the Scottish Cup. As i say any help is appreciated. Warburton1368 (talk) 16:43, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

My apologies

I'd like to say sorry for not performing due dillegence (a buzz-word surrounding my club over the last four months!) on the articles created by Alexanderalgrim. I should've noticed that some of them had played one/two minutes in the League Cup and therefore become notable. Can't wait for tomorrow, finally some football. What's the Problem

I just noticed you deleted my content on Bruno Pilas death. I am a member of the Croatian community in Toronto. As such I know people who know him and attended his funeral. How do you source that? Don't be so trigger happy GiantSnowman.

So a lack of a newspaper article will make him undead? Give your head a shake. I have eyewitness accounts. Radio announcement, there are no sources for that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.117.65.72 (talk) 19:02, 6 August 2011 (UTC)

they have said to try WP:DRN but i have replied stating that surely once a final warning has been given a admin can take some action. Who knows. I was hoping to take a few days break from wiki but whilst this is going on dont feel i can. Warburton1368 (talk) 19:57, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
I give up admins just don't care anymore. They are turning it back on me. All i want is to contribute to this project but he is really taking up all my time now. Warburton1368 (talk) 20:10, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
Whats the point there isnt a dispute really its been discussed on the talk page for consensus but he ignores that piping in periodically but whilst making disruptive edits. I just feel like giving up. Warburton1368 (talk) 20:20, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
Dosent matter i have had enough i am being accused of attacking him garnering support and basically everything all you have to do is look at the discussion to see that he is in the wrong but who cares. I dont want to contribute to something when the whole of WP:Footy and the admins in our group aren't interested just to say its notable then not even look at what hes doing anyway im off had enough he can get on with being disruptive. dont want to contribute to an encyclopaedia that lets someone vandalise. Tried to set up the taskforce which he is also accusing of being in cahoots. Anyway i will no longer be editing. Warburton1368 (talk) 20:42, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
Cant see me changing my mind Not unless something is done about it. It seems unlikely at the moment. Warburton1368 (talk) 22:38, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
Maybe but something needs done soon its tearing the whole good work we all do apart at {{WP:Footy]] just dont see how we can continue like this especially if he starts proding articles again and we dont notice which is something that could happen if he ip hops. If we dont sort it then its not worth trying to make things better.Warburton1368 (talk) 22:46, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
He really should be blocked now i am convinced he probably has been blocked before but unless an admin checks no way of knowing for sure. He is trying to get us to react leaving messages on ours and main talkpages. He already succeeded with adam and if i wasnt trying to stay calm and not deal with him anymore then i would do to. As things go we are more likely to get banned for responding to him than he is. The scottish task force has nothing to do with this at all yet he blames it for everything. Warburton1368 (talk) 22:58, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
hes goading me know on my talkpage. Ive told him not to communicate with me again unless at an admin discussion. Unless this is dealt with i will give up just had enough. Warburton1368 (talk) 23:17, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

I think you have misunderstood slightly. I think the player meets WP:GNG which is why I moved him from my userspace to the main space. Seeing articles like Jack McBean and Raheem Sterling made me do this as the article had been in my userspace for a while. Obviously he fails WP:NFOOTY at the moment which is why I think someone would PROD/AFD the article. I will do it if you wish. Adam4267 (talk) 15:22, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

Thanks GiantSnowman. I am not really bothered if it gets deleted as the article is still in my user space and he is likely to make his full debut this season. Anyway thanks and we shall see what people say. Adam4267 (talk) 15:34, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

SFL1

Just a quick question if the league was later removed from fully pro and as per WP:Footy wasnt notable would that effect players who have played in the league now and previously or just ones in the future just asked as just asked another user why they were prodding articles for the first Divison and refereed to discussion ongoing but some had played in the division a few years back so at the time it would be fully pro. Hi there SNOWMAN, VASCO here,

this user continues to go at it! He says the SPANISH FOOTBALLERS category (and related) go, they go, even though you advised him not to, and i also dropped a line in his page! For crying out loud, Benjamín Zarandona played for the Spanish under-21s, and started playing for Equatorial Guinea at the age of 27, 28! And he is not a SPANISH footballer?

Attentively, happy week - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 23:26, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

Should i stay or should i go?

