Naming conventions for places in Wales
Hi Ghmyrtle, about a year ago you contributed to a debate I started on naming conventions for places in Wales. At the time, I think we agreed that 'regional' descriptors weren't generally useful when describing Welsh towns. However, User:Welshleprechaun has made an edit on Swansea Cork ferry which I believe opens the issue up again.[1] I'd welcome your input in the discussion at Talk:Swansea Cork ferry so that we can nail this down one way or the other.--Pondle (talk) 22:09, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Is it a Welsh thing ?
Why are you playing a ukelele in a wigwam ? "I'm leaning on a Cheyenne at the corner of the street; In case a certain Colonel Custer goes by". Hee hee. Turned out nice again. Derek R Bullamore (talk) 13:28, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
- Because I had a ukulele, and I had a wigwam. (I also had a toy drum set... perhaps I should have turned into Don Partridge rather than wasting time here?) But not in Wales - although my dad's grandmother apparently (I only recently found out) only spoke Welsh. Ghmyrtle (talk) 22:29, 6 April 2010 (UTC)
- Definitely not the posh bit. But my dad did know this band's manager! Ghmyrtle (talk) 07:26, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

verification placed on page - further removal of information constitutes a violation of wikipedia policy on your part
artist's birthdate is of verifiable public record. Verification of said information has been provided on page, and page history indicates other verification was provided in the past until you removed it for no justifiable reason other than some type of personal reason. you must now explain your desire to prevent further factual information form being registered on this page, unless you have a vested personal or financial interest in this artist and are abusing wikipedia for the purposes of promoting said artist. this has been reported. it is recommended that you cease and desist from further vandalism of this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mjo5650 (talk • contribs) 17:16, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Sonny Boy Williamson
Okay I have no idea where to reply to your message so Ill add my reply here- since you took it upon yourself to invade MY "page"- Ill do the same to you.
I have to say I really dont care what you think about my "contributions" to Wikipedia. I assume youre the type who has nothing better to do than sit around "editing" this thing. I assume you spend like,,,,80 % of your time here. You made a big snotty deal about the info I added to Sonny Boy Williamson but how would you feel if I snubbed your little welsh pages?? As if I care anyway but think about that. You give me the impression that youre just being a know-it-all who takes it upon yourself to stick your nose in. I like the fact that you seem to be into a lot of good music but..... At least I tried to do something here. At least I tried to add a bit of info about a man who most people could give a crap less about....this includes you and the rest of the ,,ugh,,,UK. I honestly dont care what you think or what little snobby "editing" youve done to my stuff here. I truly dont. Thats the problem with some people. They think they know everything. Dont look surprised. What do you expect?

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Mississippi Slim (country singer), and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Mississippi Slim. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.
This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 13:32, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
- Hi there,
- You triggered the bot by doing what is called a cut & paste move, that is, trying to give an existing article a new title by simply taking the last version and pasting it under the new name.
- By doing so, you're separating the article text from the contributor history, which happens to be one of the oh so many ways to inadvertently create a copyvio.
- In a similar situation, the clean way to do this is simply to use the move function to give the article its new title, then replace the redirect on the original with the disambig page. With moving, the article history follows suit.
- If for whatever reason moving is not possible or in doubt, it's better to post at WP:Requested moves to get it done. Fixing cut & paste moves are a bit a PITA :) It's all sorted now, though. Cheers, MLauba (Talk) 14:46, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
- Umm, yes, I know - I started it wrong, so I thought I'd finish it wrong as well rather than confusing myself halfway through. Sorry. :-) Ghmyrtle (talk) 14:59, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