Hi there SNOWMAN, VASCO here,

Sad sad sad! I know i should never have fed the trolls, but does this justify what they are doing in the taunting department? In Míchel Salgado, some "user" continues to remove bits of INTRO, screwing links, etc (see here http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Míchel_Salgado&diff=445022329&oldid=443876991).

In José Carlos Fernández Vázquez, i think it's even worse: some guy, after i reported him two years ago and blocked some IPs/protected some pages for his disruptive editing, is trying to get me to lose it and suffer (an even bigger) block, he's succeeding! He even goes as far as to remove the AEK ATHENS F.C PLAYERS category, his CURRENT club!!

Regarding the latter, i have already asked for administration intervention, have no hopes for a positive reply. Please have a look to some of the messages i sent him explaining what he was adding to the article was WRONG (here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:86.163.52.66 and here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:86.163.205.60). Of course, if he is who i think he is (not an AEK football fan, but a vandal who's after me trying me to lose it - and succeeding!), this means nothing.

Kind regards, keep it up - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 22:46, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

If your uploading an image from Flickr do you upload it to special:upload, commons:special:upload here or commons:special:. Ok thanks, seems like there are 7 different license options for Flickr images, I'll just create a Wikimedia Commons account & go for it, still unsure about replacing older images with newer ones though. (★☆ DUCKISJAMMMY☆★) 23:45, 16 August 2011 (UTC))

What the hey?

After all the discussions we had, a user (is it possible to see if it hails from Colombia as the other anon user who kept reverting us?) has changed the Quique Sánchez Flores page again. I have started a WP:FOOTY discussion and asked admin help. The account also wrote a serious unref'd sentence in the page of Ángel María Villar - president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation: "He is a FC Barcelona fan" - meaning IMO the refs are "instructed" to make Barça win.

He's made edits on the following players: Effosa Eguakon, Jimmy Bulus, Lassana Diallo, Hervé Oussalé and Samad Oppong, all articles that were either made by Zombie (3 of the 4) or pages he worked a lot on. For a "new user", you have to admit that the chances of that are very rare. Also, his whole editing pattern is the same (just adding player names to notable players section of clubs, etc.), makes me more than sure it's him. Worst of all is that he's ruining articles with his pointless of edits. He doesn't bother reading (or ignoring?) the criteria for inclusion for notable players, he just adds players. I've already left him a page on his talkpage but I doubt that it will do much, so please do something about it. Thanks.TonyStarks (talk) 01:34, 20 August 2011 (UTC)

Hai, I still don't think it's Zombie, because of overlapping editting times on German and English wikipedia, but it is a very poor editor so far. Cattivi (talk) 11:38, 20 August 2011 (UTC)

Hi there SNOWY, VASCO here,

i did as you suggested, but it's in appalling condition. Can you have a look please, i'm at a loss... --Vasco Amaral (talk) 16:50, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

I'll back away for a couple of days, keeping Flores' page on my watchlist. My userpage keeps being vandalized by that IDIOT, i have enough mental problems as it is (bipolar) to deal with this. Kind regards - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 00:33, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

OK, now I'm confused. Last year you supported the creation of the list here as an alternative to the large number of articles on non-notable Bohemians players. What's prompted the change of heart? Alzarian16 (talk) 17:38, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

Replied on my talk page - let's keep the discussion together. Alzarian16 (talk) 18:43, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

User:Maxi1992 again ..

Two of his newly created articles, Gilles Ngomo and Koh Traoré have been BLProded. In both cases, he's removed the tag without providing any sources. Both tags are now back in place in both articles but I'm sure it's only a matter of time before he removes them. Please look into it! Thanks. TonyStarks (talk) 03:00, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

Help

Hi there SNOWMAN, VASCO here,

User:Scoelho86 (the guy who may also be the other guy from Colombia that has been on my case, they edited in THE SAME computer) has asked me, from what i understand, what does he need to do to join the WIKIFOOTBALL project. What should i tell him, i'm a bit rusty?

User:Satori Son (also an admin, has been greatly helpful to me in the past) has suggested that, if true they are the same person, he's playing some sort of "good cop, bad cop" mindgame with me, and that i should be very wary when dealing with Coelho.