The Mighty Hannibal
Do you know anything about this musician ? I came across his name whilst composing the Earl Gaines article - although I am not sure how. Anyhow, Hannibal has a page at Allmusic - here [2], and I immediately thought of you. Music genre that is; not you reminding me of Hannibal !?! Best wishes,
Derek R Bullamore (talk) 16:12, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
- Vaguely heard of him, but no more. Looks like an excellent candidate for an article - [3] - off you go! By the way, isn't "Jerkin' the Dog" illegal in several states? Welcome back by the way - you haven't missed much! Ghmyrtle (talk) 16:20, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
- Article now written at The Mighty Hannibal. Please take a peek and see if you can improve it - failing that, can you see a DYK hook in it, because I am struggling. It's all that Malta sun that's still in my head ! Cheers,
- Many thanks for your efforts. I wonder if... DYK that the American R&B, soul and funk singer, songwriter and record producer, The Mighty Hannibal, once sang with only two pips, and was later known for "Jerkin' the Dog"? ...might pass the censors ??
- Mmmm .... needless to say our efforts on the hook fell on humourless Yank ears. It now has all the 'hookiness' of a squashed tomato. Potential of Wiki viewers falls from 5,000 to three in one stroke. Actually for an article created on 1 May, it has taken almost three weeks to get to this stage, which hardly inspires me to bother at DYK anymore. I noticed your most recent submission was almost swallowed by pettiness. Is it just me ?
- Totally agree - but I think the point to bear in mind is that we (you/me) are being credited for the quality of the article, rather than the quality of the hook. I understand (I'm sure other people read this, so I definitely do understand) that there are sometimes important WP:BLP issues to be taken into account, but recent DYKs have been no fun at all - long delays for no reason (other than lack of assessors), absence of any sense of humo

Welsh placenames
Not too keen on the new history intro. For one thing, the Anglo-Saxons etc didn't settle England. It became England after they invaded. If the point is to show that Wales became distinct from adjoining parts of the island it should probably say so. However, the Britons were already distinct. It was the parts of Great Britain the Anglo-Saxons settled that became distinct from it. I would prefer to discuss the section on the Talk page, but I have to leave shortly and will be abroad for a couple of days, so may not have access to (or time for) Wiki. I'll leave it as it is 'till then. It won't cause the world to end, after all. I didn't want to make changes and then go silent without letting you know why. I have been idly looking around for information on this lady, and found this at Allmusic - [5]. Rather than just jump in and have a go at a new Wiki piece, I wondered if she is really more your cup of tea ? I tend to get blown off course when R&B and soul get into the mix - actually I get blown off course by a fart, but you catch my drift. Cheers, Derek R Bullamore (talk) 18:39, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
- Maybe, in a few days time.... but more pressing is the need to find refs for some of the articles you're tagging. Some idiot created articles like Howard Armstrong a few years ago without knowing how to put proper refs in - though luckily I know just the person who's now sufficiently aware of what's needed to put them right. Ghmyrtle (talk) 21:01, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

Actually, I am away after today until next Tuesday, (Roses Match watching) so I will not progress anything much until then. Could you kindly keep an eye on L.V. Johnson and Calvin Frazier at DYK - just in case there is a simple problem with either, that you might be able to easily answer ? Mucho grassy ass,

Crowle Advertiser
Hi Ghmyrtle,
Many thanks for your response to my query on User:Derek R Bullamore's discussion page regarding Music article info boxes, an area that seems quite fraught.
Having looked at your interests, particularly that of history, I am hoping you might be able to give me a few pointers regarding an article I would like to create... surrounding an historic newspaper from Crowle, the now extinct Crowle Advertiser. Having looked at the Crowle article I think what I have to offer Wikipedia is so extensive that it would require more than a section in the Crowle article; if added there it would make that article unbalanced. I have researched and logged a very large number of historic Crowle Advertiser newspaper articles gleaned from the British Library Newspaper Archive at Colindale. These articles are over one hundred years old and would therefore be out of copyright. I book-formed the articles and deposited the document in local archives where they are externally referenced on-line as a source.
The question is this: if I created such an article, headed with a intro para about the paper, do you think it Wiki-kosher to add these articles, or more probably selections/excerpts from these articles, being that they would all be cited, albeit to the same source? I would be grateful for any advice you may be able to give, or for any other user you feel may be able to help. Best wishes,