Many thanks in advance, happy Saturday - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 17:56, 27 August 2011 (UTC)

  • In an unrelated matter, about the Quique Flores stuff: the Colombian anon "user" has taken his game to another level, now resorting to racist insults in my talkpage (he has been given a similar reply, sorry), what on earth is this, he has been reverted in Flores' article by several users and he attacks only me?! Maybe it's because i fed the troll? I only "fed" him when he started vandalizing my userpage!

Again, sorry to bother you, happy week - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 22:50, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

I don't think you meant it, but the edit sum on this edit was a little misleading :-) Mtking (edits) 20:30, 27 August 2011 (UTC)

I was going to prod this article as as far as i could tell has not played fully pro or in my opinion passes GNG. Could you have a quick look for me only reason i am asking is i noticed you edited it even if it was just to add a cat but thought i would double check. Just working through the last of Category:Unknown-importance football in Scotland articles to add importance. there is a fair few in it that i am dubious on. Warburton1368 (talk) 22:33, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

Odd just came back to my computer for the first time today and went to prod it and the creator of the article has already prodded it. Odd since it was created in 2009.Warburton1368 (talk) 15:25, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
Maybe. To many different talk/walls i take it. Warburton1368 (talk) 17:53, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

Error Messages

I keep getting error messages while editing, when I go to save or see preview I get redirected to Wikimedia Foundation Error. General I get it on List articles, but occasionally on season articles. It happened regularly when I was editing the English Transfer list & lead to me stop editing the page but now it starting to happen when editing the Scottish list. I tried clearing cookies & browsing related stuff on my computer but it hasn't helped. Have you experienced something similar as I need a solution as its getting extremely irritating when an edit that should take a one minutes takes ten. (★☆ DUCKISJAMMMY☆★) 17:51, 30 August 2011 (UTC))

Thanks, I put in an appeal at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical) hopefully I get a response & possible solution. (★☆ DUCKISJAMMMY☆★) 18:14, 30 August 2011 (UTC))

Thanks - Other

Thanks for the WP:FOOTY reply SNOWMAN,

I seriously don't understand what Kevin McE has against me, another hostile response, even tough i once again failed in the edit summaries per WP guidelines. His WP:FOOTY edit summary (ironic) especially ticked me off ("as you asked", meaning "you want a suggestion, here's your suggestion"), i have sent him a polite but to-the-point message, i find this quite strange (is he fed up with my summaries? Well i'm fed up with vandalism!)

Attentively - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 22:55, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

Now i think i can "bother" you: this user continues to remove the category SPANISH FOOTBALLERS even though the player possesses dual nationality. Words in summary, as always, ZERO!

Attentively - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 00:01, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

  • Regarding the above message, i repeat (kind of) what i said in summary after i removed it: i gotta cease this behaviour, and improve on my edit summaries pronto, this will avoid problems with Kevin or anyone else. I don't want anyone to get a strange idea about me, which sometimes comes somewhat deservingly.

Regarding your question per this topic, it happened in Juvenal Edjogo-Owono, which leads to the following approach: what players should be allowed to have SPANISH FOOTBALLERS in them? 1 - Those that were born and played (almost or not) their entire careers in Spain but were never capped (although most of them do eventually play int.games for Equatorial Guinea); 2 - the same in 1 but for the guys that did play for the other nation (Equatorial Guinea); 3 - both? - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 12:03, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

Tom Purdie

I am wanting to create an article on Tom Purdie he was the first ever captain of hearts. Other than his London Hearts profile and london hearts match statistics and a scotsman source confirming he was the first captain and a picture. There is very little info i.e no date of birth given this was 1875 he played in. Im not sure if i have enough to create and article. At the moment all i could really state was he is the first captain of hearts and played between 1875 and 1880. Is that going to be enough or do you think im wasting my time. Hi there my friend, VASCO here,

one of the most vandalized (well, more than vandalized, POV'ed) pages i have ever seen here (the Greek "fans" and their "passion") has brought this novelty: this user added this "charmer" (see here, in intro http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Vieirinha&diff=449084296&oldid=448839265), which i immediately undid on the grounds of WP:NPOV - my only bad was that i should have provided a summary.

Ten minutes ago, i received a message calling my actions rude and unacceptable, "interesting". I have already replied apologizing for the lack of summary, but explaining some of the site's guidelines (not very good at those i admit). Did i do the right thing? Methinks so...

Kind regards - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 11:12, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

  • His posterior reply i have not fully come to terms with, as it seems to make me the bad guy, because he was "expressing his admiration for the player, without any insults" (not verbatim, but he said this), and i just removed it. Quite patronizing/sarcastic response in my humble opinion, and he seems to continue to think i have been rude with all the information in hand; i have re-replied.

Hope this does not escalate, i am not very good at dealing with those situations as you very well know :( Attentively - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 20:39, 9 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi there SNOWMAN, VASCO here,

lost for words...this guy is relentless and does not write one summary. As expected, i received no reply about the Equatorial Guinea/Spain footballers situation, you were luckier there.

What do i mean with "relentless"? In Julio Álvarez, a 30-year old guy who has lived in Spain since his early infancy - his parents are BOTH Spaniards - having dual nationality, Kolins took it upon himself and removed summarily the SPANISH FOOTBALLERS category. He also added a VENEZUELA NATIONAL TEAM field in box, even though the player has not appeared yet with the team (he has the possibility, but has not so far). He has 28 caps and 5 goals all Spanish youth levels comprised, a bit Spanish no?

Of course i am through talking to someone who shows total lack of cooperation and regard for my opinion. Your help would be highly appreciated or, if you're full with work, please redirect me/the subject elsewhere. Regards - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 00:33, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Greig Spence

Hi Snowman I think Soccerbase has got his stats wrong. He started with Alloa then moved to Celtic in August 2009 and I think he made his three for them before the move. [12] I don't think he spent the 2009-10 season on loan with them either, Soccerbase are notorious for getting SFL players info wrong. Adam4267 (talk) 19:38, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

I added a few more things about his time at Celtic and changed the Alloa career stats season. I don't know if there is a better online stats site for SFL players because everyone I have looked at has some sort of mistake. Adam4267 (talk) 20:07, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
Football Manager has 19 and 4 as well, maybe thats where he got it from. Adam4267 (talk) 20:17, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
Just been browsing through google hits and came across this [13] he says in an interview he scored his first goal against Queens Park. Soccerbase [14] who have already erroneously said he played for Alloa in 09-10 say he played one SFL2 match against Dumbarton, but they weren't even in SFL2 in 08-09. [15] Oh dear. Adam4267 (talk) 20:36, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
Sorry to butt in... The SFL confirm 19/4 (their end year for his Alloa career is an obvious typo for 2009). This Soccerbase player is also Greig Spence. He made his Alloa debut on 23 Aug 2008 against Peterhead, confirmed by club site. I imagine the BBC's "three games" is just typically lazy research. hope this helps, Struway2 (talk) 20:38, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
Thanks guys glad we've got it correct now. Adam4267 (talk) 20:47, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Although i personally see some notability in the player given his history with the club. I know he dosent meet the criteria. Would an idea be to redirect to the main article with a list entry put in. He managed the club and he made the most appearances of any player for the club. Im asking you first before i put in AFD as i don't know if you can actually do that. Timothy Batabaire

You just have to dig a little deeper and use logic. The key here is to find articles that were written between 2003 and 2005 when the player is said to have played for the Serbian club and the wikipedia entry did not even exist yet. Articles that were written like 5 years later or so and claim that he played for Nis likely got their information from nft or the wikipedia article itself.

To avoid confusion the player joined Celtic in October 2004.[16]

This article [17] from 2003 has him playing for Villa, so has this one [18] from a about year later. This is exactly the time span when he is said to have played in Serbia but he is twice listed as a Villa player.

This article from 2004 confirms that he joined Celtic from Villa and not from Nis. [19]. Same thing here [20]. Still no mention of him joining from Nis or having played for Nis at all. Same thing here. [21] All of his former clubs are mentioned. Except one. Odd...

Also his profile on weltfussball.de has no mention of him playing in Serbia either [22]

And if youre still not convinced: Just google Timothy Batabaire OFK Nis and set the custom range from 2003 to 2004.

This is just another case where a website (nft.com) makes up stuff or simply confuses players and everybody else (playerhistory) just copies it.