Hi, would you be so kind as to give us support!
Hello, I hope you're doing fine and I sincerely apologize for this intrusion. I've just read your profile and aside from seeing that you're a learned person I assumed that you're Welsh (I wish I have the opportunity and time to visit your country some time soon!), so you understand what are a minorized language and culture and maybe I am not bothering you and you will help us... I'm a member of a Catalan association "Amical de la Viquipèdia" which is trying to get some recognition as a Catalan Chapter but this hasn't been approved up to that moment. We would appreciate your support, visible if you stick this on your first page: Wikimedia CAT. Thanks again, wishing you a great summer, take care! Capsot (talk) 14:14, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
If you have nothing better to do, could you be an angel and look up US R&B/Pop chart placings for this poor fellow. Either let me know, or amended the article accordingly. I seem to be having trouble finding sources to verify the present wording. Many thanks,
Derek R Bullamore (talk) 19:01, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
- Done. I've only just noticed all the tags added to that article - I'll sort out the refs some time as well (but not tonight!) I must have written it based on some sources, from somewhere (probably Allmusic plus a few bits and pieces from elsewhere). Ghmyrtle (talk) 20:37, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Reviewer granted
Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:43, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for File:Calvinboze.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Calvinboze.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 19:07, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

English people
Please see Talk:English people#Entropy 2 as it is a continuation of a conversation about content I thought we had agreed upon, a point (that there was agreement) that is being disputed by another editor. Anyway your thoughts on this would help clarify the point. -- PBS (talk) 01:11, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for bringing my attention to the discussion in relation to merging these two articles. I started the Lovecraft (band) page because it seemed to me that the originator of the H.P. Lovecraft (band) page regarded the successor band as completely separate in terms of musical style and historical significance; hence the successor band was treated almost like a footnote on the H.P. Lovecraft page. In terms of the history of Lovecraft, the successor band, particularly as related to their final album (which bore little relationship to their first, in terms of either personnel or musical style), the sentiments would appear to have some merit. In other words, H.P. Lovecraft was truly distinct as a band; those following that band do not necessarily follow or have an interest in Lovecraft, the successor band. This would seem to be a bit different from the Electric Prunes situation, where a later band used the name and recorded under it, in circumstances where the band name was owned by management. The history of the Electric Prunes seems to incorporate both bands, without apparent objection, perhaps because the band was not strongly associated with particular personalities.
Hope this is helpful. I don't know if the protocol is to simply cut and paste this into the Lovecraft/H.P. Lovecraft discussion page. Please let me know or convey my sentiments directly.
Many thanks for making me aware of this debate.
Dreadarthur (talk) 14:43, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
I have now gone to the discussion pages and agree with you that an appropriate analogy is that of Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship, which have separate pages.
Dreadarthur (talk) 14:52, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
Given the strength of User:Kohoutek1138's sentiments in relation to merger and in the interest of closure, I have not further opposed his arguments, as you will see from the H.P. Lovecraft (band) Talk page. Hopefully some of what I did on the Lovecraft (band) page will be viewed as adding to the larger article.

I don't know if Kahoutek1138's comparison to Eric Burdon and the New Animals is as strong as your own Jefferson Airplane versus Jefferson Starship analogy, though the comparative obscurity of the H.P. Lovecraft and Lovecraft bands would seem to provide stronger support for no separate pages.

Dantalian's Chariot
Hi Ghmyrtle! It's very kind of you to comment on my talk page about the band. I'd be glad if you edit the article to add reliable sources. Thank you. Elitropia (talk) 19:41, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you for your contribution on the article, Ghmyrtle, much appreciated. (And also, I have the rollback rights!) Elitropia (talk) 09:00, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Ghmyrtle! I've attributed the quote "nowadays, the record is rightly regarded as one of the essential works of the era" to Nick James, who wrote the Record Collector article, because I assumed that this was who said it. However, I don't own this particular issue, so if I'm mistaken please do correct this passage of text in the article. Many thanks. --Kohoutek1138 (talk) 12:16, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Errors in Rick Hall article
Hello again.. I am new to editing Wikipedia so bare with me.. There are several blatant errors in my Dad's page that I want to correct... He did not produce Percy Sledge's "When a Man Loves a Woman".... The "Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section" listing has wrong members... and more... I only want to change the errors and add relevant additions...
When you say I need to cite a verifiable source.... I am the source.... I am FAME Studios "Historian" if you will... I have the artist contracts, correspondence, and royalty statements in my office..I am on the Alabama Music Hall of Fame board of directors and have spent the last year going through all fame/Rick Hall material with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame archvists...
I want to add artists he's associated with, HIt songs.. number of hits...etc.. In other words, I only want to make the page better.. I understand now that the summary of the book is not proper for the wiki page.. Please advise how to do these revisions without being deleted??
if you'd like to email I can be reached at <deleted address>