Cheers, Thuglife99 (talk) 23:45, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

NFT stats that he spend with OFK Niš the second half of 2003-04 season, and beggining of 2004-2005. If he joined Celtic in October 2004, he may well have played the 3 matches NFT claims he played in 2004-05 season, as season in Serbia starts in August. He may well have played August and September with OFK Niš, before coming to Celtic in October 2004, so by that there is no proof of anything. He may also have easily been on loan in Serbia, something NFT don´t differenciate in their stats. And of course he played in 2003 with Villa, as second part of seasons in Serbia begins in March of next year, meaning he may well have played in 2003 with Villa, and moved in early 2004 to play those 8 matches in the second part of the 2003-04 season with OFK Niš.
Thuglife, you need to find a source claiming he was somwhere else between February and October 2004, otherwise we don´t have anything saying otherwise NFT. FkpCascais (talk) 22:01, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi there o GIANT one, VASCO here,

did my best in searching for some more stuff for the club's history, but both your Google search and my YAHOO.ES yielded nothing relevant, not even when i inserted in the latter "Historia del Antiguoko - Antiguoko's history".

Only thing i could do was find refs for the things that were previously written (some by me). Hope i was able to help, kind regards and happy week - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 00:35, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

This "normal" player's article has been subject to serious vandalism ever since i started editing here, was kind of getting used to it, but this i did not expect...why did you remove practical ALL of the international career section, which was ALL (by me, took me a few hours/days) referenced?

Club career was also drastically cut down, as the situation with the golf magazine (the source(s) contain reference to his Liverpool teammates) may i ask why was that info irrelevant (you also removed SOCCERBASE.COM totally, did not even used it as a ref, but i think that may have been an accident)? Attentively - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 01:45, 30 September 2011 (UTC)

  • I understand your point 100% my friend, but "hear" me again: the REF#11 contained mention to his work in "Golf Punk" with (not Liverpool, my bad) his Sunderland teammates, it's not bad to write it, they are also footballers. In INTERNATIONAL CAREER, his own goal against Russia is also documented, why erase it? I am sorry, but i have embraced WP:BOLD and reinstated those bits, and have also retrieved a brand new ref to source his "punditry".

Of course, you are totally correct in removing the part of him hitting his "unmentionables" against the post against Chelsea, that stuff - albeit comic - has no place being in an encyclopedia. Happy weekend from Portugal - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 14:02, 30 September 2011 (UTC)

Afonso Carson

Dude, read official FIFA.com matchreport and find "Afonso Carson". There is only two games in FIFA record this year: the qualification and no friendly. Instead, there is a Idelfonso da Silva (it can keep "Afonso Carson" and move to Idelfonso da Silva if assume the two person were the same, as Idelfonso da Silva for sure pass). really i feel that some people have not an agenda on me but very little tolerance for me. User:BaboneCar, after i contributed in a discussion on a list he created (please see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/List_of_Fenerbahce_S.K._foreign_players), did not like my explanation on why i chose "DELETE", and proceeded to do the following after i re-replied (here http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/List_of_Fenerbahce_S.K._foreign_players&diff=454282711&oldid=454272693)

Accusation of vandalism

Can you explain to me why you're accusing me of vandalism? How about assuming good faith? El0i (talk) 18:29, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

I removed the link as I felt that website is being wrongly promoted on Wikipedia, I also removed references to that website on other articles such as 23, 24, 25 etc. I did not try to 'hide' anything and I seriously object to your continued accusations of vandalism when none was intended. El0i (talk) 18:47, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
The case isn't that I don't like the website, it is that it violates WP:EL and so I feel I rightly removed the link, if you feel I didn't do so in that particular occasion then explain why in a civil manner, without assuming bad intent when there is none. El0i (talk) 18:57, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
If you feel I made a wrong edit, correct the edit and make me aware of that without resorting to accusing me of being a vandal when it was not the intention. El0i (talk) 19:28, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
Well, I can appreciate that, no worries. El0i (talk) 19:43, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

Hope you approve of my changes in Óscar Montalbán Ramos - as i said in one of the summaries, Rubio is not part of his name, it's a nickname, meaning blond in Spanish, although it is also an habitual surname - hope you like them as well.

Also, no news in the Kolins front, for now...Attentively, keep it up - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 22:25, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

  • More updates/notification on Phil Babb: i reinstated some info in CLUB CAREER, and why? Nothing wrong with those wikilinks, you click on them and it's clear he won the league with SPO, was relegated with SUN and helped the latter to the FA CUP's last four; even though i am 100% sure he was voted best defender with SPO, i did not reinstate it because i found no refs, even though i tried (found per FORADEJOGO.net he scored an UEFA CUP goal with them, and duly inserted it in his page). Cheerio! --Vasco Amaral (talk) 11:09, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

I think you probably should know better but please read your sources carefully before so you do not provide false information. E.g. Vaal Ambassadors and Vaal Pros are not the same club. There is also no mention of him him having played in Zimbabwe either. Thx.

New Page Patrol survey

New page patrol – Survey Invitation

Hello GiantSnowman/2011! The WMF is currently developing new tools to make new page patrolling much easier. Whether you have patrolled many pages or only a few, we now need to know about your experience. The survey takes only 6 minutes, and the information you provide will not be shared with third parties other than to assist us in analyzing the results of the survey; the WMF will not use the information to identify you.

  • If this invitation also appears on other accounts you may have, please complete the survey once only.
  • If this has been sent to you in error and you have never patrolled new pages, please ignore it.

Please click HERE to take part.
Many thanks in advance for providing this essential feedback.

You are receiving this invitation because you have patrolled new pages. For more information, please see NPP Survey

Hi there SNOWMAN, VASCO here,

yes siree, he did it again! Please see this diff (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Fernando_Amorebieta&diff=next&oldid=456058188), whatever you suggest is the way to go, this user has got to be punished! I have already reverted him.

Attentively - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 22:01, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

  • I have already left my input in your report. As i previously feared, he did just that: waited a few weeks until things cooled off, thought we forgot and resumed his stuff. Not a vandal, but that behaviour is very "poor" on his part (for lack of a better word). --Vasco Amaral (talk) 22:13, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

A beer for you!

You're gonna need a couple of these while you handle those nationality issues. I wish you the best. Perhaps you can find a category geek somewhere, and a nationality geek somewhere else, who can help you come up with general agreed-upon guidelines--that, of course, would be best, since then you can hold editors accountable to them. Good luck, my friend. Drmies (talk) 16:40, 4 November 2011 (UTC)

AfD's

Hi there SNOWMAN, VASCO "here",

could you please help me with this matter (please see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#AfD_-_User:MYS77)? I'll also drop a line at the user's page, not that it'll do any good i guess, he's been warned before.

Attentively, keep it up - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 20:58, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

  • Appreciate the comment, what i really was looking for is for these two articles i brought forth to be presented to the AFD "commission" please. I visited the field STRUWAY indicated, can't make any of it... --Vasco Amaral (talk) 21:16, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
Did it here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Football/Article_alerts), if it's been done correctly that's another story...Also warned the user. --Vasco Amaral (talk) 02:13, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
  • I'm not sure i follow you...did you JUST REVERT my inputs or did that and relocated them elsewhere? Those articles have to be deleted, players have only played in Segunda División B, some Valencia CF Mestalla kids not even that i think!

Attentively - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 20:00, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

No i have not, i don't know how to do that. Plus, i can't find the articles i presented anywhere. --Vasco Amaral (talk) 23:01, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

Kind regards, thank you very much in advance - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 00:15, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

Alberto Edjogo-Owono, with this simple article name and the title above, you know what i mean for sure...pityful.

Attentively, have a great week - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 21:23, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

Youssouf Hersi

I know Hersi is Dutch. People from North and North Eastern Africa are not black, that is why I removed him from the category 'of Black African descent'. (Esterhase (talk) 17:28, 22 November 2011 (UTC))

"Legal concern" for Wikipedia Article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kashif_Siddiqi

Snowman,

This message is sent on behalf of Kashif Siddiqi and is regarding his Wikipedia page. It is apparent that many of the statements at current are not up to date and false. We have attempted to contact you repeatedly to change and update the information but you refuse to do so and seem to revert back to changes we make.

Wikipedia hold responsibility on Kashif Siddiqi’s career as many employers, supporters and those interested in Kashif’s progress follow via it. Recently, a lucrative deal concerning Kashif Siddiqi’s future was delayed and almost lost due to the fact that Wikipedia and your article held false information on Kashif Siddiqi. I would think that Wikipedia being a very well known place to gather accurate and precise information that you would be interested in ensuring the information you display is correct.

This has now become a major problem and we have been advised that we have grounds for legal actions. We have prepared an amended version of Kashif Siddiqi’s information and wish to replace the current Wikipedia page as soon as possible. We have provided media articles and links to back up the facts we have included. Our team is more than happy to provide any other identification documents or articles that you might require, and we hope we can get this matter resolved with minimal effort.

Thank you for your co-operation; hope to hear from you soon.

Deletion review for 2011–12 Hannover 96 Season

There is a deletion review here. Kingjeff (talk) 23:41, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

Removing others' comments

It would be appreciated if you didn't revert my edit as vandalism: it should have been obvious that this was a good-faith error, not something in which my comments should themselves be removed. Nyttend (talk) 00:10, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

When you give no other summary than what we'd give for a vandal who does the same thing, and when you easily could have restored the text I accidentally deleted without removing mine, and when I've not heard anything from you, I have reason to say what I did above. Thanks for the comment (no hard feelings); my only question is why you reverted everything instead of simply restoring the text that I accidentally deleted? FYI, I have a new computer that's constantly moving me to different windows, and I've not yet figured out how to stop it — see the mess I got myself into with edit summaries at JPY (disambiguation). Nyttend (talk) 00:20, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Does this (see here http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Almami_Moreira&diff=next&oldid=459828817) and refuses to participate in the discussions, even though the consensus continues to be THE SAME (BOTH categories remain, the lead should mention only the nation represented).

Pityful, i have ceased all interaction with this person, the "undo" button will speak for me (as in Moreira's case). Attentively, have a great week - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 23:21, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Especially after what i have discovered/added in Abel Camará, come on, doesn't this guy deserve BOTH categories? Kolins is really missing the picture here... --Vasco Amaral (talk) 23:54, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Birthplaces

Hello. You're right that WP:OPENPARA says that a person's birthplace doesn't need to go in the lead section. But it also says "Birth and death places should be mentioned in the body if known". So to comply with WP:OPENPARA, when you remove the birthplace from the opening bracket, please would you replace it somewhere appropriate in the body of the article if it isn't already in there. thanks, Struway2 (talk) 09:01, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

When your back i was wondering if you could have a look at the stats table on the article I've had to use soccerway, Soccerbase and the hearts profile to try and get an accurate picture but I'm not sure i got it right. He definitely never made an appearance for heart in the 2010-11 season like soccerbase says that was David Smith and they are all missing his appearance in Europe in the 2009-10 season but Hearts clearly state he did. I would just appreciate another person looking at it. Edinburgh Wanderer 18:39, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

Good idea its a shame but more and more I'm finding Soccerbase to be inaccurate with Scottish stats especially for SFL players and Soccerway only goes back a few years and it makes it a lot harder. Im trying to add these to as many of the Hearts players articles especially the young ones who are actually getting paid and may stay at the club. Edinburgh Wanderer 19:10, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

Read my comments in the talk area before reverting edits. If you continue to undo these edits. I will report you to Wikipedia for vandalising it's pages!

As i said on my talk page: "Leave the 2nd table alone! It is not doing any harm and as i have already explained to you politely. It is relevent to this season's Premier League and Blackburn Rovers history. If you don't stop undoing this table. I will report you to Wikipedia Watchdogs for page vandalism. My edits are not causing problems. Yours are. I have Blackburn Rovers fans right now asking me what is going on with the Steve Kean page on Wikipedia and are asking me why the Premier League table keeps getting removed. I will continue to edit the Premier League and non Premier League table in the ongoing future. Stop accusing me of things when i am continuing to be neutral 'on Wikipedia' regards Steve Kean's page! I am discussing it. It has been discussed and myself and several other people disagree with you!"RoverTheBendInSussex (talk) 16:41, 11 December 2011 (GMT)

I guess at some point you can apply to have him blocked for disruptive editing. -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 16:57, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
It's quite clear that the table should include all matches per consensus but seeing as RoverTheBendInSussex is persistent in displaying league statistics. This could be a compromise rather then having two tables ★☆ DUCKISJAMMMY☆★ 17:29, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
Team Nat From To Total Record League Record
G W D L Win % G W D L Win %
Blackburn Rovers England 13 December 2010 Present 42 11 11 20 26.19 36 7 11 18 19.44

If that will suffice until Kean ceases to be Blackburn's manager, I'm happy to go along with it. It's a pity RoverTheBendInSussex won't enter into discussions. -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 18:06, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

But the league stats are still unsourced in this table? Mattythewhite (talk) 18:23, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
Why are we pandering to his stubborness? Every manager has one table for every game, not two tables, and not a split table. GiantSnowman 20:59, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

ani advice

Your ANI is obviously in good faith; however I'm noting that your replies are starting to get a bit snippy/snarky [26]. You've raised your concerns to the community; at this point is probably best to step give additional editors time to review and analyze the situation. Letting the other editor temporarily have the WP:LASTWORD is an indication of the strength of your logic and a sign of your confidence. Nobody Ent (Gerardw) 13:09, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

Adam Larsen Kwarasey

GiantSnowman, please don't insult my intelligence by claiming my revisions are disruptive. I am 22 years old (born in 1989) and you are 23 years old, let's please be civil about this issue. I'm sure your a nice guy but this is clear common sense.

On the Wikipedia article Norwegian nationality law it clearly states that although Adam Larsen Kwarasey was born in Norway, it does not make him to have Norwegian nationality, it is only because his mother was Norwegian that he had received Norwegian nationality at birth. The same goes as for Ghanaian citizenship because his dad was Ghanaian when he was born, he had a birthright to Ghanaian citizenship just as he did with Norwegian citizenship by his mother.

The category, Category:Naturalized citizens of Ghana is flawed, why in the earth Kolins created this category in the first place is a mistery. Let me tell you GiantSnowman there is really no such thing as Naturalization as a Ghanaian citizen, you can only have Ghanaian nationality if:

  • 1. only one of your parents were Ghanaian nationals when you were born.
  • 2. or if you are married to a Ghanaian national.

You cannot even play for/represent Ghana at any sports even if your Grandparents were born in Ghana, It has to be only if either you were born in Ghana or one of your parents were born in Ghana. There is nothing about needing evidence here, as I can see your not a Ghanaian as I am a Ghanaian myself, please try to do a little research on Google Search for "Ghanaian citizenship & Naturalization law" and then leave me a message to tell me I have no evidence.

  • This information below from the Wikipedia article Norwegian nationality law, clearly tells you that although born in Norway it does NOT automatically give you Norwegian nationality at birth;
Birth in Norway

In general, birth in Norway does not, in itself, confer Norwegian citizenship.

  • This information below from the Wikipedia article Norwegian nationality law, tells you that although born in Norway it does not give you Norwegian nationality and that you can only have Norwegian nationality if one of your parents is Norwegian when born, so for instance this was Kwarasey's mother;
Descent from a Norwegian parent

A child (born in Norway or elsewhere) acquires Norwegian citizenship at birth if:

  • the father is a Norwegian citizen; or
  • the mother is a Norwegian citizen.

From 1 September 2006 the law no longer requires the father to be married to the mother. Norwegian mothers have only been able to automatically pass on Norwegian citizenship since 1 January 1979.

Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year

Administration?

Yes, the January fracas came and went. But it's almost one year; you've gained in experience (of RfAs, to say the least), wider understanding of how the community appreciates a clear understanding of our policies and guidelines, and some minor slug-fests too. In all, it'll be a pleasure to nominate you whenever you believe you are comfortable. Wifione Message 17:12, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

Gregorio Blasco

I'll do it, but you can see the sources in each of the Copa del Rey Final articles (1930 here and 1931 here). Besides, there are thousands of football players articles, and millions of awards given to them, and there are no footnotes with the links for each and every one of the trophies. Just go to the competition article and you'll see the source.

And Gregorio Blasco won the Copa del Rey not only twice, but four times. I just add the awards in the footballers articles when I create the article of the final.

Sorry for the English... --Itxia (talk) 11:33, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

Monegasque - Categories

Hi there SNOWMAN, VASCO here,

i have reverted several categories more (yes, in all cases, i removed the regional category as well, using "undo" or "rollback", but if we reach consensus, it's just a matter of reinstating it - but the SPANISH FOOTBALLERS cat has to stay i believe, no gray area there!). Still many more to revert i believe, nice work!

Happy 2012 to you and yours, keep it up (how's that major going, finished?) - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 16:13, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
